Looking back to Pakistan's performances in the 2017 Champions Trophy

In a similar fashion to CT17, a cohort of individuals on PP were ready to change the team and management after a slow start to the tournament. But the same individuals with bursting with uncontrollable joy by the end.

Pakistan is a team which builds momentum and as fans let’s be ready to allow the team to find their footing. And if and when they do they are the most exciting team to watch. That is the beauty of supporting Pakistan.

No one is better qualified than the players and team management to understand the team dynamics, game strategy and selection.

Sit back and enjoy the tournament. And most of all let’s not criticise the team for the sake of thinking you know better having played low level street and club cricket.

I rather have a Pakistan team go into the WC that is not quite there as opposed to one which is red hot. It’s best to peek later rather than too early.

Some fans are reacting as if we have lost the WC final after losing to Afg. Yes it was embarrassing but thats cricket for you, u never know what might happened to you, if become complacent, which we did. Lesson for other teams dont take afg lightly, i am sure with this drubbing Pak will take Afg v seriously in the Wc game.

With Asif Ali back, i would urge Captain sarfraz to drop Malik or drop imam, and open the inning or open with asif ali.

The problem is that the format does not really suit Pakistan tbh. Consistently is not Pak’s game. They can’t really afford to lose games at the start. The CT suited them in that regard as they only had to win two games in the group stage and then they were into the knockouts. They won’t have the same luxury this time around.

Player burn out, more at stake for other teams in a world cup. Let us face it. CT did not have remotely this much hype to start with. An inconsequential tournament for the most. This time England is ready covering all the bases. Even SA is somewhat ready this time without their "favorite" tag. Teams like Afghanistan, BD will give everything to eke a win or two. You can't have too many bad days in this format. Good teams will make the semis. This is why i have limited hope with India. India lost to a team like Srilanka yet went on to reach the final because they faced BD in the semi final of CT.

The format is not too dissimilar to 92! Pakistan then only qualified because of rain! England were also the in form team right till the last match. No one gave Pakistan a hope in hells change of winning but that was what they did beating the two best sides. Their win defied logic, experience and/or form.

The point being that we cannot predict the future especially were it involves Pak cricket. Experience has shown time and again that Pak cricket makes experts, especially arm chair experts, look extremely foolish when try to crystal ball the future.

The fact is that we all have no idea, understanding or appreciation of what is about to happen. Let’s not make fool of our selves and simply learn to wait, watch and enjoy.

So your telling me winning 4 games against -- South Africa, (with AB De Villiers) Sri Lanka, (Just beat India) England, and India is not being consistent. That's 4 wins 3 of which came against the world's top sides. Yeah we have a couple more games to play but Pakistan always plays tournament cricket well.

Greece won the euro once as did Leicester city and the epl. Ct17 was good but a lot of things went right and was more due to inspired performance rather than a methodological process which is what guarantees repeated results.

You are as good as your last tournament!

The point is not that CT17 is a prediction of WC19. The point of the original post is quite the opposite. Pakistan as a team tend to start slow and build momentum. Let’s give the team time to perform.

We are mere spectators with no experience of managing, coaching, selecting and planning for an international side. Let’s not let our passion for the team make us believe that we somehow know better. Let us just sit back and enjoy the ride and stop the foolish and constant criticism of the team.

We need to move on from the Champions Trophy. It was a great day but it’s not a reason why we will win future tournaments. The quality of the team should be the underlying factor.

Not true, rain did give us 1 point but because of rain we lost 2 points versus South Africa.

This. Everytime we have done well at a tournament or won it it has been in the back of inspired exceptional performances, whether it was inzy and wasim in 92 , afridi gul etc in 2009, fakhar, amir, hasan ali 2017. In 2019 I am not seeing that many guys who could come up with something really special. Maybe it will be Asif Ali on a personal mission and somehow gets 100 off 50 or so, maybe one of Shaheen or Hasnain have a breakthrough spell and take 4 5 wickets in some game, maybe Amir or Wahab have one final hurrah...its possible but not as likely and again has to be done or 5 6 games not just 2 3.

To be really frank when you hang on to one victory for so long that it starts to affect your performances it is a problem for the progress of that team. This is what happened to Pakistan after the CT17. They had 3 amazing games and won the cup and then started to believe they were the best team in the world, nothing wrong in that but again you need to put effort to sustain that. Pakistan never did. Bowlers like Hasan Ali who were considered better than Bumrah have regressed over the years.

It was a 2 men show Fakhar and Hasan which won us the trophy but unfortunately this time around they are looking completely out of sorts. We just can't make to the semis unless these 2 come to the party.
