New Delhi: Bharatiya Janta Party leader Sakshi Maharaj resorted to a unique yet shocking way of seeking votes. Sakshi warned the voters that they will be cursed by him, if they do not give their vote to him. “’I am a sanyasi (monk) and I am here to beg at your door, if you refuse a sanyasi, I would take away the happiness of your family and will curse you” he said.

Sakshi further threatened the people in the name of ‘mythology’.

Sakshi, who is currently a Member of Parliament from Unnao, has made several controversial statement in the past as well, but this time the ‘controversial and threatening ‘statement was addressed to the voters.

Sakshi misused his position as a monk and warned people of dire consequences if they didn’t vote in his favour.

He said “I am a monk, if you make me win, I will win; otherwise will do bhajan and kirtan in temple; but today I am here to seek your votes. I am a sanyasi (monk) and I am here to beg at your door, if you refuse a sanyasi, I would take away the happiness of your family and will curse you”.

The party is yet to respond to Sakshi’s statement.

Unnao, the land of Hasrat Mohani (who gave inquilab zindabad) and chandrashekhar azad has now been reduced to sending people like sakshi maharaj to the parliament. and he is not even from that place.

Curse of a monk is a very serious matter. These voters should definitely vote for Sakshi Maharaj for a bright and prosperous future :)

BJP is bursting with such nutcases.

90% of nutcases who are religious extremists, issue threats to certain minorities or distribute desh bhakti certificates are BJP candidates.

Even their official twitter account posts absolute garbage targeting minorities but most Indians seem to be in love with such fascism and it sells pretty well in India.

If Imams of masjids can ask muslims to vote for a political party. If Bishop council can ask christians to vote for a political party. If jamaat e islami can issue letters endorsing political parties.

Why cant a Hindu monk ask for votes in the name of religion?

What a joker. Hope Tamil Nadu government bans such nutcases from entering the state.

I think this is the issue.

Lmao, the guy sounds like one of those ancient con-artists who wanted people to follow their 'divine guidelines' or face God's eternal wrath. :))

Humanity fell for these cheap tricks thousands of years ago, but I hope people would have learn their lesson by now.

True.

However, number of Indians who are in love with these nutcases is one third of all Indians, at least as far as last Indian elections are concerned.

Never mind the inability to comprehend what is being discussed. Just blindly defend whatever garbage these nutcases vomit.

Itz actually funny that you are not defending her statement.

What if Theresa May did this ?

Wait we're already cursed...

Jokers say what Jokers say. Its 2019 and are we supposed to take his curses seriously?

Just when i think I cannot possibly read a more stinking news, I see this!

India is going downhill big time.

only the monk is not asking, but blackmailing i.e you are threatening them with dire consquences.

Futhermore equating BJP candidate with Pakistani mullahs, means the india's BJP is basically pakistans TLP. in other words, India's Modi, is Pakistan's Hafiz Saeed. only Hafiz Saeed has no chances of becoming PM. Modi on the other hand.........

What an insult to the word sanyasi.
BJP and it's supporters continue to denigrate their own religion.
Lage raho.

Surely even Indian Muslim's don't believe in the curse of a Hindu monk!!:root Hindu's themselves should be seriously worried about this:bm!

ok, if that is what you want.

As usual those who have no idea of hinduism or are hindu haters (those who hate hindus, and not haters who are hindus, because such a thing doesn't exist) are blowing it out of context. Sage Durwasa was famous for his short temper and was revered out of fear, otherwise he would curse you. His curse brought short term disharmony but long term benefits, and through his curse he was doing the will of the Divine. Islam has this concept too, where divine punishment leads to benefit ultimately, because verily, the Almighty is Most Benevolent.

During colonial times, there was in fact a law around invoking 'divine displeasure' in electoral contests. It was an offence to make "attempts to induce a candidate or voter to believe that he...will be rendered an object of divine displeasure or spiritual censure."

The law in fact still exists in Pakistan (section 171-C of the Pakistan Penal code). Not sure whether it has survived in post-independent India too, but the quote above is certainly a striking example of the idea of 'divine displeasure' in action.
