Nottinghamshire bowler Luke Fletcher suffered a serious-looking head injury in his side's T20 Blast match against Birmingham at Edgbaston.

The 28-year-old was struck on the head by a straight drive from Sam Hain and was bleeding but managed to walk off the pitch with the help of a physio.

Players from both sides were visibly shaken by the incident, with the match held up while the injury was assessed.

The match resumed after a delay of more than 30 minutes.

Notts head coach Peter Moores came out to talk to his players on the pitch and the players then returned to their respective dressing rooms.

Fletcher was taken to hospital to be assessed, with 5 live Sport reporting that he was sitting up and talking.

Really horrible news and a devastating injury. Wishes are with him and his family and hope he gets a speedy recovery.

There's a picture of him on twitter with a thumbs up in hospital, so hopefully will make a speedy recovery.

Good news:

I saw the clip of the injury...it was horrific. Cannot believe how hard the ball was hit. But thankfully it wasn't as bad as first feared and he did walk off with assistance.

The match was on TV and was in the other room then looked at the TV and saw all the nottinghamshire players shocked so I rewinded it and saw the accident, it was horrific but thankfully he's fine now

What is exactly the solution to such incidents?

Did the bowler and get too close and low?

Luke Fletcher that is, saw the video Yday. Surprisingly, the batsmen did the even bother to check if the bowler was OK.

Fletcher has been ruled out for the rest of the season, as per doctor advice.

Also here's a picture he posted of said injury...I'll spoiler it for those that are squeamish.

FLETCHER GIVEN ALL-CLEAR TO RESUME FULL TRAINING AFTER HEAD INJURY

Nottinghamshire seam bowler Luke Fletcher has been given the all-clear by his hospital consultant to resume full training.

He can return to all activities from January 8 – exactly six months after sustaining a serious head injury when hit by a Sam Hain drive in a T20 Blast game at Birmingham Bears.

Fletcher, nicknamed the Bulwell Bomber, is already back bowling at wickets in the nets but will be able to take part in complete sessions, including batting, come the New Year.

The 29-year-old, currently taking a level 3 coaching qualification, will also return to driving, having ridden to the ground on his bike for much of the autumn.

“It’s very pleasing to finally get the nod to start full training again,” said Fletcher. “I’ve felt pretty good throughout once things settled down, but it’s nice to get the official word that everything is OK.

“It’s great to be able to play football again with the rest of the lads, face bowling in the nets and ease back into my programme.

“The consultant says he’s really happy with how things are looking. I have passed all the computer tests I have been doing at the hospital and there has been improvement since the injury back in July.

“I want to thank (physiotherapist) James Pipe, who has been brilliant from day one. I can’t really thank him enough for everything he has done.”

Pipe helped Fletcher from the field when the incident happened before accompanying him to Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

He is delighted with the way the player has bounced back from his injury, which forced him to miss the second half of the season, during which time the Club won the NatWest T20 Blast and promotion to Division One of the County Championship.

Pipe said: “How Fletch has reacted to the situation is a real testament to his professionalism and a mark of the man.

“He’s shown his physical as well as mental strength to come through this as he has done in what has been a difficult journey.

“Throughout it all, he has been upbeat and stayed very positive, coming in with a smile on his face. He’s been the perfect patient.”

We should stop every sports that has a risk of injury - football, hockey, F1, boxing ...... in fact table tennis as well. TT is a fast game and players sweat lot - by chance while smashing a forehand, if the wooden bat slips out and hits the other player at nose or eye ....... it's risky.

We should play every game on simulator and play station .....
