You don’t realize just how crappy most action movies are, until you see something like Mad Max: Fury Road — a movie in which there are no “action scenes” because the action pretty much never stops. And the film’s constant sense of violent motion is in the service of incredible imagery and transcendent moments.

Lots of directors have tried to do what George Miller pulls off so astonishingly in Fury Road — the feeling that everything never stops blowing up, the intensity, and above all the sense that the heightened reality of comics and video games is finally appearing in live-action films.

This movie deserves it's own thread

George Miller made the likes of Zack Snyder, Michael Bay, James Wan and Robert Rodriguez look like clowns.

9/10

Possibly amongst the best action movies ever made, am not fond of the genre given how poor the movies usually are but I've been pleasantly surprised.

Mad Max puts the F in Fast and Furious (that franchise doesn't compare in anyway)

It didn't appeal to me looking at the trailers. How is the story of it?

Bought tickets for tonight's show would have gone earlier had I not been so busy
Been looking forward to it for sometime now.

Knowing your taste buds am pretty sure you'll enjoy it :)) let me know what you think of it

When I saw the trailer I thought it looked extremely weird and you always got the feeling that "too much was going on" but now that it has released I'm hearing amazing things and will check it out soon.

I found it a little fragmented to be honest.

It was a tale of two movies for me. The first half was very strange, some really bad lines, some equally bad acting - but then it suddenly took a twist/turn and improved drastically.

I don't know the history behind Mad Max (whether it's based on a comic book or not) - but some parts of it were just really hard to take serious (guitar playing, hailing V8, chroming the face) - one thing though - atleast it was original.

Is it a 9/10? Definitely not. Probably 6-7/10 for me.

Mad Max is like a 2 hour action scene and it has 0% plot line but I loved it.

8.5/10

Yea am hearing amazing views. Is it all action though and minimal story?

It's non-stop action but I wouldn't say there is no narrative/story because imagery is used very effectively in this movie, you'd have to see it for yourself to judge it. In terms of action/story, the proportionality I'd compare to gravity as that movie was also very effective in making use of imagery. It's the epitome of what an action movie should be and gives action sequences a real purpose; the story is simple but the symbolism enhances it. It was like reading a comic book.

Sick movie.. Crazy non stop action. Expected nothing less.

That guy playing the guitar was hilarious I just wanted someone to shoot him :))) reminded me of @I Belive in the Teesra

That's me lmao

It's a reboot. The original trilogy was made by the same man and it starred a young Mel Gibson as max. The 2nd part of the trilogy called Road warrior contained some exceptional action. The third movie had Tina Turner as the main villain!

Also the director George Miller is responsible for happy feet. :))

And Babe :)) didn't know that before

Cool. I might give it a watch then.

Got crazy reviews so far. 9/10 on IMDB and 98 on RT. Must check it out.

I was going to watch the Avengers, but then saw the reviews for mad max on metacritic which was 89/100 on imbd so thought lets see what the hype is about and wasn't disappointed. Apparently Avengers was average anyway going by what my friends have said, glad I watched Mad Max.

Exactly my thoughts, I was not even planning to go and see the movie after watching the trailers (seemed too out there for me) but I got a pair of free tickets so I went.

Could not get the first half of the movie at all. The second half was better. Like you, I had no idea about the history behind Mad Max but quite a few people in cinema did.

Amazing movie much better than Furious 7,Avengers something different and i think the action was very entertaining considering the meteor, earth shattering super hero crap has become so common.
But its defn hardcore action and must be watched in cinema hall also would had loved if there was some Aussie in it just for the sake of old ones.

Off the charts action from beginning to end. Agree defo one of the best action movies ever made I have to say. A game changer. Five chows out of five aka dayum!

I intend to. It is getting rave reviews.

I watched this movie after the good reviews. Like most, my opinion after seeing the trailer was that it did not appeal to me. Its a crazy roller coaster ride. Definitely lots to appreciate.

:))) good lord, 5 chows. It's a rare feat in itself

I was going to watch avengers but gave mad max a go because of the reviews and wasn't disappointed, didn't catch the trailer. The director miller says he has stories worth 2 scripts so it's possible we may see a reboot of the franchise, more like a power up then a reboot given how unique the movie was :))

I still don't understand the fuss here. How is this a 9/10 film?

Doesn't appeal, thanks. I didn't watch any of the Mel Gibson films.

Its an action movie where the emotions etc are kept to a minimal. Just a few breaks between the action scenes and amazing shots of the desert and cinematography.

Refreshing to see a good old popcorn movie

Yes there were some amazing shots, especially at night.

But - just because you are keeping emotions to a minimum, doesn't excuse you for bad writing. Some of the script was quite cringe worthy and the acting of some - especially the breeders was so laughably bad that at times it seemed like a spoof movie.

This movie is off the hook. Possibly the most insane action movie I have seen in the last decade. Also, no shaky can. You can see everything. Even in the rather terrifying but beautiful desert storm.

It made me chuckle when some folks coming out were in shock. Most of the folks were dazed as if they didn't know what hit them. :)))

Watch it in IMAX. A few extra cash but worth every penny. Genius stuff. I would have loved it if Mel had a cameo but you can't have everything I guess.

Curiously, George Miller also directed Happy Feet. He has a very strong visual sense and wide scope.

I don't even know how to describe it. It was insane. The best action movie I have watched this decade and one of the greatest of all time. Fury Road has redefined what action cinema is.

A masterpiece.

10/10.

It probably was, don't remember the last time I watched a decent action film.

I'd watch the Mel Gibson ones and skip this tbh. Anyone saying it's the best action movie this decade hasn't watched action movies in ten years.

Which Action movies would you say are better then this from the last 10 years?

Forget the last ten years, Kingsman and John Wick are two action movies that came out this year (In the UK) and both are comfortably better than Fury Road.

Personally I found Kingsman more like a children's adaptation of James Bond and John Wick a decent dvd movie, that's about it.

For me in the last few years 'Mad Max - Fury Road' is right up there with 'The Raid - Redemption' as the best action movies. Non compromising, Hard hitting and Non stop action. The best part is the absence of tacky one liners, over the top acting and most importantly CGI.

Yeah forget the last ten years I agree, garbage release after garbage.

Haven't seen Kingsman first time I have heard about it; John Wick was descent in comparison to the average action movie but so typical and ordinary at best.

John wick is kind of a cult classic cuz it is so in your face old school throwback action.

Kingsman came out of nowhere but is easily the best action flick of 2015 so far. Probably one of the best action sequences I have seen out of Hollywood since Kill Bill, and even compares to some action sequences from Asian cinema such as Old Boy.

Will be watching it in that case, Kill Bill is one of my all time favourite movies; it was a masterpiece. Need to see John Wick again but I do recall enjoying it and as I have said it was pretty decent in comparison to the typical trash action releases infested with OTT CGI and little focus on the narrative in any form. Mad Max is probably the most unique action movie I have ever seen and am a big critic of the genre in the modern era but despite that the experience was so satisfying.

This movie is the absolute pinnacle of action movies. The amount of effort into creating some of the action sequences is staggering. The result is beautiful carnage.

Sure it had some clunky dialogue but the plot was absolutely what it needed to be. Picking holes in a Mad Max plot is like criticizing The Godfather for not having more explosions and car crashes.

The essence of the Mad Max narrative was communicated through the intricate use of Action, very few will appreciate that because they are accustomed to meaningless action sequences which do little to help with the development of characters and story-lines beyond the cheap milking via CGI or a customary routine involving one dimensional conflict.

Wait, wait, WAIT.

WHAT?

You're trying to be a film snob...over this boring mess?

The vehicle sequences were great but that was about it. Just because visually it's very pretty doesn't absolve it of the fact that there's not much else in the movie that's worth a damn.

Crappy dialogue, awful performance from the lead actor in every respect, Charlize Theron is only interesting because she's got a badass bionic arm, there is nothing, I repeat NOTHING about the plot that is even remotely subtle so I don't even know where you're getting this idea that only the select elite cinemaphiles will understand the nuances in the movie because everything is spelled out pretty clearly and there's plenty of noticeably crappy CGI in the movie so I don't even get where that jibe at the end came from.

You're trying to climb onto a high horse for this movie when in reality your steed looks more like this

Love it when people spout their self important opinions that are so vastly in the minority but nonetheless try to pass it off as gospel.

98% film critics loved it. Its one of the top rated movies on IMDB of all time.

Its a great action film by overwhelming consensus. Certain people have no perspective on life and only see things through their own limited scope unfortunately.

Rotten tomatoes is a poor metric for judging movie quality. Dark Knight Rises has an 87% on there and that's a genuinely terrible movie. At least Fury Road was just boring instead of insulting the intelligence of every man, woman and child in the audience.

Unless you two are going to tell me that Spy looks like one of the greatest movies of our lifetime?

Its a measure of critical consensus not the overall quality of the film which would require further reading of said reviews. Going to touch on the IMDB rating or the 90% Audience approval?
