Mahendra Singh Dhoni has lost his touch in Twenty20s after a series of poor performances in the 2017 Indian Premier League, feels former captain Sourav Ganguly

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly said on Wednesday that Mahendra Singh Dhoni is a “champion ODI player” but doubted if he is still that good in the shortest format. (IPL full coverage)

“I am not too sure if Dhoni is a good T20 player. He is a champion ODI player but when it comes to Twenty20 cricket, in 10 years, he has got one fifty and that’s not the best record,” Ganguly told India Today.

Ganguly’s scathing comments came on the back Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s ever-falling run in the shortest format of the game. (IPL RESULTS)

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who has been relived of captaincy duties by Rising Pune Supergiant and is playing for the first time as a player in the Indian Premier League, hasn’t performed as per the expectations in the ongoing league.

With scores of 12 not out, 5 and 11 in the three IPL 10 games he has played so far for the Rising Pune Supergiant, the 35-year-old cricketer, regarded as India’s most successful skipper across all formats, has failed to live up to the expectations of his fans.

Sourav Ganguly, however, said Mahendra Singh Dhoni is too good an ODI player to be ignored from India’s Champions Trophy squad.

“I will pick Dhoni for the Champions Trophy but he has to score runs,” Sourav Ganguly said.

Former Australian captain Michael Clarke also feels it is high time for Mahendra Singh Dhoni to explode with the bat.

“Dhoni has to score runs for himself. As a professional, he has to,” Clarke said.

i think time is running out on also odds are against him he needs to perform constantly else this could end

in tears for him .no point playing in t20 to be honest when you consider t20 worldcup is in 2020 i guess

This has been obvious for a while now. While he can still hold his own in ODIs, T20s are not the format for him.

He is past his prime unfortunately. Also I feel he underperformed in the IT20s

T20's should be the breeding ground for youngsters to emerge and gain some international experience. Like Australia are doing currently with their T20 side. Older players like Dhoni should just focus on playing ODI's.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni is not even the 4 th best wkt keeper in India. I would have kicked this sorry guy out 5 years back. Thanks for everything you did sir but now go away.

He is done and dusted , a few knocks here and there do not prove anything. As the ODI and T20 captain, Kohli should be given the freedom to have younger players of his choice like Dhoni did in 2008 when he booted out Ganguly, Dravid, VVS and Kumble.

Why is rps owner behind Dhoni like this. Isn't the guy Indian?

Maybe that guy is the Mostafa Kamal of India

He's the owner's brother and has the independence to talk about players as fans. If Dhoni has a probelm with this, should call it quits from RPS and wait for CSK to be revived.

Pant is knocking the door, Dhoni is struggling and won't be surprised if he retires from national side after Champions trophy. His keeping skills was over hyped by our biased fans and media. It is hard to remember any memorable knock out of Asia. He has done well for someone that wasn't given a proper coaching at his young age. As you age this is where proper techniques give you the extra few years in your career. Sad to see his downfall. He may have one IPL season left. Hope he proves me wrong.

Ipl will keep till he is 60 because he brings stardom to tourney.. what an unbiased series where only performances are valued!
