Malik was being groomed to take over from Misbah. Remember it clearly which is why he was brought back in the past. He ended up failing with the bat and earning his place in the team. PCB were desperate for him to do well, but eventually gave up. Hence eventually captaincy went to Azhar. I'm pretty sure if Malik had performed then he would be captain (if he wanted to be).

Now it's not a long term solution, and Malik doesn't even want it.

I think you are referring to 2007 and at that time he couldn’t command a space in the team on merit. Plus of course between 2007-2009 we hardly played any tests, had the worst chairmen ever and the whole set up was a circus. Fast forward 11 years and he appears the only player to have played so many international tournaments and tours and is a regular in so many teams. I’m sure if he can’t get on with Geoff Lawson and dav whatmore then MA won’t be so different.

Pak had their moments to win the other 2 games that they have lost in this series,,,All it needed was apply your mind to take a break through... As far as I have seen Sarfraz doesnt apply any tactics to earn wickets, but continue to rant his bowlers to bowl at good line and length and thats it, could have easily taken andile's wicket instead of calling out something that earned him 4 match ban

In today's match the bowling changes were good , field placings equally good... Thing to note was creating the undue and unnecessary pressure on the new batsmen which triggered the collapse, otherwise this is 300+ wicket... Exceptional captaincy...

I remember Malik brought two slips in an already good shadabs over with a short mid off to create that pressure and Rassie tried something silly instead of seeing off that last ball of the over... These are skills that Dhoni had which made such an imposing LOI captain, the pouncing mentality when the opposition is little shaky or not sure about the right direction..Not seen Sarfraz done that

I was impressed with Rizwan's keeping today, if he can add batting with that, it'll be injustice to drop him against AUS. He has now 4 games before AUS series and Malik probably will give him chance to show his batting.

I say yes.

I don't think Sarfraz is a particularly good captain tactically and he expresses his anger and disappointment and looks like he gives up way to early.

I'd just keep him for tests as a player.

we overestimate the effect a captain has.

As much as I praised Malik for his captaincy in the last match, today he was very poor in his handling of the the bowlers from over-bowling Shinwari to delaying the off-spin option, so much so the target was already under 100 by the time Imad came on.

The batting was also shocking, don't know what he and Rizwan/Shadab were trying to accomplish

Agreed... And I truly believe he accepted the offer of being captain because of this sole reason that his place in 11 is not there for WC. I don't know what the PCB think tank was thinking when they made him the captain. Good chance to test some new face for few games.
