Manish Pandey - The next batting superstar from India

He isn't what you call a power hitter. He could finish the match because he was set. When he had to come in the death overs, he struggled to middle the ball. On par with Rahane when it comes to playing attacking cricket.

Yes he struggled a bit to smash towards the end. He isn't an absolute power hitter but someone who can shift gears.

In IPL he has done it. Time will tell us how good or bad he in the international level.

But he isn't like Rahane who is uni-dimensional.

He was striking at 110-120 in the middle overs and if not for him, Dhoni's slow knock would have lost us. Rahane is of course more quality as a overall bat but he is not suited for modern ODI at No 4. If he had walked out at No 4 yesterday, I can guarantee we would have lost. He should either open or not play.

Bangladesh top 7 has batsmen who can rotate strike and can accelerate. That's why they blew away Pakistan, India and SA.

However they struggle in T20 cos they can't go bonkers like power hitters do.

Order is like this:

Tuk tuks
Accumulators
Explosive batsmen
Power hitters

He will be an asset if he develops some muscle to pack punch behind his shots.. He's an excellent runner and looks very aware of situations..

Only difference between Rahane and Pandey is that latter can rotate strike better. When it comes to changing gears and playing aggressively, both have similar abilities.

Not sure about that.

In IPL, I can clearly remember Pandey having better ability to slog and smash.

Rahane relies on timing (even for aerial shots) and gaps to get the job done.

I have seen Rahane smash 50 ball 90s in IPL, similar to his innings against SA in Mumbai. He doesn't slog, but he can score quickly.

Yes he can.

And when it comes off, it looks like the most beautiful thing in the world.

But that's the issue with pure timers who don't have the slog component. When they are not exactly at their best, they would struggle to put away anything.

I have seen days where Rahane would gently pop a ball and get caught when an actual HARD PUSH could have saved him.

That's why you see either masterclass innings or rubbish innings from Rahane in ODIs. When he has an off day or when he is not at his 100%, he has nothing to power through it which harms the team.

Rahane should open for Indian in LOIs IMO.

Always been a huge fan of Manish Pandey. Excellent 100 under pressure when his team needed it the most :D Manish Pandey should have debuted back in 2010 itself, but better late than never

Manish Pandey is here to stay and has solved the problem of No.5 in the batting line up

There was a domestic batsman that amit used to post a lot about. Any of the regulars here know who it was. A very correct sort of batsman.

It was Vijay Zol. I called him as the next Sachin Tendulkar too, but he seems to be fading away :(

Another player might be Kedar Jadhav. Jadhav should get a chance too now

I have never quite looked at all these T20 leagues with an analytical approach, for the very purpose of these is just some fun (applicable to sports in general) and that´s it. So whereas I have been seeing Manish Pandey in the IPL since 2009, I never quite analysed his game much.

I was seriously impressed with his maturity and calm approach the other day. One thing I notice is that he can get into a very wide-ranged, open stance, very similar to Marlon Samuels, when he aims to play big shots, which is something that very few can get into. So there might be other weaknesses and obstacles that may come into his way at the international level, that stance can only be a positive if he prolongs his future innings´ at the crease and stays till the slog overs.

If I remember correctly, he was the star batsman in India's u19 team when Kohli was the captain. All the commentators rated him alot higher than any other batsman in the side.

He lives here. I know him personally.

Nice for you to know him...if you meet him some day tell him people still remember the catch he took & 2nd innings century against Mumbai in 2010 Ranji final...(poor umpiring cost us the match :( )

IIRC, Kohli was the star batsman of the side coming in at number 4 and Pandey was the finisher of that side at number 6

What's gone wrong with Pandey?

Sure this is only T20 cricket but he's batting like a complete hack these days. Hitting across the line, not able to time the ball properly, no balance at all at the crease.

Ding. Ding. Ding. Ding. Ding.

India "Finally" Has MS Dhoni's Replacement, Says Shoaib Akhtar

Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar believes India have found a suitable MS Dhoni replacement in Manish Pandey in the limited-overs cricket. "Hindustan ko akhir Dhoni ka replacement mil gya," Akhtar said on his YouTube channel after India's emphatic comeback victory over Australia in three-match ODI series. "India has finally got Dhoni's replacement. They have found a good fit in Manish Pandey. Shreyas Iyer too looks a complete player and these add depth to India's batting," he said.

Dhoni has not played for India since the 2019 World Cup semi-final loss to New Zealand. He recently was not included in the BCCI central contract list for October 2019-September 2020 period.

"These players have played a lot in the IPL, they know how to handle pressure, they do not care about big names and hence, end up playing important innings," Akhtar said about Iyer and Pandey.

Pandey couldn't contribute much with the bat in the three ODIs as the top-order comprising of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan, got the job done for India in the last two matches after the Men in Blue faced a drubbing in Mumbai.

However, he grabbed the limelight for his spectacular fielding skills in the series. In the Rajkot ODI, Pandey took a stunning one-handed catch to dismiss David Warner.

India have now left for New Zealand where both the teams will be contesting in five T20Is, three ODIs and two Test matches.

Shabby will lose his subscribers because there are blind fan base of Dhoni in India and he mentions someone replacing Dhoni.:msd

Definitely better than Babar Azam.

He has chased down 300 by smashing a hundred and taking his team to home in Australia.

For how long will Manish Pandey (World's best 12th man) be kept in the shadow of hacks and TTFs?

People like Rayudu, Shankar, Jadhav, Dube, Iyer etc keep getting more chances than him and get bag ahead of him.

This guy plays proper cricket shots and is always in point whenever he gets an opportunity.

Team management has been very unfair on him.

It simply shows the batting riches of India. He would have been an absolute star in Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

There are so many unlucky batsmen in India. Unfortunately if you are not as good Kohli, Rohit, Rahul Pujara, you may not find a place in the team across formats, even though you are far better than most first-choice batsmen in other Asian teams.

Pandey should've been a regular after that one of the great 100s from a non-kohli led chases. He was simply not consistent, not picked regularly or was not sent at a better batting position. To me , he did not do justice to his ability, he should have been a regular guy for the team. He could not be floater guy that the team wanted, he is a top 4-5 position batsman. He is not the finisher that the team wanted.

A proper world class batsman knock guiding his team to a splendid win.

SL vs IND 2021 | Manish Pandey May no Longer Get a Chance in ODIs: Virender Sehwag

Sehwag feels the middle-order batsman disappointed the most with his poor performances.

New Delhi: Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag feels it could be the end of the road for the experienced Indian batsman Manish Pandey in the ODI team. Pandey got chances in all three ODI matches against Sri Lanka but could not grab his opportunities in the series.

Pandey could only score 74 runs in the three matches at a poor average of 24.67. The right-hander had a chance to reprieve his ODI career but could not deliver the goods. The batsman from Karnataka scored 26 runs from 40 balls in the first ODI against the Island nation but couldn't remain unbeaten till the end.

Subsequently, he was looking good in the second ODI as he scored 37 runs from 31 balls but didn't have the rub of the green on his side as he was run-out in an unfortunate manner. Subsequently, Pandey scored 11 runs in the final ODI and it is going to be difficult for him to once again break into the team.

"Here was an opportunity for Manish Pandey and even Hardik Pandya for that matter. Both had scored some 15-20 runs so they disappointed me more. In this three-match series, if anyone got the most benefit, it was Pandey. He played all three matches and got the chance to bat, and on all the three occasions, the situation wasn't challenging either that he had to accelerate," Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.

"So, I believe Pandey has disappointed me the most. Perhaps he may no longer get a chance in ODIs for India, and even if he does, it is going to be a long time. Since he lost the opportunity to score in these three matches, he's fallen behind in the pecking order. Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan have scored runs so these two will be considered ahead of him in the middle order."

The first T20I between India and Sri Lanka will take place at R. Premadasa Stadium on Sunday.
