French leader Marine Le Pen, in light of protests in Pakistan and Bangladesh against the teacher showing Mohammed Prophet cartoons, urged to impose a Pakistani immigration ban.
"By attacking Islam, clearly without having any understanding of it, President Macron has attacked & hurt the sentiments of millions of Muslims in Europe & across the world. "Imran Khan had tweeted on October 25. Turkish PM Tayyip Erdogan too had launched an attack on President Emmanuel Macron and said, he needed treatment and “mental checks” over his attitude towards Muslims and Islam. Calling it a threat to the country, the leader of the National Rally Party called for a ban on Pakistani immigration. Le Pen wrote on Twitter wrote, "In view of the new ultra-violent protests today in #Bangladesh, and in #Pakistan, I call for an immediate moratorium on immigration from these countries, in the name of national security. MLP. "
Thousands of protestors in Bangladesh even burned effigies of Macron over his remarks on Islamic terror. Protestors in Bangladesh even called for a boycott of French products.

During his eulogy at Samuel Paty’s funeral, Macron said the country could never give up its freedoms or its cartoons and will continue to fight for freedom.

"Macron is one of the few leaders who worship Satan," said Bangladesh’s senior Islami Andolan leader Ataur Rahman. He also urged the Bangladeshi government to expel France's ambassador.
Macron in a response to the attack in Avignon, led by an 18-year-old Chechen refugee, launched a campaign to build a French version of Islam.

Le Pen, in the meantime, thanked India for its support against anti-French sentiments.

France's own Trump. How many Pakistanis live in France?

Pakistani rarely go to France.

Same for UK now. Most Pakistanis to UK come on spouse visas or as doctors. And the criteria is very stringent. I come across many doctors from both Pakistan and India who have their visas turned down for very minute reasons.

As for posters like Liam and Robbie you've been reported. I'd call you out myself but I'd risk a warning

Marine is also very clever. Her father was a massive anti Semite and his party was also partly based on the same but she knew in the modern era anti semitism would not work. I remember her being grilled on this and she was slippery as an eel, so she's shifted to Muslims now. Which sadly may work out in her favor this time around.

Le Pen was in the final round vs Macron in the last election. Macron recieved pretty much the protest vote, that's how he won.

This time could be different. Remember, the French voted twice in referendums against the EU, and the result ignored.

France is gearing up for another revolution!

Lol Pakistanis rarely if ever migrate to France, it's usually just rural working class people who make their way to central Europe but for the most part Pakistanis migrate to English-speaking countries so this doesn't hurt us :)) She really thinks France is a catch :)) I've met Africans born and raised in France that have moved to America and told me how bad things are over there, it's just a third world country with a gucci belt wrapped around it

Pakistanis rarely migrate to France.

Not like this will make any difference in the worst case scenario considering France is part of the EU and Free Movement.

Am I missing something? It says Pakistan and Indian in pretty much the same manner and size. Why are you trying to imply they were hiding the Pakistan part?

I guess the point is we see Indian “& Pakistani” restaurants or just plain Indian restaurants.

I guess the Turkish,Arabic,Mongolian etc essence takes a back seat when it comes to cuisine and commerce.

This always concerns me though, the actions of a few results in discrimination and bias even against hardworking and innocent Indians who just focus on their families and are just making a living.

Don’t think these bigots have any additional regards for the handsome features of Pakistanis over and they treat all folk the same.

Agree with Le Pen here. Pakistanis shouldn't go to France, although I would have thought most Pakistanis migrants are economic migrants not likely to be chopping heads or stabbing people. France will probably need to ban Arabs and African migrants to stop that. Although probably easier just to draw cartoons of Ganesh or Ann Frank instead.

France is possibly one of the worst European countries to migrate to. Marine Le Pen banning Pakistan is like India banning Chinese apps. Impacts should be very low.

India's ban did hit TikTok very hard, by the way.

And a sizeable number of illegal immigrants in France and other EU countries happen to be from Pakistan, Afghanistan and the like. Whatever France is, it is certainly better than south asian countries.

Typical sour grape response from Pakistanis!

Yes please ban us, who would like to work in France? Maybe a three-day vacation is fine but what are the opportunities In France when millions of North Africans living in poverty and ghettos.
Only a Labor class will go to this country to work on farms or etc, I remember how Pakistanis guys especially from Villages from Punjab were selling individual sodas from a 6 pack on street in Barcelona and Paris.
They don't have work opportunities for their own minorities why would they invite someone 7000miles away who doesn't even know their lang ?

While majority of Pakistanis would never seek a visa to France, but if they do ban Pakistani visas we should also send a strong signal by asking Total to wind up business and leave. Also I think Peugeot or Renault were in talks to set up a plant, those should be asked to halted as well.

Nothing hurts these aging and dying European countries than a threat of economic impact.

Good job on picking up Pakistani sour grapes, but does this mean banning Pakistanis is also sour grapes from Le Pen? Maybe Le Pen loves Indians and will invite a few extra over to take the place of Pakistani migrants. Is that what you are hoping?

Personally I'm hoping that France stops inviting anyone and everyone who cannot respect the idea of secularism and insists on wearing religion on their sleeves in public. And this is irrespective of national origin or religion.

If given a chance, every Pakistani would move to France in a heart beat. This all fake thaykedaari of Islam is pure drama.

The majority of the population in our country is in poverty and many would give up an arm for an opportunity to migrate to france or even eastern europe for that matter.

Lots of illegal pakistanis reside in the EU. Pakistani immigration to the EU actually increased in the past few years.

EU countries are perfect for lower class blue collar workers due to all they benefits they give.

All things into account, pakistanis will not be migrating to any EU country for atleast a few years.

and Arab countries are wealthy, thats why she won't try to ban immigration from there. cant offend major business partners.

Case of sour grapes for Internet warriors of Pakistan...

It's v bad for ACTUAL Pakistani people living in France though, will face discrimination because some morons killed people in the name of their religion.

I don't know why Pakistan had to get into this mess tbh. Some French and Chechen and Tunisian guys caused all this to happen and one thing leads to another and the soon-to-be-President is calling for a Pakistani ban.

Because Pakistanis have this belief that they are the custodians of Islam and that the whole Muslim world looks up to them!

Pakistan has zero credibility. Nobody listens to those who begs for loans and grants!

You seem to be repeating this in every other thread. Find some new points to tell us.

In this case, Pakistan jumped in because of Turkey, since Pakistan and also KL are looking more at Erdogan now than Saudi....

Yeah, but there is no Turkish ban being called for. Perhaps it had to do with the on-ground protests in Karachi and other cities.

I salute Le Penn :salute

She is saving Pakistanis from the hell hole that is france

Honestly you have got serious issues, I actually feel sympathetic towards you.

Yes, ban being sought because of that but I doubt anything will happen....

I was talking about official pak position coz of Turkey

Better solution

Stop the aid Pakistan get from France

I wonder how many people here have spent time in France.

Is it superior to Pakistan and India. Yes undoubtedly it is. It isn't however that attractive to sub continent migrants as there isnt an already established migrant base, low wage jobs are taken by africans and the people are quite hostile/aloof ( generally quite nice though, just take time to warm).

Most migrants use France as a stepping stone to UK. In fact the quality of life for a migrant will be better in Germany, Spain, Scandinavia and Holland before France.

This won't effect Pakistanis much, its a symbolic slap at most.

Visitor visas rejected and some others being told to leave....

Apparently Ex ISI head's sister is also in France....

Visitor visas are rejected all the time, and people with valid visas are asked to leave France all the time too. This happens to all non-EU nationals. I really doubt this has anything to do with these particular set of people being Pakistani.

I wouldn't give that source much credibility.

Why ban Pakistani immigrants? There will be many genuine ones losing out. The persecuted minorities will also be affected.

Would it really be a loss?
[MENTION=2099]Cricket[/MENTION]joshila is knowledgeable on how supposed aid money is used as cover for intelligence activity.

You really need to get your information from better sources. The one you referenced wrote an entire article based on a fake tweet.

It's just a rhetoric. These western countries need to ban asylum seekers from all countries in the short term. The assimilation is a pipe dream. The prospects are low for the first generation. They typically live in ghettos surrounded by poisonous minds and get brain washed way too easily. Some will do anything for 50 bucks.

Instead immigration should be allowed only for high skilled or somebody that can get a good paying job. Most of what Macron said was out of ego which is biting him back. But I agree with one thing he said. Disband all the private muslim only low income schools in these ghettos that have their own agenda. Give a chance atleast for the 2nd generation to learn the way of life of the country they are living in. Regulate the religious schools and monitor funding.

Good for Pakistanis, they will end up elsewhere away from this extremist racist nation.

France might allow more Indians in , who will be attacked because the far right hate all brown/black people.

So this is good thing if you go by the Pakistani posters on this thread. Reminds me of the Blessing in disguise cricket threads after every loss.

On a serious note, why is he after Pakistanis? Iirc the perpetrators weren’t even Pakistanis.

Because for reasons best known to them they threw a tantrum that could be heard as far away as Pluto.

Hope they're happy now.

Because she's triggered by Imran Khan's tweets I assume.

Indians will fill the spaces as they stand with France until they are attacked for being brown.

Wonder who's paid media cells from a neighboring country made that fake Twitter account...

Not sure there is much demand for Indian labour in France. They have enough brown or black people to provide diversity and blue collar labour.

There have been many pro-Khalistan rallies in India as well in recent years, specially since BJP came to power.

They have been there before too, the movement was pretty much alive till 1995 in a violent way, its not violent anymore, but ones in those rallies don't call it "Panjab".. its the British ones that specifically do.

This term fascist is used by country leader and posters here of Pakistan so regularly
suppression of journalism, women rights with forced marriages, minority rights, freedom of speech are all fascist behaviour.
Now talking of another country which is fighting to uphold its freedom of speech rights as fascist. Nice joke

Dhaka, Bangladesh – Addressing a sea of crowd from a pick-up van, Junaid Babunagari on Monday noon delivered a stern message: “We want the Bangladesh government to shut down the French embassy in Dhaka within 24 hours.”

Babunagari, secretary-general of Hifazat-e-Islam – one of the biggest Muslim political groups in the country – further said: “[French President] Emmanuel Macron should beg for forgiveness.”

The crowd of some 50,000 people, almost wholly comprised of young people decked in white kurta [tunic] and topi [cap] voiced their appreciation in unison. “Allahu Akbar [God is great],” they shouted, “We will not tolerate disrespect of the Prophet Muhammad.”

Protests are being held in several Muslim-majority countries, including Pakistan, Turkey and Indonesia, over Macron’s comment that Islam is “in crisis” and his defence of the offensive caricature of the Prophet.

Tensions further escalated in the aftermath of the killing of Samuel Paty, a middle school teacher in France who showed his pupils drawings of the Prophet during a discussion on the freedom of speech.

Such disrespect of our prophet bleeds the hearts of millions of religious and pious people of Bangladesh.

MAULANA ZAFARULLAH KHAN, POLITICIAN

But Bangladesh arguably has witnessed the largest and most prolonged protest over the cartoon row that has angered the world’s 1.8 billion Muslims.

Monday’s protest, which originated from Bangladesh’s biggest mosque in the capital Dhaka, was yet the largest demonstration staged in the country against the French president’s stance on the right to publish cartoons of the Prophet.

In the past one week, the Muslim majority nation of 160 million has witnessed at least three large-scale anti-France demonstrations in Dhaka and in the port city of Chattagram.

‘We love our Prophet’
Last Friday, several protest rallies were organised from different mosques after Jumma prayers across the country calling for “boycotting goods from France” and for severing “diplomatic ties”.

“We are on the street as we love our Prophet,” Abu Abdullah, a 19-year-old student from Markazul Aziz Madrasa (traditional Islamic religious school) of Dhaka who took part in Monday’s protest told Al Jazeera.

“Islam is a religion of peace and our Prophet Muhammad is the best human being to ever exist. I can’t remain silent if someone said bad things about our beloved Prophet,” he said.

We believe in freedom of expression of every individual, hence we allow all sort of protests to take place in our country.

AK ABDUL MOMEN, THE MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS

Belal Hossain, a 26-year-old khadem (caretaker) of a mosque in Narshingdi who came to Dhaka to protest, told Al Jazeera that images and caricature of Prophet Muhammad are not permitted in Islam.

“By sketching a belittling portrait of Muhammad, France hurt us. We want no ties with France any more,” Hossain said.

Mufti Fakhrul Islam, publication secretary of Hifazat-e-Islam who was at the forefront in organising Monday’s protest, said people love the Prophet more than their lives.

“We will not tolerate the slightest disrespect of our beloved Muhammad,” Islam told Al Jazeera.

Hifazat, based in Chattagram, runs more than 90,000 madrassas (Islamic religious schools) across the country.

Maulana Zafarullah Khan, leader of Bangladesh Islamic party Khelafat Andolon, which joined forces with Hifazat, said: “By disrespecting Muhammad, France has disrespected the whole of Muslim ummah [community].”

“Such disrespect of our Prophet bleeds the hearts of millions of religious and pious people of Bangladesh,” Khan said.

Silence of Bangladesh government
So far, the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has not commented on the cartoon controversy and maintained studied silence amid calls to sever diplomatic ties with France – the country’s fourth-largest trading partner.

The Bangladesh government, however, has allowed the protests.

“We believe in freedom of expression of every individual, hence we allow all sort of protests to take place in our country,” AK Abdul Momen, minister of foreign affairs, told Al Jazeera.

Momen said he understands the people’s anger on the issue. “It’s not just about France; if anyone from any country disrespects Prophet Muhammad, religious people in Bangladesh will stage protest against that, and we know about it.”

He said there is no scope of cutting diplomatic ties with France. “Bangladesh and France enjoy a good and warm bilateral relationship,” he said.

Protesters say they will not tolerate insult to their Prophet [Mahmud Hossain Opu/Al Jazeera]
The growing Islamisation of the Bangladeshi society is a big contributory factor in this regard. It has become easy to use these kinds of issue as a tool for mobilisation.

ALI RIAZ, PROFESSOR AT ILLINOIS STATE UNIVERSITY

France is one of the largest destinations of Bangladesh’s readymade garments (RMG) products, which account for the lion’s share of the country’s export basket.

Last year, Bangladesh exported goods worth $1.7bn to France, making the European nation its fourth-biggest export market after the United States, Germany and the United Kingdom. Several French companies have medium to large scale investments in Bangladesh, from energy to construction materials, pharmaceuticals and telecommunications.

Some French politicians have already called for action against Bangladesh in the wake of the mass protests.

“Bangladesh economy is largely based on the textile industry. Western distributors (Carrefour, H&M, etc) must stop purchasing clothing. Let’s stop trading with those who hate us and favor localism,” Virginie Joron, a French politician who is a member of the European Parliament, tweeted.

Marine Le Pen, a French politician who is known for her anti-immigration stance, urged the French government to impose a ban on immigrants from Bangladesh.

Adnan Habib, a Dhaka-based banker, told Al Jazeera that Bangladesh will lose more if the relationship with France is tainted. “I respect people’s emotion about Prophet Muhammad. But to be frank, the idea of severing ties with France on this is unrealistic under the present global context.”

Prolonged protests
Asif Shibgat Bhuiyan, a popular blogger who writes on Islam, said the strong emotion of the Bangladeshi Muslims and religiopolitical opportunism sensed by the religious leaders and influencers are playing a strong role behind the protests.

“Bangladeshi Muslims are very emotional and sensitive about religious symbols. Among the symbols inviolable to them, the honour of the Prophet Muhammad is at the forefront,” he said.

Bhuiyan said Bangladesh has precedence of staging large-scale public demonstrations on the issue of violating the honour of the Prophet.

A cartoon by the largest vernacular daily – Prothom Alo – triggered protests in 2007 after it was perceived to defame the name of the Prophet.

“A large number of Muslims took to the street and the editor of the daily had to visit the top Muslim leader in the country to clear the misunderstanding,” said Bhuiyan.

He said the religious leaders of the country are aware that they cannot have a demonstration on every issue pertaining to Muslims. There has hardly been a public protest against the persecution of Uighurs in China.

“Hence they require an issue that is sustainable. It needs to be well participated and short in temporal scope – so that there is a perception of success while being convenient enough for the government to let it be,” Bhuiyan said.

Ali Riaz, who has researched on the Islamist parties in Bangladesh, said several factors have prompted these demonstrations, largely spearheaded by the Islamist groups in Bangladesh.

“The growing Islamisation of the Bangladeshi society is a major contributory factor in this regard. It has become easy to use these kinds of issue as a tool for mobilisation,” said Riaz, a distinguished professor of politics and government of Illinois State University, US.

He argued that the populist appeal of the issue and the anti-Western sentiments have brought most of the common people into the mix.

Besides, he said, some political forces are taking to the street to demonstrate their existence in the current political vacuum on a safe issue without annoying the government.

Riaz believes the demonstrations are helping the Bangladesh government, which he says, has turned into an authoritarian regime.

“First, by allowing these demonstrations to take place the government is boosting its claim that opposition’s right to assembly has not been curtailed, thus it contributes to its assertion that the country is a functioning democracy.”

Secondly, he said, these portray Bangladeshi politics to the international community “as a choice between radical Islamism and secularism, and present itself as a better alternative” despite its “[government] abysmal record of human rights violations and curtailment of fundamental freedom”.
