BAP candidate injured in blast targeting his convoy in Mastung

At least 12 people, including Nawabzada Siraj Raisani, have been injured in a blast in Balochistan's Mastung district on Friday, DawnNewsTV reported.

Levies sources said the blast targeted a convoy led by Raisani, a Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) candidate from PB-35 (Mastung).

Nawabzada Siraj is the younger brother of former Balochistan chief minister Nawab Aslam Raisani.

The injured have been shifted to District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital Mastung for medical treatment.

This is a developing story that is being updated as the situation evolves. Initial reports in the media can sometimes be inaccurate. We will strive to ensure timeliness and accuracy by relying on credible sources such as concerned, qualified authorities and our staff reporters.

At least 20 killed, 35 injured in attack on BAP leader in Mastung

At least 20 people were killed and 35 injured in an apparent suicide attack on the convoy of Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) leader Siraj Raisani injured in Balochistan’s Mastung district on Friday.

According to initial reports, Siraj’s convoy came under attack shortly after he attended a corner meeting for provincial assembly seat PB-35. Siraj is the brother of former Balochistan chief minister Mohmmad Aslam Khan Raisani.

This is the third terrorist attack on a candidate ahead of general polls. Earlier in the day, four people were killed and 39 injured in an attack on the convoy of former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister and Jamiat-Ulema-Islam (F) leader Akram Khan Durrani in Bannu.
The former minister was leaving a corner meeting when an improvised explosive device (IED) planted in a motorcycle some 50 metres away from the jalsa ground went off in the jurisdiction of Havaid police station, RPO Karim Khan said.

The attack comes days after Awami National Party (ANP) leader Haroon Bilour was assassinated in a suicide attack at a corner meeting that killed 19 others and injured over 60 people on June 10.

The attacker detonated his explosive belt close to the ANP leader’s vehicle as he approached a rally organised to promote his election in the Yakatoot area of the provincial capital late Tuesday night. Rescue teams and security officials shifted the deceased and injured to the Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) soon after the attack.

RIP all inoncents :(

First attack on PTI next ANP and than BAP? (2 of them supposed to be establishment parties)

Someone really want to make sure elections are delayed and the timing well it's not the first time NS is in trouble and all these attacks started. I use to laugh at these theories a few years ago but it happened so many times recently i am finding it hard to ignore

BAP candidate Siraj Raisani did not survive the attack, very sad news. May all the victims rest in peace.

70 dead but unfortunately it's not on the priority list for media who are giving second by second coverage to a convicted person.

So the so-called security improvement got a reality check. You can’t have an improvement in security without addressing the fundamental flaws in our system.

70 dead, 120 injured in Mastung blast targeting Balochistan Awami Party corner meeting

At least 70 people, including politician Nawabzada Siraj Raisani, were killed and 120 injured in a deadly blast in Balochistan's Mastung district Friday afternoon, provincial Health Minister Faiz Kakar confirmed to DawnNewsTV.

Levies sources said the blast targeted a corner meeting organised by Siraj, a Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) candidate for PB-35 (Mastung). "Mir Siraj Raisani succumbed to his wounds while he was being shifted to Quetta," Agha Umar Bungalzai, provincial home minister, told AFP

Balochistan's Civil Defence Director Aslam Tareen as well as Bungalzai both said the blast was a suicide attack.

Tareen said 8 to 10 kilograms of explosives and ball bearings were used in the attack.

Kakar said that the deceased were taken to Civil Hospital Quetta, Bolan Medical Complex and Combined Military Hospital Quetta. Over two dozen bodies, however, were kept in Mastung, he added.

Civil Hospital Spokesperson Waseem Baig said the hospital received 53 bodies and 73 wounded. At least 20 of those injured are in critical condition.

Nawabzada Siraj Raisani

The younger brother of former Balochistan chief minister Nawab Aslam Raisani, Nawabzada Siraj had been chief of the Balochistan Muttahida Mahaz (BMM), formed by Nawab Ghous Bakhsh Raisani in the 1970s, till June this year.

He had recently merged BMM with the newly-formed BAP.

He was contesting PB-35 (Mastung) for the 2018 elections against his own brother Nawab Aslam Raisani, who is contesting as an independent candidate.

Siraj's teenage son, Hakmal Raisani, had been killed in a grenade attack on his vehicle in the same district in 2011. Siraj, who had been present inside the vehicle at the time of the attack, had escaped unhurt.

Shrugging off the threat to his own life, he had said at the time that he would continue to "raise the slogan of Pakistan".

Why isn't the pathetic media covering this?

There's barely any tickers about it, let alone live coverage.

OMG this is one of the worst tragedies, over 111 dead now and hundreds injured.

And Raisani who was key target was a very patriotic leader and looks like specifically targeted by external forces not happy with people like him.

RIP all the innocent victims, LANAT on the attackers and hope they taste their own medicine really soon.

90 killed, more than 180 injured in two blasts targeting Pakistan election rallies

PESHAWAR/KARACHI: At least 90 people, including a top nationalist leader, were killed and more than 180 others injured on Friday as powerful bomb blasts targeted two separate election rallies in Pakistan, the deadliest in a string of attacks on candidates ahead of the July 25 polls.

https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com...tan-election-rallies/articleshow/64980505.cms

That death toll is steep even by sub-continental standards. RIP to all, and I'm surprised this isn't already being discussed here!

Majority of pro-establishment people are targeted like this in Balochistan. Foreign agencies and their goons are always on the offensive, they kill our people and harm us in every possible way, all the while blaming Pakistan as sponsors of terror, mother of all problems etc through their influence on global media.

These type of attacks in Pakistan will only stop when foreign powers in our region (specially India) will realize that they will have to face consequences for their actions. This dose of realization has to be given by our security establishment. Border fencing and other defensive security measures can only do so much.

This does not look like a suicide attack which we were told earlier. A single suicide bomb can't bring so much loss of life.

Proxy war has again resurfaced. They have found new ways and tools to destabilize Pakistan. The only reason he was targeted seems to be his loyalty towards Pakistan.

Security agencies need to go back to drawing board. It seems that after TTP and Baloch separatists were weakened by security agencies the enemies have found a new tool in ISIS.

Is there anything concrete behind ISIS' claims? They have claimed responsibility in situations before also where no one else did.

So since APS this is the deadliest attack in Pakistan. Media and leadership of N league should turn to this accident now.

This is very bizarre claim from ISIS who champion themselves as torchbearers of Jihad. But this attack on a loyal Pakistani sardar in a far flung area of Mastung is devoid of any ideological base, not that these terrorist group have much of an ideology but they used to justify their actions on some pretexts. In the past TTP or Baloch separatists used to provide their reasons for such acts however flawed, on religious or nationalistic grounds.

At this point, it should also be remembered that TTP also used to attack public places like mosques, bazars etc. And according to media reports after demise of TTP infrastructure most of these people have joined themselves with ISIS.

It seems that these ISIS groups operating from Afghan border areas are simply a vast mafia who are ready to do dirty work for the right price.

My biggest concern is ISIS HQ in Afghanistan is very close to Parachinar a shia majority area of Pak.

Horrific. Thought we'd turned a corner security-wise but this tragedy is an awful throwback to the bad times.

The high death toll could be a result of weaker medical facilities in Balochistan. Hopefully the masterminds, planners and financiers will be brought to book.

As i posted in previous post, ISIS is only a kill machine. Most of the other militants operating in the region have some ideological base even if flawed. Separatists in Baluchistan wanted secession from Pakistan, Sectarian violence although a kind of proxy is based upon religious sectarianism, even TTP used to justify their actions by calling Pakistani military puppets of US and taking revenge of drone strikes. Taliban in Afghanistan convey to the world that they are fighting against usurpers and foreigners.

But this ISIS breed is completely different, they don't even bother about giving any justification. Especially, ISIS groups operating in Afghanistan, they are fighting with Taliban too.

Who cares what is TTP or ISIS? Why is our intelligence sleeping and not doing its job?!

We need to bomb it.

Yea we should cross the border and whatever is necessary to protect our land and citizen.

This is actually true saw many reports about weaker medical facilities in Baluchistan resulting in these many casualties. If someone remember there was another attack in a shrine in Baluchistan where we had many many casualties because the access wasn't easy and there were hardly any good hospital nearby

200 plus are also injured. There may well be some unfortunate deaths because of lack of medical facilities but numbers of injured tells us that this was indeed a very large bombing.

No there was another one in Balochistan couple of years ago

Wow this is so sad. It's so sad to see this happening again :-(

Rest in peace to the souls and may they all go to Jannah

Wasn't that in Shehwan Sharif in Sindh?

Shrine of Shah Noorani in Khuzdar Balochistan back in 2016 and IS claimed it. Edhi ambulances and army teams had to come from Karachi and many were shifted to Karachi to be treated. It took several hours just to arrive there and there hardly any coverage because of no signals there and access was limited too.

HUB – At least 62 people were killed and 102 were injured injured after a bomb went off in the crowded Shah Noorani Shrine in Hub town of Balochistan’s Lasbela District on Saturday evening.

Prediction.

If Nawas drama won't work then IS will be used to create instability in Pakistan. And, reason to invade.

Out of all the countries, why attack Pakistan, particularly during elections?

Who cares what is TTP or ISIS? Why is our intelligence sleeping and not doing its job?!

Maybe they are not doing well enough. But the situation is not easy, many times planners have also been caught before executing their plan.

Pakistan-Afghan border areas have a difficult terrain and it is a very porous border.

So over 150 people have died and media isnt bothered about this.

If balochistan ever gains independance todays day might end up being iconic

RIP. Its just disturbing. Nawaz Sharif party workers are doing nothing but creating instability in Pakistan and that is allowing terrorists to create attacks.

QUETTA: The Balochistan government has announced two-day mourning in the province after a suicide blast at a political rally in Mastung martyred 128 people and injured more than 150, in one of the deadliest attacks in the country´s history.

Among the martyred was Nawabzada Siraj Raisani, who was running for a provincial seat with the newly-formed local Balochistan Awami Party (BAP).

Authorities said the suicide bomber detonated in the middle of a compound where the political meeting was taking place, in Mastung's Darengarh area. The blast was the latest in a string of attacks that have spurred fears of violence ahead of the general election on July 25, and came hours after four people were killed and 39 injured in a bomb blast targetting a JUI-F convoy in Bannu on Friday.

The national flag will be flown at half-mast at all public buildings in the province. The BAP has also cancelled its election rally in Quetta today in memory of the deceased.

The Pakistan Bar Council has announced two-day mourning and is boycotting all court proceedings today in condemnation of the tragedy.

Funeral prayers for Siraj Raisani will be offered at 3pm in the provincial capital today.

Levies personnel said on Saturday that evidence is being collected from the site of the attack, which has been secured by the forensics team. A case would be registered against the attack once all necessary proceedings have been conducted, officials added.

Mastung suicide blast martyrs 128, including BAP candidate Siraj Raisani

The Mastung attack was the most lethal since Taliban militants assaulted Peshawar’s Army Public School in 2014, killing over 150 people, mostly children, and one of the deadliest in the country´s long struggle with terrorism.

On Tuesday, a bomb targeted a rally by the Awami National Party (ANP) in Peshawar, martyring local ANP leader Haroon Bilour along with 21 others. Thousands flocked to his funeral the next day.

The military has warned of security threats in the run-up to the election on July 25, and said it will deploy more than 370,000 soldiers on polling day.

The fresh spate of violence was strongly condemned by political leaders and Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa, who expressed sorrow over the loss of innocent lives and vowed that attempts of inimical forces to derail important democratic activity shall not succeed.

US, EU, Britain condemn Pakistan blasts

The United States condemned the fresh spate of terrorism in Pakistan, dubbing the attacks as “cowardly attempts to deprive the Pakistani people of their democratic rights.”

“The United States strongly condemns this week’s attacks on political candidates and their supporters in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces of Pakistan. These attacks are cowardly attempts to deprive the Pakistani people of their democratic rights,” US Department of State spokesperson Heather Nauert said in a statement.

“We grieve with those mourning the victims, and hope for a rapid recovery of those injured. We will continue to stand with the people of Pakistan and the broader South Asia region in their fight against terrorism,” the statement added.

The European Union condemned the deadly blast, and urged for swift justice for the victims.

The British High Commission in Pakistan also issued a condemnation against the terrorist attack. "A terrible day. We join our Pakistani friends in our thoughts for the victims of these cowardly attacks and in condemning their perpetrators. No one can be allowed to thwart the country’s democratic process. #Mastung #Bannu," High Commissioner Thomas Drew tweeted.

Bro, Pakistan ain't Afghanistan or Iraq. No one will ever invade Pakistan (Insha'Allah), mark these words. Pakistan army and its nuclear capabilities will always protect it from invasion and war.

Insha'Allah, our internal/external enemies shall never succeed.

Sad times.

Oh, no need to overestimate these animals' motives. They are killers for hire who'd kill their mothers for the $.

I know that. I meant whether the claim was legit or if they were simply being opportunists. They have claimed attacks in the past which they weren't responsible for, in order to make themselves look more widespread and threatening than they already are.

However, what waqar goraya said makes sense. The toll also shows that this was no simplistic attack so it is likely that a group like IS is responsible.
