In last many years I realized that Pakistanis have started talking very openly about the fixing in the 1990s, discussing deeply on Justice Qayyum report etc. So many players have come out with stories to share. It's very revieling

But there's nothing on the Indian side.

No ex cricketer wants to ever bring it up.

No media analyst wants to talk about it.

It's always brushed under the carpet.

Most of the ex cricketers get pension from BCCI so no need for YouTube money 💰.

India dealt with it when they had their crisis. Heavy bans and what not.

Pakistan let majority of their cricketers get away. So justice wasn’t done.

Because India it is not really a problem at thr highest level

Because Indian players involved in match fixing were dealt with accordingly, and no player was let off because of their stature. There are no skeletons in the closet.

Because Tendulkar, Ganguly and Dravid joined hand-in-hand and took India away from the darkest phase of their cricket after the match-fixing saga.

Virender Sehwag came around at that time and brought a new aggression to a redefined Indian cricket team and one just can forget the very very special Laxman who was India's best man under pressure situation.

I want to ask my fellow Indians, do you ever even bother watching highlights if some of tje matches of the 1990s? Personally speaking when these superstars started getting convicted i have never been able tk re-watch an old match with anh sense of seriousness.

Some days ago i came across a so called thriller between India and NZ in 1999. That match probably had more run outs than we see in an entire 5 match series now. My immediate response how do you get out like that in International cricket? Must be one of those fixed matches.

Just can't take the 1990s cricket seriously sometimes.

Brother we had a problem right at the top. Azharuddin, Jadeja were top Indian cricketers in the 1990s.

But after those two, fixing issues seemed to magical disappear. I wonder

There was a video shared a couple days ago (not sure whether you shared it or someone else?) where the police head of investigation and one of the higher ups in BCCI said all the players in the team had sold out except for Sachin. Any idea who these might be? Surely it's some high profile people who got away clean while Azhar and Jadeja were made the scapegoats?

If he said all except Sachin then no point guessing it's everybody :))

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised.

This obviously was big back in the day when only Sachin was making serious legal money.

Azharuddin
Jadeja
Mongia
Prabhakar

These were the prominent players whose names appeared in fixing trial

Manoj Prabhakar did some sting operations I remember :)) Went to talk to Gavaskarb and Shastry with a hidden camera :)) It's on YouTube

Also, about the “why is it a hot topic only here” wasn’t it a super hot topic when Azhar’s trials were going on?

To be fair, I’m basing this off of the movie with Emraan Hashmi. :))

It was big. The fire that initiated in India even took South African cricket.

Hansie Cronje died in an air crash. People used to say fixing mafia did that. But really? Does the fixing mafia even have that sort of power to.orchestrate plane crashes? I never believed in it.

Gibbs was named along with a few more South Africans.

We played a few dodgy series with them in late 1990s and in 2000

Great movie by the way :yk I’ve always wished Pakistan would get movies about our cricketers just like India has of Azhar and Dhoni

“Itni Si Baat Hai” by Arijit Singh was also great :afridi

Wait till next year, Ranveer Singh is dropping "1983" and will be playing role of Kapil Dev in it.

It could be epic. Waiting for the trailer.

:)) or Shoaib Akhtar honestly. Have you seen his Breakfast with Champions episode with Gaurav Kapoor? Shoaib Akhtar describes this one scene with him running as a kid with his arms spread wide and an F-16 flying overhead :)) imagine that on a movie poster

Shoaib actually missed a huge opportunity when he declined to play villain in movie Gangster offered to him by Mahesh Bhatt.

That role was perfect for him.and it would have launched him as a moviestar.

He was on decline curve any way as a cricketer and didn't even play many matches afterwards .

I always thought there was am actor in Shaoib. He should have realized that and gone Dwayne Johnson way

Just looked it up, I'm looking forward to it :salute interesting, they have Deepika contracted as Kapil paaji's biwi

Haha would have loved this. I think Wasim Akram is another missed opportunity. There's so much drama in Pakistan cricket that you'd think Netflix would have invested money in this by now. Unfortunately we have a total of maybe one competent director in our entire country

Cronje made an announcement in 2000 that Azharuddin introduced him to the bookies..

Shoaib Akhtar’s movie would be inspirational.

Perfect story! From a young kid to the fastest bowler of all-time and with his knee injury and all the controversies :))

Shoaib is a passionate guy, if he does any movie he will act well also.

Haha the only way this happens is if Bollywood decides to make something. I don't see Lollywood being able to do something like this

The shame and humiliation which players like Azhar and Jadeja faced kinda set the tone. They were treated like traitors for a long time and boycotted. If people had gone soft on them I think we would have had more fixers than now

Good point

Given the unmatchable amount of halal riches in Indian Cricket even for C and D level cricketers, it would be absolute madness to even contemplate indulging in match fixing

Do a youtube search with 'Tehelka match fixing sting'. You'll get a five part video series about an undercover investigation into Indian match fixing in the 1990s.

The man who claimed that Sachin Tendulkar was the only clean person was Jaywant Lele, the (now former) Secretary of BCCI. He had denied any knowledge of it earlier.

Going by that undercover investigation, the big fishes in match fixing were Jadeja, Azharuddin and Kapil Dev. Lesser crooks like Ajay Sharma got away.

Kapil seems like a rich bloke for his era. He drives Porsche.

Not claiming anything.

He is a legend and the greatest all rounder ever.

As a player the man is a legend. Not taking that away from him.

But he does seem to have changed for the worse after the 1983 WC victory. There has been too much talk about his flashy lifestyle and his diwali gambling parties with multiple crore stakes. One can dismiss these allegations as baseless rumors spread by jealous tongues but it begs the question as to why only Kapil should be targeted? There's no smoke without a fire.
