The fixtures list for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 in India has been released along with the 10 venues for the mega event that will span across 46 days later this year.

The World Cup kicks off on October 5 with a repeat of the 2019 Final as England take on New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Hosts India begin their campaign on October 8 against five-time World Cup winners Australia in Chennai.

A total of 10 teams will participate at the showcase event, the first eight having already qualified through the Cricket World Cup Super League. The final two spots will be determined at the end of the Qualifier tournament in Zimbabwe, which concludes on July 9.

Each team plays the other nine in a round robin format with the top four qualifying for the knockout stage and semi-finals.

Key Fixtures

Apart from the cracking opening encounter and India’s face-off with 2019 semi-finalists Australia, the tournament is filled with a host of crucial clashes.

Australia take on South Africa on October 13 in Lucknow hoping for a reversal of fortunes as a dramatic meeting in the last edition ended in the Proteas’ favour.

The much-anticipated India-Pakistan clash is scheduled for Sunday October 15 in Ahmedabad. Their last encounter in the 2019 World Cup was a high-scoring affair with India achieving a huge victory in Manchester.

Pakistan will face Australia in Bengaluru on October 20, while England clash against South Africa the next day in Mumbai.

India will go up against New Zealand to try and avenge their 2019 semi-final defeat on October 22 at the picturesque Dharamsala venue and Australia face their arch-rivals England on November 4 in Ahmedabad. The defending champions had thrashed the Aussies to storm into the final four years ago.

India will be waiting for England on October 29 in Lucknow, who defeated them in the semi-final of the 2022 T20 World Cup just last year.

The final group stage match will be England up against Pakistan in Kolkata on November 12.

Knockout Stages

The first semi-final will be held on Wednesday November 15 in Mumbai and the second semi-final will be held the following day in Kolkata. Both semi-finals will have a reserve day.

The Final will take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on November 19 with November 20 slated as the reserve day.

All three knock-out fixtures will be day-night affairs, with the matches beginning at 14:00 local time.

Tournament Venues

There will be a total of 10 venues – Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Dharamsala, Delhi, Chennai, Lucknow, Pune, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Kolkata.

Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram in addition to Hyderabad will host the warm-up matches from 29 September to 3 October.

Shortlisted my city, and in the end didn't allot it any match :(

World cup matches should only be alloted to proper stadiums like Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Eden, Mohali and probably Chennai. Why is Delhi and Hyderabad getting so many games?

Eng vs NZ 1st match just like 1996 WC which was also held in India.

Is there a connection or pure co-incidence? :13:

The spectator comfort, view and the stadium in general are better than Bangalore and Eden Gardens.

Will Pakistan team travel to India?

I have funny feeling Pakistan might opt out

God, you've just added another similarity with 96.
First similarity, I noticed was semi final in Kolkata. 😕

What semi final? The only game that matters is on 15th Oct. Whatever happens from there - yawn.

People still remember 152/0 but not what Wade did to Shaheen

People still remember Kohli goes down the ground, Kohli goes out of the ground but harldy anyone care England beating us by 10 wickets in semi's.

Its all about 15th Oct...rest all is just for gimmick.

I hope England vs New Zealand curtain raiser isn’t a random selection and it was done because they were the finalists of the previous World Cup. If that is the case, it is a really good idea.

If it was random, then it is really stupid that the host nation is not playing the opening game. In almost every tournament across different sports, the host nation plays the first game.

So you either have the two finalists of the previous edition play the first game or have the host nation kick off the tournament.

Selecting two random sides makes no sense.

Your detailed predictions for Pakistan in this World Cup and who you think they key performers will be?

Our World Cup journey could be over by 23rd October.

We’re not beating India and Australia in a WC event.

We’re not beating Afghanistan in Chennai.

We’ll lose to one of the qualifying teams, probably Q1 since we never start well in a tournament.

Pakistan playing qualifying teams so early is a very good start. They will be weaker sides and if Pak can get a win against those, it leaves them in a very good position for qualifying with the 50/50 matches following against India, Aus, NZ, SA and England. Pakistan win 3 of those and they are ready for qualification.

Your detailed predictions for Pakistan in this World Cup and who you think they key performers will be?

I think Pakistan is a really good ODI team. This is the best ODI team Pakistan has had in a very long time.

Babar, Fakhar, Imam, Iftikhar, Shaheen, Agha and Usama (if selected), can have a big impact in this World Cup.

Anything less than a semifinal would a failure for this team. A semifinal exit would be a very respectable outcome, but once you get the to the last four, the margins are very fine and it is anyone’s game.

Overall, Pakistan has a much better chance of winning the World Cup in India in 2023 than they did in Australia in 2015 and England in 2019.

I personally think India will finally get their act together and go all the way. They have been falling short by a whisker for 10 years due to a combination of bad luck, poor selections and tactical mistakes in key moments.

2023 World Cup in India might finally be the platform where the stars align for them and the likes of Kohli, Rohit, Ashwin, Jadeja, Shami sign off with a World Cup just like Tendulkar, Sehwag, Gambhir, Zaheer, Harbhajan did in 2011 on home turf.

World cup matches should only be alloted to proper stadiums like Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Eden, Mohali and probably Chennai. Why is Delhi and Hyderabad getting so many games?

Hyderabad is getting 3 and rest of the venues are all getting 5 each. Unless you meant India games?

Itna pessimistic Bro? not beating Afg...really?..

if anything, i feel Pak are righ up there becoz your pacemen have the wherewithal to bowl reverse, bowl seam up, slower ones and yorkers which generally do the trick on indian wickets, especially once the dew comes in.
Indian cricket has been stuffed thanks to BCCI prioritizing the useless IPL hungama over the cricket that really matters, no succsssion planning u migh well see the exit of several indian stars after WC.
but seriously did'nt get the logic of 'not beating afg in chennai'...i mean...whats so special about afg...tbh sometimes chennai provides wonderful even bounce pacy wickets cue 1979 ind vs pak or 1996 wc semis aus vs nz...and several other occasions...which might just play into bowlers like SSA , rauf and hassan ali etc...

Sub continent/Middle East worse place ever to host high profile tournaments..should be called dew cup.

Indian team has two tried and tested approach to solidify its legacy in ICC knockouts:-

1. Lose any two from first 3 matches vs Aus, Afg, Pak and secure the exit door by 15th Oct.

2. Play like champion till semis and then re-enact 96 WC semi-final in Kolkata.

As an Indian, I hope they rule out above two and repeat 2011.

Preceding the main tournament, a series of warm-up matches will take place a week earlier, starting on September 29th and concluding on October 3rd. These warm-up fixtures will be held at Hyderabad, Thiruvananthapuram, and Guwahati.

Pakistan's warm-up games have been scheduled against New Zealand and Australia on September 29th and October 3rd, respectively, in Hyderabad.

So India will play Pakistan where they want them to.

And despite PCB's efforts to secure a change, nothing will happen.

Apparently, this is based upon their request to not play an Asian team in the warm-ups, some sort of victory for the PCB.

Finally, bhaijaan is getting the El Classico vibe. :kp :inti

46 day tournament.

That's a very long tournament in my opinion.

From Chennai to Delhi to Ahmedabad, Team India will be doing quite a bit of travel in their first three games leading up to the clash with Pakistan.

Pakistan might get a little advantage out of being based in the same city for their first 2 games.

So India will play Pakistan where they want them to.

And despite PCB's efforts to secure a change, nothing will happen.

Saj bhai, PCB has already got a nice schedule and easily the best of all teams. They are playing 8 games in Chennai, Blore, Hyderabad and Kolkata. And then just the India game at Ahmedabad .

They are literally avoiding Delhi, Mumbai, Lucknow etc. and no other team has been given that. Australia have to travel a lot and play 8 different venues in the group stage, for instance. India will travel to a new venue for every game.

I think you will be surprised.

Pakistan in subcontinent conditions is a whole different thing. A lot of their weaknesses are going to get covered in India.

Pakistan will get to the semis in my opinion.

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice president Rajeev Shukla said a lot of centres and zones have been accommodated in the recently-released ICC Cricket World Cup schedule and Mohali, Punjab not getting a single match in the tournament is because the current stadium in Mohali did not meet the standards of ICC, whose consent is extremely important in finalising the venues for the tournament. Shukla's statement comes after Punjab Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer had raised objections to the exclusion of Mohali from the WC schedule.

"The exclusion of Punjab's Mohali from the list of host cities for the tournament was due to political interference. Punjab government will raise this issue with BCCI," Hayer had said.

Punjab Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer condemns the exclusion of Mohali from the list of cities to host the ICC Cricket World Cup-2023

Shukla said that this time 12 venues have been chosen for the mega cricketing event, something which has not happened before.

"For the first time, 12 venues have been chosen for World Cup. Earlier, these many venues were not chosen in previous World Cups. Out of these 12 venues, warm-up matches will be held in Trivandrum and Guwahati, remaining venues will have league matches. More centres have been accommodated.

From South Zone four venues, from central zone one venue, West Zone two, North Zone two venues. Delhi and Dharamshala will host the matches (In North Zone)," said Shukla in an exclusive interview with ANI.

Shukla said that bilateral series matches will be given to Mohali and there will be no discrimination.

"Virat Kohli's 100th Test last year was given to Mohali. Mullanpur Stadium is getting ready in Mohali. Had it been ready, they would have got a World Cup match. The current stadium in Mohali did not meet the standards of ICC and hence was denied matches. But that does not matches would not be given to them. Bilateral series matches will be given to them, it is based on a rotational system. No 'pick and choosing' has been done. ICC's consent is important in finalising the venues. In Trivandrum, warm-up matches have been given, for the first time. It is not that any centre/zone has been ignored. Stadiums have been chosen after a lot of consideration, even in North East Zone, Guwahati got the matches. A lot of accommodation has been done in the schedule," he added.

On the World Cup schedule, Shukla said that new venues have been added this time around.

"Lucknow has been added. Uttar Pradesh never got a chance to host a World Cup match. Guwahati has been given a chance. Many venues from the South have been added. A fair amount of consideration was given before venues were finalised. ICC has to approve these venues. It is not purely in our hands. All those raising objections should realise that we need consent from ICC to pick up these venues," he said.

Shukla on a concluding note said that the World Cup will be successful and lead to revival of the ODI format on a global level.

Pretty much the same duration as the PSL, and thr latter happens every year and is only 6 teams.

This article puts things in perspective

The Indian team led by Rohit Sharma will be the most travelled team among top contenders in the upcoming ODI World Cup, covering a distance of approximately 8400 km while crisscrossing nine cities for nine league games in 34 days. In case India reaches semi-final and then the final, the distance covered would be close to 9700 km for 11 games in 42 days.

While 8400 kms in 34 days might not seem a lot, considering that Indian players will finish their games around 11 pm and will have a flight to catch every third day, it indeed becomes very tiresome after gruelling 100 over games.

When Indian team plays at home, it usually travels by charter flights and not by commercial flights which reduces the duration and distance travelled considerably but business class is not available always. Little leg space will make it tough for fast bowlers. India is the only team that will play league games in each of the nine cities. All other prominent teams play at least two games in one city. Hence once team lands in Chennai for the Australia game, the aerial distance traversed will be in this order: Chennai to Delhi (1761 km), Delhi to Ahmedabad (775 km), Ahmedabad to Pune (516 km), Pune to Dharamsala (1936 km), Dharamsala to Lucknow (748 km), Lucknow to Mumbai (1190 km), Mumbai to Kolkata (1652 km) and Kolkata to Bengaluru (1544 km).

The cumulative distance travelled is 8361 km.

"In case of Indian team, you can't deny any of the nine associations a chance to watch their stars in action. You had to accommodate each and every member association and hence it's a bit choc-a-bloc," a BCCI official told PTI on Tuesday.

Also the schedule is such that first team players won't get any time for net sessions between the games as there is hardly three-day gap.

Most sessions will be optional ones keeping the physical condition of players in mind.

Security makes it easy for Pakistan

Pakistan are scheduled to play two games each in Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata and Bengaluru. The only single-city game for Pakistan is in Ahmedabad where they take on India in a high-stakes match on October 15.

While Rohit and his players will travel extensively, Babar Azam's side will travel around 6849 km. More importantly it will get a week each in two cities --Hyderabad at the start of the tournament and Chennai during the final week of October.

Pakistan will play their first two matches (October 6,12) against two Qualifiers in Hyderabad.

They will travel from Hyderabad to Ahmedabad (876 km), Ahmedabad to Bengaluru (1235), Bengaluru to Chennai (284 km), Chennai to Kolkata (1366 km), Kolkata to Bengaluru (1544 km) and Bengaluru to Kolkata (1544 km).

While security is one of the reasons that Pakistan gets to play in three South Indian and one Eastern India city, it helps to acclimatize better with conditions by spending more time in a city.

Australia get a week in Lucknow

Australia, the five time champions, also travel way less compared to India with a week's stay in Lucknow between October 9 and 16 where they play South Africa and a Qualifier.

The total distance travelled by Australia is 6907 km. Their travelling itinerary is Chennai to Lucknow (1534 km), Lucknow to Bengaluru (1578 km), Bengaluru to Delhi (1740 km), Delhi to Dharamsala (409 km), Dharamsala to Ahmedabad (1087), Ahmedabad to Mumbai (441 km) and Mumbai to Pune (118 km).

England travel nearly as much as India

The defending champions England is another team that travels nearly as much as India with no two back-to-back games in a single city. The Jos Buttler-led team, though, has two games scheduled in Ahmedabad.

England travel around 8171 km. They go from Ahmedabad to Dharamsala (1162 km), Dharamsala to Delhi (409 km), Delhi to Mumbai (1148 km), Mumbai to Bengaluru (841 km), Bengaluru to Lucknow (1578 km), Lucknow to Ahmedabad (942 km), Ahmedabad to Pune (516 km) and Pune to Kolkata (1575 km).

I am hearing that India (if qualify) will play its semi final in Mumbai. However, if its against Pakistan, it will be shifted to Kolkata, as Pakistan team is not permitted to play in Mumbai.

Pak being lucky in terms of traveling and BD is lucky in terms of venues and respective opponents according to their strength.

It's insane not to award a single game to Mohali.

It's insane not to award a single game to Mohali.
You could very well make that case for Nagpur, Kanpur, Barabati(Cuttack) etc.

The time when BCCI wanted to play at multiple venues(check 1996 when there was only 1 match per venue) is long gone.

They played only in 8 venues in 2011 as well. Dharamshala and Lucknow have replaced Mohali and Nagpur.

Heck, even a traditional cricketing centre like Bangalore did not get major India matches . Considering the venues selected , both IND vs NZ and IND vs OZ should have been played in Bangalore where we have smashed these teams.

Hearing the cricket Association bengal also requested for rescheduling of Pakvs Eng game, if true this is comical,

What an incompetent institution BCCI are. In spite of their endless billions and mastery they still can't put together a schedule for a global event.

The world cup is two months away and we still don't know who is playing who and when. Pathetic.

The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has requested the BCCI to move the England vs Pakistan ODI World Cup game, scheduled to be played at Kolkata's Eden Gardens on November 12, to another date, suggesting November 11 as an alternative. The development came after the city police informed CAB that they are expecting enhanced security for the game as Pakistan are one of the teams. November 12 is also the date for Kalipujo, one of the city's, and the region's, most important Hindu festivals.

It's interesting that one of the main arguments for the BCCI taking 90% of the game's revenue for themselves is due to their supposed power, when absolutely everything about this upcoming event, from the ticketing, organisation, fixtures, logistics is showing them to be completely incapable of their jobs.

Tournament is in two months, it's a world cup and anyone abroad actually wanting to go has no idea when matches are, cannot receive online tickets, venues arent fixed, it's an absolute mess.

Their performance on field is similarly hot and cold. Hot up until it’s time to play for an ICC trophy. Controls 75% of the money, they should at least win 25% of all ICC events.

With the ODI World Cup 2023 around the corner, a massive fire broke out in one of the venues for the mega tournament - Eden Gardens. The fire broke in one of the dressing rooms of the legendary stadium in Kolkata, as per local reports. (More Cricket news)

Eden Gardens is slated to host several ODI World Cup games including the India-South Africa game on November 5. It will also play host to the second semi-final on November 16.

The fire broke out around 11:50 pm, according to a report in Sangabad Pratidin, a local newspaper.

The groundstaff present at the stadium, saw the fire coming out of the 'away end's dressing room'. As per the report, the renovation work was going outside the dressing room. The report further states that smoke ensued from the false ceiling of the dressing room. However, fire brigade was called for and the fire was doused as soon as possible.

Mohali is ahead of all those stadiums in pecking order.

Lol at Lucknow being awarded a game and not all those stadiums! Why? Just for it being ruled by bisht? sanghis have infested every nook and corner of India and cricket is no different.

BCCI has truly made a hash of this, so far. Hopefully things will be better going forward.

I don't see BCCI apologists yet on this thread

I dont agree with Mohali being ahead of those venues because they were older Test venues.

Lucknow is still understandable. It's pretty much the main venue in UP now ahead of Kanpur

But Dharmsala? Mohali should've been there ahead of Dharamsala for sure.

Modi and the real pappu of India, Jay Shah and their rubbish venue selection. They can palm it off as much as they want to the ICC, but Wankhede/Eden Gardens are the only deserving places for a Final.

Bengaluru gets some useless India-Netherlands game. The only decent game we get seems to be Australia-Pakistan. There's an England-SL but will probably skip that.
