Matt Renshaw will probably one of the great Test openers assuming the format remains prominent for a long time.

He is technically extremely good, capable of batting in very difficult conditions against very good bowlers. His temperament is ridiculously good, he is always relaxed, doesn't seem to lose his concentration at all, selects his shots very well.

Even more importantly, despite the perception as a better version of Ed Cowan, he can play aggressively as well and has good initial List A numbers and can cash in on his starts.

He batted really well against Ashwin. He is probably ahead of Hameed and Jennings.

Don't think there is anything special about Jennings at all. Over-rated because his one good innings was his first one. Total flop apart from that. Haseeb Hameed is very talented and a much better comparison. Still think Renshaw is better placed, particularly because he has a top gear when it's appropriate.

On the lines of Chris Rogers.

An excellent find and makes a very good combination with Warner.

At the start of this innings, I told myself, if he scores again in this innings then he is surely a futur great.
In these kind of conditions, to screw in 3 innings in a row is very difficult. And if you consider the fact that he is a 20 year old Australian playing in India, it makes things even better for him.

All the Ozzie batsmen have learned to play on this tour by watching misbah hehe.
And the poor guy still gets bashed at home for his strike rate of 35

By contrast, the troubles of handscomb (with that awful stance of both feet behind the crease) were entirely predictable. Safe to say he will be in trouble wherever there is no true bounce.

Hats off Matt Renshaw- What an inning!

Simply incredible level of concentration and determination you would expect from a modern era test player.

One of the best blockathons you would get to see on a pitch as difficult as this. This isn't any random blockathon played in 4th inning of the game in the process to save a test match.

This is done to ensure that a collapse doesnt happen. This is done to make sure that he keeps holding one end without losing even a bit of focus because one wicket and suddenly a collapse could have happened.

Its to be seen how long he continues that and whether this inning could impact the result of the match but IMO its probably the best knock I have seen by an overseas batsmen in India since KP's 183 in Mumbai 5 years ago.

Quality test match innings right there folks. I stress on the phrase "test match".

This lad looks to have potential.

Many edges goes through that slip cordon,he looks shaky against fast bowlers

But definitely a good inngs may be great considering his age and the pitch

By far he's the best batsman in the series until now

None of those edges was ever going to be out because he was playing with very soft hands

More to do with the variable bounce. Everyone is finding those edges here. He still looked the most assured batsmen from both sides in this match ahead of Rahul who at times lacked calmness and patience in his inning.

Former Test opener Matthew Renshaw is to take a break from cricket "to freshen up" after he was dropped by the Queensland Bulls for this week's resumption of the Marsh Sheffield Shield.

Having gone 28 Shield innings without scoring a century since his last appearance for Australia in March 2018, Renshaw has decided to take a step back from the game in the short-term with the support of Queensland Cricket.

Bennett King, Queensland Cricket’s general manager of performance, pathways and coaching, said: “As part of our usual review process of player performance, our coaching and support staff spent time with Matthew this week and they all came to the conclusion that he would benefit from some time away from cricket.

"We’re confident Matthew will benefit from a break from the game to freshen up, and look forward to working with him once he is ready to resume playing," King told News Corp.

Renshaw had been expected to be named in a Cricket Australia XI to play the England Lions development squad in a four-day game in Hobart this week following his axing by Queensland, but the 23-year-old told selectors of his decision to step away from the game before the squad was announced.

No timeframe has been set on the Queenslander's return although it is expected to be only a few weeks to refresh after a long and difficult summer.

It's a dramatic change in fortunes for the left-hander, who was touted as a long-term opening prospect when he debuted at the age of just 20 against South Africa in 2016.

Even after he was dropped just days out from the 2017-18 home Ashes series, he showed his wares in an impressive county stint with Somerset the following winter, scoring three hundreds in just six games to storm back into Test calculations.

He was picked for Australia's Test tour of the UAE in late 2018 but, having suffered a concussion during a tour match leading into the series, he hasn't been sighted at international level since.

He averaged 22 from nine Shield matches last summer and managed just 182 runs at 20 in the first half of this Shield campaign.

However, his dip in form against the red ball has not been mirrored in the shorter formats, where he's transformed himself into a handy middle-order player for both Queensland in one-day cricket and Brisbane Heat in the KFC BBL.

The Bulls, who sit third on the Shield ladder, have been able to call on Test incumbents Marnus Labuschagne and Joe Burns as well as skipper Usman Khawaja for the match against Tasmania at the Gabba, with rookie Bryce Street - Queensland's leading run-scorer so far this season - tipped to open the batting alongside Burns in Renshaw's absence.

Queensland squad: Usman Khawaja (c), Joe Burns, Cameron Gannon, Sam Heazlett, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan McSweeney, Michael Neser, James Peirson, Bryce Street, Mark Steketee, Mitch Swepson, Jack Wildermuth

He seems to be in very good form. Could have been selected in the Ashes. I hope he is back to the test side soon, looks to be a good player.
Currently playing on 130 in marsh cup

Marsh cup is a 50 overs tournament.

A pity, sad for him. When in saw him in 2017 tour of India, I thought here is a pure test batsman without the T20 flash. Looks to be a cheery bloke as well.
Good luck Champ, hope he is back soon...

I don't think Australia need anymore of bootleg Hayden for the time being.

There are far better Australian openers in the domestic circuit. Who are not just better home-track bullies but also better openers than him.

I feel like Australia should've persisted with him. They dropped him after only a few innings.

He is also very young. A good prospect.

Scored a first innings fifty followed by a second innings hundred against a very good attack.
I hope he comes back in the test team soon. Even in ODI's I think he might be better than Labu.

Matt Renshaw will face Pakistan for the Prime Minister's XI — with a chance to show selectors he should be David Warner's Test successor

Opening batter Matt Renshaw knows he has the technique and ability to succeed in Test cricket for Australia, but it is the work he's done on his mindset that has him ready to embrace a recall.

The 27-year-old Queenslander will play for the Prime Minister's XI on Wednesday against Pakistan in Canberra in a four-day game that has been tagged a virtual selection trial to replace David Warner when he retires after the third Test against the same opposition.

Renshaw and fellow opening contenders Marcus Harris and Cameron Bancroft will also participate in the match.

After being in and out of Australia's side in a 14-Test career across seven years, Renshaw has learned to handle the rollercoaster of professional cricket.

Elite athletes utilise various methods to enhance their mental edge including practising mindfulness, meditation and breathing techniques.

Renshaw has discovered what works for him.

"It is about communicating," he said.

"When I was struggling I would keep it all locked into myself but at the moment I am trying to be open with my feelings and the way I am thinking with people close around me.

"Everyone at this level has pretty similar ability. It is how you work out the mental stuff that is the biggest challenge.

"You look at all the guys at the top level of their sports and they have a better mindset and way of dealing with failure than others.

"Obviously there is the technique stuff that I continue to work on but I have tried to work on my mindset away from cricket and my mindset while I am batting.

"I work with some people away from cricket that know me well. It has been a long process trying to work on that."

Renshaw's determination to not stress over things he can't control came to the fore when he outlined his attitude to the "selection trial" at Manuka Oval.

"I just see it as another game of cricket," he said.

"I know it is the job of the media to talk about selections but I get to play with 10 cricketers who I will hopefully get to know better, and hopefully get a win with. That is our job."

As for the possibility, put forward by coach Andrew McDonald, that Marnus Labuschagne might be moved up from No.3 to open post-Warner, Renshaw was pragmatic.

"Whatever the Australian selectors think is best is what will happen and me saying anything is not going to change anyone's opinions. Whoever deserves the job will get the job," he said.

Renshaw started the season with two Sheffield Shield half-centuries and two hundreds — one apiece in the Shield and Marsh Cup — but runs have been hard to come by in recent four-day games with some good deliveries on challenging pitches getting him out.

"People decide how your form is based on your runs but I feel like I am batting as well as I have and that my game is tracking really well. That is all I can control," he said.

With the news of David Warner's retirement, the opening spot will be empty so it looks like Matt Crenshaw wants to grab that spot. He surely can do justice to his spot. Good chance for him to perform well in that 4-day tour game and be the first in line to be the next opener.
