Media reports suggesting that Asif Ali and Mohammad Amir will replace Abid Ali and Faheem Ashraf for the final World Cup squad.

All unconfirmed as PCB saying no decision has been taken and still time for decisions until end of the ODI Series

Why selecting Amir when he is not tested even once in his current form in the current series? Should give Amir a chance to prove he is better IMO.

If its true ... Feels sorry for Abid Ali. The guy gets selected, gets a hug from chief selector only to be sent back home without playing a game. PITY

It’s unfortunate for Abid but our Top 3 is set in stone it’s not changing, at least not for this WC.

Give Abid atleast 1 game before sends him home... Sarfrsz should be rested and let Abid does the keeping

Harsh on Abid (at least give him a chance).

But Amir is a common sense selection after what the bowlers just did in the last two ODIs. At the bare minimum, he will keep the run rate down.

Faheem deserved to be dropped

Not a bowler or a batsman. He needs to massively improve his batting otherwise he will never come back to Pakistan team. Harsh on Abid Ali without giving him a chance. Malik deserved to be dropped

Although, like most posters are saying, it's unfair on Abid and I agree . . but if Asif Ali performed, thre are only 2 people that could have made way for him . . Abid Ali and Shoaib . . Shoaib is experienced and this is an overall very inexperienced squad, so team management feels they need someone like Shoaib . . second of all, Imam and Fakhar will play the world cup . . very difficult for Abid to break into the team whereas Shoaib may come into the fore . . especially if pitches start becoming slower or spinner friendly if its a hot summer in England, then Shoaib may come into the team . .

So although, I am gutted for Abid ali as he has done nothing wrong . . I genuinely hope that communication from the selection committee was good from the get go . .

I also don't see the need for either of Imam or Fakhar to be rested . . they need to get all the game time they can get . . for batsman, the more time you spend in the middle (especially when you're in form), the better it is . .

Shoaib Malik the specialist fielder a vital cog in the team never lets you down or drops a catch. It’s a shame he’s useless at batting and bowling. Seriously though the selectors are only protecting their personal relationships with Shoaib and other seniors by not dropping them even when they deserved to be dropped. Worried that Shoaib won’t invite them over for dinner so they can get a swatch at his wife.

Brilliant decision regarding Amir, it should have happened in the first place, but yet they decided to give Faheem a last trip to England on his paid vacations.

Unfair on Abid, Shoaib Malik should have been the one to be dropped. It can be argued that there was no need of too many openers, still anyone is better than Malik these days.

That is totally ridiculous.....!!!

Abid should have stayed in the team... Malik should have been KICKED OUT!

Malik needs to bowl min. 5 overs, otherwise he will be offering nothing. And his bowling better be very good!

Giving Abid Ali a game would have been a risky business. What if he scored a ton again, some of the senior would have been on the flight back home.

Poor chap. He made an insta account and posted the world cup squad with his picture in the 15. This is the most ruthless decision I have ever seen by Pakistani cricket decision makers.

Faheem deserves to be dropped and let me guess rest of the bowlers have been miles ahead have they in this england series!!! I do know faheem isnt the Razzak or Mahmood we have been looking for but i wouldnt drop him. Amir does need to get in somehow i dont know how.

agree with everything said in this post. very good points.

No decision yet.

Basically Faheem will be dropped because of his batting more than his bowling.

His inability to do anything of note especially in the 3rd odi when even Hasan Ali and Shaheen Afridi were smoking sixes meant that he was in direct competition with the other fast bowlers based on bowling ability alone.

While Asif Ali gave some performances to be selected, he should have been at the expense of whom is debatable.

On the other hand our bowling performances have been so poor that rather than selecting someone who performs better than the others we had to go for the option who has been poor but maybe less poor than the other one who is being dropped.

Cant deny the ability of Amir on his day but he has done nothing to get a place in WC, i like him in the team especially for such a big event but its a shame he got that without improvement and hardwork.

What must he be feeling. They should have made it clear from the start then that his inclusion is not confirmed so that he would have been prepared anyways.
Poor guy doesnt deserve this.So demoralizing for him.

Dropping Abid Ali is unjust. Shoaib Malik should have got the plane ticket.

The decision to drop Faheem for Amir is justified.

Further changes should have been made:

- Haris Rauf in for Junaid Khan
- Umar Akmal in for Sarfraz (with either Hafeez, Amir or Imad to lead the side).
- Rizwan on stand-by as the back-up keeper at the expense of Yasir Shah

Because Pakistan have failed to develop our younger spinners I wouldn't bring anyone in, no point denting their confidence on such batting friendly surfaces.

After the changes in the squad I would play the following XI:

Fakhar
Imam
Babar
Haris
Hafeez
Asif Ali
Imad
Sarfraz
Hasan Ali
Amir
Shaheen

I don't have much faith in Shadab and his batting at a SR of sub-70 doesn't inspire confidence, so I would distribute 20 overs to Imad, Hafeez and Haris.

Sarfraz should come in at 8/9 because he can't accumulate or hit effectively, so he should be treated like a glorified tail-ender.

I think Azhar mahmood has destroyed the wicket taking mentality of our fast bowlers....Hassan ali was successful in the champions trophy bcz he was new to the team...and ruman raess as well..same could be said about usman shinwari....but after coming in contact with azhar mahmood they are on decline....even faheem ashraf m. Aamir and shaheen shah afridi are also suffering from bad tactics of azhar mahmood...

Valid point....
But what good in Malik's experience when he can't put it to use in the conditions where 350 is not even a winning score? I would still keep Abid in place of Malik because what if Imam or Fakhar get injured or go totally out of form. What if Imam's 150 was just flash in the pan? Would rather push Abid to open or Hafeez, in those cases?

I dont believe i am saying this but they should kick Hasnain for Shinwari.

Or

they should have gone one bowler short and kept Abid for Hasnain.

Selecting Abid Ali was wrong in the first place. Everybody knew he wasn't going to play over Fakhar and Imam. So we has just wasting a spot.

It is a stronger squad now than it was a couple of weeks back.

Agreed Abid was never going to play although he should get a game now as we cant win the series..Asif Ali has only done well because of the pitches

We kept 'grooming' Faheem for 2 years only to leave him out of the world cup and he played all the games on the tour so far.. Hasnain on the other hand has not even played a single ODI for Pakistan and is untested in this format at this level is part of the WC squad.. Genius..

Amir is 'unfit' and was not selected in the prelim 15 WC squad. How has his 'resting' now justified his selection? Mind boggling..

Very unfair on Abid but atleast this confirms one thing that Hafeez is not guaranteed to be in the starting XI.

With no backup opener now - I am fairly certain Hafeez will be used for that role...

Because Malik is senior that doesn't mean you can't drop him. Feeling sad for Abid Ali

Have I missed something- Has Amir improved since he was dropped, On what basis have they bought him back?

Had Asif originally been in the squad u can garuntee he would have done his usual hit straight up in the air shots & got out. So he decided to dig in & get a 50 then hit the straight up in the air shots.

Pak team/management are rotten to the core!

I feel like Amir was going to make it to the WC squad anyways. They left him out of the initial selection to put pressure on him to work on his bowling and come back to good form. There’s no way you can not choose Amir when the WC is in England despite his poor form.

Another huge issue with this "report" is that if the decision has already been made and the report is true then this decision is made based on TWO ODIs with ODIs to still to be played.

Why not wait until end of the series to make these changes? What if Asif Ali or Amir miserably fail in next 2 ODIs or Fahim/Abid perform very well?

I would have sent Hafeez home to give company to Faheem in flight. Hafeez has been out for long, he is plus 40 and against top class swing or fast bowling he is useless.

If Abid can get into the team based on one performance, it's fine to exclude him like this too.

Yeah, it looks cruel but that's how the game is.

Unverified but clearly someone is leaking things out to the media again. Amir should come in for Hasnain (if fit). We already have an inexperienced fast bowler in Shaheen. Can’t have 2 for the WC. Abid is a good find but there’s no room in the top 3 atm..Asif is the better fit for the squad.

Asif and Amir would be excellent inclusions.

Malik is another important player in my opinion and deserves to get into the side. He could easily replace Ashraf.

So a person (Abid Ali) gets dropped even without playing a game! #GreatLogicPCB. Harris Sohail should get dropped for his lazy batting (failing to slide his bat in) and terrible fielding.

Invested in useless Faheem for 3 years and he turns out to be the worst. Talk about having an eye for talent. Pak management is the worst.

Wahab Riaz has bowled beautifully in Pakistan Cup. Shinwari and Wahab both should be in this squad. I'd drop Junaid and Husnain.

Poor Abid Ali was always a threat for nephew. Quite atrocious that he is being sent back without even giving a chance. If they wanted to induct another player in Asif Ali they should have done what SL did and add an extra player and pay for him out of their own pocket. I'm pretty sure paying for one extra player wouldn't have brought banktrupcy for PCB.

In any case quite astonishing that for the thick tank it is ok to replace an opener with a middle order batsman, but not ok to replace a middle order batsman with another, all to keep senior Malik in the side.

If this isn't evidence that the troika of Inzi, Sarf and Mickey don't know what they are doing then idk what is.

Nothing new hear.... same story for the last 8-9 years.

Two stints of Waqar and 1 one stint of Mickey wrote 80-90% of that story. Shows how important it is to have right people with the national team and in the selection committees. Poor stuff from PCB management who selected them as none of them have any proven credentials leading upto their selection as head coach for Pak.

To be fair Malik gave a speech after the india loss at the CT which we went on to win afterwards. If he is only in the sqaud for team spirit and not in the playing 11 no harm done.

Harsh on Abid but only one of Asif and Abid can be selected. Regarding Amir was an excellent decision, faheem does nothing with ball or bat, he can go play Ramadhan t20 cup just like UA playing.

Good decision to drop Faheem as he offers nothing. Unfortunate for Abid to be dropped as top 3 is already set. I would still give him next 2 games for practice.

What PCB should've done was to include Faheem and Abid in 17 man squad for the england series and not for WC in the first place.

Free loader makes it to the side after picking up 3 wickets in 2 years.... congratulations!!
It wasn't ever in doubt

This is disappointing for Abid. Ideally Malik should have been dropped but that was not going to happen in this seniority culture. Amir is lucky that others have bowled so badly.

Saj sir can you please confirm this? and will amir be fit atleast for warm up games?

if we don't get our act right we maywell in 2-3 years time become the 4th best Asian side only ahead of SL
i still think we are a bit better than bangla and afg but future doesn't look promising even our u16 is being demolished by bangla

I'm hearing that the squad isn't finalised yet.

Mickey, Sarfaraz and Inzi will meet to finalise the squad next week.

The fairest thing here is for Malik and Abid to play the remaining two games and give it to whoever performs better (of course the right thing would be for Malik to not even be in England in any capacity).
To a lesser extent the same applies to Hafeez, he should be auditioning vs Haris sohail.
Its been said many time over on this forum but nothing encapsulates Pakistan cricket's fall from grace than selectors' hand-wringing over Malik and Hafeez.

This is becoming absolute mess. I am sure they had absolutely no clue of the condition, squad combination or even the core skill set of players, neither what actually is required for the team - now beating about the bush, if some how there is a rabbit hiding under..........

In a squad of 15 you don't need to play 500 International games to fix 10-12 names - these are automatic choices. For rest 3-4 players, what they are doing is shambolic - PAK's cricket heritage demanded better. More or less, WC brings chaos in PCT - from coach change to fixing ban to failed drug test to in fights to captaincy drama ..... this year, team could keep their sanity high, so obviously somewhere else it had to strike.

The way things are moving, apart from Sarfraz & Imam, I doubt who is safe and who would finally make the 15!!!! They had full 2 years to fix one squad for this WC, and now we are stuck with so many questions -

1. Which 7 batsmen are to be picked? MoHa, Malik has a glorious record in UK, and they haven't played in this tour so far, but PCT invested 2 years behind their a$$ for 2 of the most critical spots - No. 4 & 5. Abid came like a comet - made WC squad of 15 after 2 innings, which was knee-jerk action, now dropping him will be knee-jerk reaction. They never tried a 3rd opener for 2 years - if not Abid, it'll be Babar who hasn't opened in ODI for 3 years, .... or MoHa, whose stats as opener outside Asia itself is a class. After investing 1 full year, they dropped Asif when they tried several back-ups whom one shouldn't even consider for WC - now going back to him after 2 decent innings.

2. If Abid is dropped, WHO IS GOING TO BE THE BACK-UP WK? There is no one to cover for Captain, whose recent shape suggests a change in Biryani intake .... keeping (& leading) 9 games in 5 weeks isn't a joke for someone of his shape & age ..... and ICC is not going to let loose for PAK on fitness. Even if so, it's not easy to fly a WK from 8 hours flight distance and ask him to keep in a WC game.

3. If they drop the fast-bowling all-rounder Faheem Ashraf - who is going to contribute with bat from No. 8 - at least on papers? For 2 years, they have charged every drop of fuel including 5 mighty games against ZIM reserves through one turbine - now if they drop him, who'll explain that? There were at least 3 decent prospects in Amad, Yamin & Anwar Ali to give a try - now 1 week before final squad if they drop the only guy perceived to be fast bowling all-rounder, someone should answer it - it's a WC in UK, not in UAE, fast bowlers will be required both for net practice and match practice.

4. If they drop Faheem for Amir and don't consider Shadab for starting XI - PAK's WC attack might end with Amir, Shaheen, Hasan, JK, Imad (who is basically 5th pacer at 90K speed), backed by Hari ....... that's 5 Lefti and one loose cannon ..... it'll be a sight to watch.

5. If Asif is picked, he must have to start, otherwise Rizwan can contribute much, more in field as 12th man ...... if Asif starts, means either they'll drop the guy in red hot form (Hari), or drop a regular bowler to play Asif/Malik at 7 ........

6. If Yasir wasn't in plan, then why he was given 6 games at stress despite his horrible ODI records? It's expected that by the business end of WC, tracks should assist spinners - but, spinners that can turn on drier surfaces ..... why no genuine spinner had been tried for 3 years and now, the only options now left are Imad & Shadab - neither of whom can make the XI on bowling merit only, and both might be struggling for fitness.

FGS someone escalate this to Bare Khan .... at least he can sack this old guy Ehsan Mani ......

PCB defined in a perfect way!

So many posters bashing shoaib Malik it's laughable. Seems like malik-bashing is a favorite pastime around here. Take it from an outsider, he is your best outfielder & a dependable middle-order batsman more suited to the no.6 or 7 role, arriving around 35-40 overs & finishing off the innings.

Both sarfaraz, shadab (25 ball 3 in asia cup), faheem or asif are poor at finishing innings.

Yes asif ali, when the pressure will be on, against quality bowling, he will fail. He is a glorified slogger, good for some quick 30s.

Shoaib Malik is an international veteran & clutch player.

some really immature posts

The purpose of taking Asif Ali to England was to test him. Abid Ali was never going to be kept in the team for godssake. He got 1 century, Rizwan got 2 in the same series.

We ahve been losing games due to bad finishing thus asif was needed, but we had to test him.

Now whether Abid alis feeling got hurt and suddenly he is not part of the world cup... Booohooo. **** happens.
I knew from day 1 that 1 of these guys were going to be dropped, hence no need for to much picture taking and all. Abid Ali was going to be dropped for obvious reasons, Faheem was a surprise

Also its a world cup, not a series. I will always take experience over a newbie
