Karachi: Experienced left-arm pacer Mohammad Amir was Thursday included in Pakistan's World Cup squad after their bowlers were taken to the cleaners by England recently.

The thrashing by English batsmen in a T20 International and two ODIs has alarmed the selectors, who were initially not keen on picking Amir for the showpiece owing to lack of form.

Though Amir is suspected to be suffering from chicken pox and is to have a medical examination done in London, a reliable source told PTI that the team management, including captain Sarfaraz Ahmed and head coach Mickey Arthur, expressed confidence in the bowler and allowed him time to recover.

"The chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq is also in agreement with the team management but he wants to first be sure Amir can be fit by the time the World Cup starts from May 30," the source said.

I see no chance of Pakistan doing well in this WC. They are presenting us comedy after comedy with their team selection. Is this this the worst team in the history of Pakistan to represent in WC?

Gutted so sad to hear about Abid.

Sarfraz said Abid is picked over Shan Masood because of his good form and also because he can keep incase we need a backup keeper. For once show some guts Sarfi i expect nothing from Mickey and Inzi.

should have brought shinwari back instead of amir

Shinwari looks like one of those guys who will go for runs and also take wickets. His strike rate/average reflects that. He can be slippery. In English conditions on a cloudy day could have been handy. I think Pakistan missed a trick.

no-brainer decisions

Abid was going to have a hard time getting a game in the WC, given the form Fakhar and Imam are in. Asif is much need in the lower-middle order anyway

And Faheem looks horrible. I would have preferred Shinwari, but Amir is fine

Give Malik and Abid the next 2 games and decide from that. We are going to need some very solid batting in this WC to compete with the likes of Eng, India and Australia.
I for one would prefer Hafeez over Malik just for his better batting avg.

Well strange that you name a guy in your 15 and then drop him without giving him a chance? That will be hard on Abid Ali.

Dont worry we will still do much better than mighty Bangladesh.

Yeah we have seen what our meritorious bowlers have done so far

He will do worse than the current crop.
A person who took only handful wickets in past two years.
How he will take wickets now he is half fit on his last legs. He is a dead horse

Good decision to bring in Amir, but unfair on Abid. Asif should be replacing Malik, not Abid.

Malik has a better average and SR than Hafeez. Not that it means much both are mediocre.

Asif and Amir would be excellent inclusions.

Malik is another important player in my opinion and deserves to get into the side. He could easily replace Ashraf.

Malik definitely deserves a spot in the starting 11. Cant argue with that one.

So many posters bashing shoaib Malik it's laughable. Seems like malik-bashing is a favorite pastime around here. Take it from an outsider, he is your best outfielder & a dependable middle-order batsman more suited to the no.6 or 7 role, arriving around 35-40 overs & finishing off the innings.

Both sarfaraz, shadab (25 ball 3 in asia cup), faheem or asif are poor at finishing innings.

Yes asif ali, when the pressure will be on, against quality bowling, he will fail. He is a glorified slogger, good for some quick 30s.

Shoaib Malik is an international veteran & clutch player.

superb post yaar

Especially over a guy like Ashraf. Ashraf looked so toothless with the bat on flat tracks.

I don't get the hate on this forum for a guy like Malik, he has experience and is one of the ONLY players in the side who tries to rotate the strike and keeps his own SR above 100 if needed. A lot of the others only play for themselves.

Malik batted good today as did Hafeez. If Abid Ali plays next game and gets a score, it's a big headaache for the selectors.

Yeah we have seen what our meritorious bowlers have done so far

And what has he done? Averaging above 90 in his recent ODI matches. And it doesn't mean you don't select bowlers on merit. If the players selected on merit don't perform, then select others on merit, doesn't mean you have to revert to tried tested failures.
