tyron_woodley: Unlike some fanatical Indians I have no issues with Pakistan. I am as Punjabi as they are. Some of my best friends are from Pakistan. I choose this nickname for no particular reason. Tyron is my middle name. Woodley is my favourite UFC fighter. Huge fan of Woodley.
PakPassion.net: What is your ethnic background? I have noticed your critical posts in the Yorkshire thread so would just like to know some background.
tyron_woodley: Well my parents and myself were born in Australia. My parents hail from India. My dad is Punjabi and my mum is Anglo Indian.
PakPassion.net: Why do you put so much importance on the toss?
tyron_woodley: Stats show that the home team has a 75% chance of winning the Test if they win the toss. This particularly true amongst the big 3 and New Zealand. Can include Pakistan too but they have been inconsistent.
Away team winning the toss still doesn’t equate to home advantage but it makes the game fairer.
Both teams never get to play under the same conditions. I believe conditions have to be the same to judge who truly is the better side in a test match. Often one team gets the worst conditions or pitches to play on and this in my opinion simply isn’t fair. Maybe we can alternate pitches every day or play exclusively on weekends. Perhaps alternate toss winners after every test by giving equal opportunity for both teams.

tyron_woodley: Rahul Dravid. game is never over till he is out. he is a phenom. The wall. Absolutely indestructible and a must-have in any ATG side.

tyron_woodley: Dale Steyn. Greatest bowler ever in my opinion. What he can do on a dead pitch vs AtG batting sides with zero help is simply mind-blowing.
PakPassion.net: How will cricket landscape look like 10 years from now?
tyron_woodley: I addresses this issue before. I believe the toss issue would be fixed and we will be playing more day and night tests. I see more players off late using test cricket as a stepping stone for an IPL contract or PSL/BBL etc. financial incentives will be provided to ensure players prioritize tests as the premier format. Rules will be changed to ensure only the top performers in test get an opportunity to play for a rewarding t20 contract and represent the nation in the odi format.
PakPassion.net: Does the current Indian pace attack have it in them to become one of the ATG bowling attacks? How far can they go in the coming future?
tyron_woodley: Yes they can be however Shami is ageing. Sharma has about 4 years left. Bumrah can become a serious ATG if he remains injury-free.
If all the Indian bowlers are fully fit and well-rested, they are capable of wreaking havoc away from home again.

tyron_woodley: Best - winning Test series in Australia
Worst - losing 3 straight series in Test.
India have toured Australia many times and came close especially in 02 and 08 but failed to come away with a series win which evaded us for so long. India finally managed to become the first Asian nation to win in Australia. A very proud moment for Indian fans. Better than a World cup win in my opinion.
Even in the 80s and early 90s vs a weakened Australia, India often got decimated due to a lack of depth in fast bowling. Post-2008 is when India developed a true fast bowling culture and it’s paid dividends in the 2010 decade.
Worst loss ever as a fan of India was the 2011 - 2012 season. Absolutely terrible. India lost 4 0 to England, 4 0 vs Australia and to round it off we lost 1 zero to NZ
I feel like the world cup jubilations may have contributed to India’s downfall in tests as they focused entirely on the shorter formats. India also played an ageing side during those 2 years when we got pummelled.
PakPassion.net: Who is your favorite Pakistani fast-bowler (ever)?
tyron_woodley: Shoaib easily. At his best he was unplayable. Shoaib was a special bowler. He had many physical deficiencies and yet he still managed to overcome the odds and deliver for his country. It’s a magnificent story. He had Crocked knees, broken ankles, ACL surgeries and yet he bowled his heart out at express pace. Not only was he express pace, he actually was the fastest man alive and his record is yet to beaten. He was the showman and he is the type of player than can take the pitch out of the equation. Too bad his career was hampered by injuries and was abruptly cut short. Had Akmal been a good wicket-keeper, Shoaib’s average may actually be a lot lower than 25. He was a far superior player compared to Waqar.
PakPassion.net: A bowling line up of Wasim Akram, Glenn McGrath, Warne and Muralitharan. Who would you choose to bat for you against them in Test and ODI cricket - Sachin or Lara?
tyron_woodley: Sachin has a better record overall. Sachin is the better player of spin and pace.
Sacchhu is the better technician and dare I say also the better overall power game. Sachin however had the benefit of playing alongside several ATGs in batting. Lara didnt.
In saying that, from a technical perspective and ability to maintain consistency I would have to choose Sachin as he dominated over 2 different eras. Sachin had no real glaring holes in his game apart from the odd in swinger. Lara had a tendency to get out to a good bouncer.
PakPassion.net: Do you like the hype around average cricketers like Pant and Pandya?
tyron_woodley: No. I despise Pant but he is definitely talented. He is wildly inconsistent though. he performed in Australia against their best attack. Pandya has his role tbh. He is handy in ODI, a player who adds balance but he is no CDG let alone Stokes.

tyron_woodley: Tests - India
ODI - very tough but I pick England. England or India.
T20 - not even sure to be honest. in terms of overall wins probably England or India again.
Stats clearly show that India has dominated in ODI and Tests. England had a brief period of resurgence but they were quickly dismantled as soon as India discarded the oldies from the team.
In ODI I give it to England due to their attractive style of play. They dint quite reach Dhoni’s Indian side as Dhoni’s team won the world cup and champions trophy back to back along with 2 semi-final appearances in the WC tournaments that followed.
t20 is really debatable. I don’t think there is any one particularly great team however England, India and Pakistan all had varied level of success. So each team could make a case of their own for that coveted number 1 team of the decade spot.

tyron_woodley: It’s based who generates the most views. Who is the best at selling their product. Who is the most marketable team. Who draws the most audience. it’s unfair yes but that’s how pay per view distribution model works. The most marketable team will always generate more revenue hence the discrepancy between the big 3 vs the rest.

tyron_woodley: Shoaib Akhtar bowling bouncers at Ricky and Australia in 2002. What a performance vs an ATG ODI team away from home. Shoaib peaked in that series.

Australia - Smith
Pakistan - Wahab Riaz
Kohli is the undisputed greatest player of the modern era across formats. Smith is the best player in tests but Kohli is the better player if you factor in all 3 formats. Kohli reminds me of C.Ronaldo. He was not as gifted as Smith. He isn’t as technically adept asSmith but he has proved with time, dedication and hard work anything is possible in life. He is a testament to this old adage ‘if you fail, try try again till you succeed’.
Smith obviously is the more technically gifted player albeit with a very awkward and gangly batting style. Smith is a freak. He has no quit in him. He is like Messi. I do believe if Kohli focused entirely on the test format he can match Smith’s level however Kohli is a superstar hence he is required to participate and perform in all formats. He attracts bigger crowds and brings a more casual audience to cricket, so unfortunately in his case, he has split his workload to accommodate for all 3 formats. In saying that Smith is the best batsman I have ever seen.
Riaz is one of my favourites of Pakistan due to his old exploits. He is an underrated player. Yes, his average is pretty poor in tests and his ODI bowling average is nothing to gloat about either but his performances in crucial tournaments especially the world cup, champions trophy etc has been astonishingly top class. He is willing to sacrifice his body for his country on the pitch. I like his never say die attitude. He reminds me a little of Shoaib. Definitely still amongst the fastest bowlers at present.
