Mentally, this Pakistan side is not in the right space

There have been two instances in this T20 game of fielders not going for a catch and not even calling for it. When the lack of communication is so severe, there is something deeper that is affecting the players. It is a mental issue.

They were shambolic in the field today.

We are just not good enough. Not talented enough and not skilled enough.

Pakistani bowlers and batsmen lack basic game awareness. U had shaheen get a wicket off a slower ball and then immediatly after he bowls two speedy half vollies blasted for 4. Yesterday haider came looking to slog everything and got out after hitting a six. Lets not even talk about the poor feilding. The rizwan, faheem catch is a clear example of no coordination.

Sometimes the players aren’t mentally there, sometimes it’s the coaches, sometimes it is just bad luck, sometimes it is biased umpiring.

We will look at every possibility and every excuse under the sun but we will refuse to entertain the possibility that maybe, just maybe, the players are not good enough and they are not the the players we think they are and are not going to have the careers we are fantasizing and envisioning in our heads.

I agree that they are not good enough. But I don't think they are bad enough to drop absolute dollies one after the other, not go for catches or not call for catches. If it was one game, I would understand. But this has happened all series.

We have a history of being a poor fielding side. This isn't a mental issue. It's a quality issue and a poor attitude towards fielding. Whatever training we are doing on fielding, it is not working.

A long period of quarantine and little time to prepare shows that the series was always going to be bent heavily towards New Zealand. Fielding and dropped catches are a point to note, because we could have won the series had we saved some crucial runs and pouched some important catches. Almost all teams right now are in a poor state of fielding. You need not look far in Australia to see the sitters that India and Australia are dropping. New Zealand also dropped a few chances. All teams are in this state, but Pakistan's is worse given our already poor fielding record. Seriously need a fielding coach like Jonty Rhodes.
