Mickey Arthur keen to coach Pakistan after the World Cup

Mickey Arthur'c contract as Head Coach is up until this year's Worlld Cup.

There's a lot of stuff in the media, some which is dreams, some true and some partially true.

So I asked Mickey if he wants to continue coaching Pakistan after the World Cup.

His response "I have always said that I would like to stay on as Pakistan Head Coach".

Thoughts?

Should he stay on? Should his contract be extended? Does it all depend on the World Cup?
 
It is totally dependent on the WC performance, minimum requirement for him to stay is if we make the Semi-Finals.
 
Although he has added much needed professionalism and has considerably raised the fitness/fielding standards...I feel that he has not been able to evolve the batting the way I would like to see it. Pakistan are not playing fearless cricket like England, New Zealand, Australia,South Africa and India. Too many players much more concerned with getting their 50 or 100 instead of looking to achieve a dominating innings, at least at a run a ball.

Pakistan could do well with an English county coach.
 
Needs to re-evaluate his coaching.

Also needs to think about the spinners strategy.

But he is the only one who can get the best of our players.

So, I hope he stays.
 
I would like a replacement. Don’t like his demeanor and his condescending attitude towards players. KP is right - it cannot be good for a dressing room to have a guy going crazy everytime a wicket falls or something like that. Not great for morale. He has fulfilled his purpose. Time to find someone new, who would also engage more with domestic cricket and not just do the first XI and the PSL. Whatever Arthur has done in terms of fitness, it definitely hasn’t seeped into first class cricket. I know this will take time, but also more engagement at lower levels. But mainly, I don’t like how he shouts and gets angry for the camera all the time.
 
Coaches in Cricket are overrated. We are obsessed with changing coaches thinking it will make us the best team in the world. No it won't.
 
I don’t think he will survive if we miss out on the semifinals, although he would still like to remind us that we are a proud team that hates losing.

Mamoon we will still be loaing whether he is here or not,As you always say this is mediocre bunch of crickters and you cant do much.

Also x batsman is the best thing since sliced bread and x bowler is the second coming of Glenn McGrath.
 
He is useless

No surprise he wants to stay. Keep collecting the easy check and taking Pakistani People for suckers
 
He shouldn’t be the coach, rather PCB should look to utilise him as director cricket or head of NCA.... such roles.
 
He is a mediocre coach, coaching SA where he knew the culture, conditions and players well was his peak. Wasnt able to translate that performance anywhere even with domestic and league teams.
 
Much depends on the outcome of the World Cup and what the alternatives are.

If the alternative is a third term of Waqar or someone like Moin Khan then Mickey should stay.
 
I would really like to see Dean Jones coach Pakistan once. If mickey is going to be sacked, I hope Jones is his replacement.
 
He is still a lot better than the local options. Is there any other foreign option?

Consistency is better than having to start all over. What has rebuilding ever brought us?
 
I'd prefer to get rid of Safaraz, Grant Flower and Inzi before we discuss Mickey Arthur.

That comes from a strong domestic structure + professional training at NCA... The hitters from the pak cup were khushdil shah who was a complete legside hack and players like salman butt, kamran akmal still play domestics and players like hafeez and malik still play for the int'l... that is how it is in pak, to me mickey has done exceptionally well to build the first three with Imam, Fakhar and Babar + if he can add Haris to the mix as no.4 he has covered the batting unit with some sort of reliability as before pak used to avg 30ish players in the top 4...

there is no stoinis, hardik, stokes waiting in the domestics to fill in the role of dynamic hitting..

that is what i say when someone says Inzi has to replaced..

If replacement is moin khan or mohsin khan then let Inzi stay

on coaching if the replacement is Waqar, Moin or Mohsin then let Mickey stay..
 
I think he should leave , Pakistan need to change coach and captain . New fresh ideas required .

Along with Mickey , batting and bowling coaches should also go.

we've been saying that since 2007, nothing major will happen.

this team will always be a number 6/7 ranked team.
 
Mickey is a good coach who's instilled a proper work ethic and focus on fitness (still a ways to go) that we did not seem remotely close to a decade ago. His headmaster style of coaching works well with a team where there isn't really a nucleus of established egos. We have problems but Mickey isn't one of them.
 
He definitely needs to stay. If anything we need to get rid of Azhar and Grant Flower! Our overall attitude towards the game has improved, our bowling esp has regressed under Azhar
 
If Pakistan goes out in group stage, his career is over.
 
If we don’t get to the semis, he will be blamed by the media and lose his job. I like him but he has made some weird decisions at times.
 
Mickey should stay on. But it will all go down to how Pakistan performs at the WC

If we reach the semis with a good tournament then he has a good case to stay. However, even then i think he needs to change his backroom staff and change the batting and bowling coach.

If the team doesnt reaches the semis, i would like to see Dean Jones finally getting the job.
 
His acting is more convincing than his coaching. He is a clueless coach and don't have the eye for talent and don't have any understanding about pitch condition. Him and Inzi are like to relax on close eyes and select players from same same bunch of groups. But great future for Micky's career on acting and Inzi's career as politician are awaiting. As a cricketing matter both are failed.

Sometimes money isnt the only motivation. I find that kind of thinking very shallow as really both passion and money go hand in hand.

Mickey has a vision which keeps him going.

I have to say, in 2019, he has shown more acting skills than coaching skills but i still consider him as one of our best coaches.
 
He needs to learn to use spinners when the conditions ask for it.
 
People have had a problem with each and every one of the last 3 coaches we’ve had.

Mickey, Waqar, Dav.

After a certain point you’d think it’d be time to clean up the system from the bottom up back home rather than blame the guy in charge of grown men every time, who are the product of said backward system.

He’s not going to sit Sarfraz down and tell him beta, it’s time to stop, or teach Malik or Hafeez how to play swing, there’s some things you learn in your formative years in youth, not much a national team coach can teach you when you’re in your mid 20s / early 30s and have been a mediocre cricketer all of your life.
 
Micky is great on technicalities - fitness, fielding, processes, discipline, grooming.

Unfortunately he lacks one major trait - a winning mindset.

Pakistan has lost too many decisive moments in his tenure - and the team as a result is mid table.

He has also shown no inclination in getting involved in domestic cricket - which would have been a great chance to build his legacy.

After World Cup, a fresh start is needed.
 
I have lost interest in these changes. It will make no difference if Mickey stays as coach or Waqar comes back. This team is just not good enough to compete with the likes of India, England, etc.
 
What should be future for Mickey Arthur with team Pakistan?

So according to him he would love to carry on with Pakistan team for another 2 years but pcb will take the final decision after reviewing team world cup and overall performances
 
Booted out before the sun sets on today. Coming 5th in a WC is not an achievement for Pak. All three architects Sarfaraz, Inzi and Mickey need to resign or be kicked out.
 
I think he should persist.. He has built a nice foundation for this new team and did all the hard work to build this young team.. Only thing we need to get rid of is Malik and Hafeez and need to find a replacement for Sarfraz and we're good to go...
 
Its time to go, the fact you had 2 years and you build a team who gets smacked everywhere, and then last minute you drop shinwari, faheem, yasir, junaid. and bring in replacements and then somehow pull a miracle out for you and save face. Not to say he hasn't done good. The fitness, ground fielding regime, and team bonding he has instilled within the culture is impressive.
 
If his replacement is some one like moin khan or mohsin hasan khan then i will persist with him
 
Should stay for two more years at least. Chopping coaches won’t make a difference.
 
Needs to go, his tactics especiall regarding spin are awful. (3 pacers in UAE smh)

Yep. Need a fresh start to build for 2023.

On a side note, it is crazy to see you use those words for Sarfraz:inti
 
Tough call. We have a lot of changes coming up in the squad + management. Changing every single one will throw the team in a limbo.
They should start by fixing the obvious first: old hacks who failed yet again - Malik, Hafeez, and Sarfaraz.
 
He did some good things but made some tactical blunders aswell like not developing a genuine off spinner which costed us our UAE dominance. I think it's time for a fresh start, we need someone stern like Mickey though.
 
Coming 5th is no achievement also its again individual brilliance more than planning but shouldn’t be replaced by any Pakistani coach.

Abdur Rehman is a fine coach who has worked hard and has demonstrated his quality. I think he should get an opportunity. Although if we are to continue with mediocre and arrogant players like Shadab, Faheem Ashraf etc then it does not matter who is coach.
 
Too early to say. I think Wasim Khan may want to make changes to the national team set-up. Personally, I'd extend him to the T20 WC.

According to a column published in Cricket Pakistan, Arthur made the request on August 2 during a PCB cricket committee meeting.

Besides, he also proposed appointing a Pakistani national as his assistant coach.

The PCB is in discussion with the senior cricketers over Arthur’s request.

Several senior Pakistani cricketers are not happy with Arthur’s performance as they believe the coach failed to bail the team out of difficult situations.

The players themselves are too busy eating burgers, biryanis and niharis - then they blame the coach for bailing the team out of difficult situations.

Rotten mentality, if the above article is true.
