Pakistan coach Mickey Arthur has received an official warning and one demerit point for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the third day’s play in the first Test, which South Africa won by six wickets at Centurion on Friday.

Arthur was found to have violated Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match”.

The incident happened in the ninth over of South Africa’s second innings when Arthur, after TV umpire Joel Wilson had decided in favour of Dean Elgar, entered the TV umpire’s room and showed dissent at Mr Wilson’s decision by first questioning him and then storming out of the room.

After the match, the Pakistan coach admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by match referee David Boon. As such, there was no need for a formal hearing.

The charge was laid by third umpire Joel Wilson.

Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points.

NOTES

o When a player or a player support personnel reaches four or more demerit points within a 24-month period, they are converted into suspension points and a player/player support personnel is banned

o Two suspension points equate to a ban from one Test or two ODIs or two T20Is, whatever comes first for the player

o Demerit Points to remain on a player or player support personnel’s disciplinary record for a period of twenty-four (24) months from their imposition following which they will be expunged

Mickey has received a demerit point for fighting with 3rd umpire.

Good to see him do that. The umpire was wrong there. He should have asked for a side on view to see if Azhar had fingers under the ball before it touched ground. He didn’t, so he can’t say with absolute certainty that Azhar grassed it. Poor understanding of the laws by the ump

Apparently the umpire has access to more angles than what is broadcast for the viewers.

Not sure why, if that's the case.

Mickey lives each ball with the players...
Shows passion and heart and cares when he feels an injustice has been done..

I am guessing a certain bunch of journos will be doing bhangra all night after this!

Sadly for them, almost all the reaction I am seeing on social media about this has been positive. People are happy that Mickey is standing up for his team.

The talkers are becoming irrelevant. As cricket continues to professionalise in Pakistan (insha'Allah), they will fade away.

It was a poor decision from the 3rd umpire and I can understand Mickey's frustrations.

Whether you are a MA supporter or not, you gotta admire Mickeys passion for Pakistan cricket. He really wants them to do well. He displays more passion than Sarfaraz, Azhar, Shafiq combined.

If certain moments went in Pakistan's favor, Saffers would have been 16/3 in the 4th innings. No wonder Mickey was upset.

Mickey is a very passionate and a disciplined man, he always wears his heart on the sleeve no matter what. I can still recall, how excited he was in the last over of the famous RSA vs AUS odi thriller in 2006. These kind of coaches are rare in cricket. Pakistan is damn lucky to have him as a coach.

Mickey is the only person who showed some emotions for Pak team and was upset on umpires decision. Other like selectors and " seniors" were so numb and insensitive and for them losing a test was not a big deal, did not show any fighting spirit.

He must have been mad after seeing Fakhar Zaman drop a dolly and then Elgar unfairly repeieved by the 3rd umpire. Match was over right there.

Mickey Arthur actually appears to care more for Pakistan cricket than Sarfraz, Azhar or Shafiq.

Good for him!

You can see that Mickey loves his team. Pretty evident seeing his passion.

So.... When kohli shows frustration, he's spoiled beat and doesn't respect spirit of the game even if it means umpire was wrong.

But when someone from dressing of room of Pakistan does it, it's out of pure passion.

Have to love this double standard.

When was Kohli last punished by the ICC?

Kohli does it repeatedly which makes his case different.
