Have had a few interns working with us over the last few weeks, and i was talking with them about career aspirations and it took me back to when i was a teen.

if someone had asked me in my teens, all i wanted to be was a car designer. i even had my own website where i uploaded drawings and designs, and it had 4000 views, and this was in pre social media days.

as it happens i gave up on that dream in my late teens, and ended up in finance.

what was the dream for u guys when u were young? and did u achieve it?

Stock Broker

Though ended up in IT, but now I get to trade stocks/commodities via online. So worked out in the end!

To play football for Liverpool FC, win the Champions League. Not only because I loved football but because we hadnt won the league or European cup for years. Thankfully Jurgen Klopp arrived.

I think its more relevlent for young kids today to consider how their life will be in 20 years. Not good, so dream of a peaceful ,just and kind world. Sadly this dream is a mere dream which is unlikely to come true for them.

I am almost 32 now.

I wanted to be a cricket player when I was a kid. I had that dream for almost 18 years.

It was after I reached age of 25, I realized I was terrible at cricket and I should focus on more realistic dreams.

I wanted to be in the aviation industry. I love flying and going to airports.

But i didnt study science and was a business/economics student. Ended up graduating with a bba degree with majors in marketing and going for entery level digital marketing position.... Havent really found the passion for it.

I wish there were career oppurtunities and growth for business students to work in aviation industry or airport in one way or another :))

In future might go for teaching. I really love economics and the theories but there isnt much in it

Same bro, but in my case, i just got bored. Playing a club match for 8 hours and just fielding whole day..

My club was also a joke aswell

I was not very ambitious during teenage, didn't wanted to be anything, I used to think life is really longggggg. Other teenage stuff was on my mind - always horny and looking to get laid, searching for new experiences, travelling. I did a lot of stupid stuff. Thing I was most passionate about was benchmarking PC components as I have geeking out tendencies. I have topped the 3D mark charts among Indian contenders.

Years passed by so quickly and I under achieved academically.

I only started to get serious after the age of 27. I fell in love with camera gear, all I want to do all the time is filming and photographing. Any job feels soul sucking to me right now.

I was living in university residence then. I was also part of a cricket club.

My university was outside of Toronto. I remember I once paid $100+ for ticket just to come to Toronto and attend my club's practice session. LOL. Looking back, that was silly.

I wasted a lot of money and time for cricket. I should've given up earlier.

Fighter pilot, of what in those days way called the MRCA and later the Panavia Tornado.

I am 33 now and had IPL was there when I was a teenager, I would have tried to become a cricketer due to the money factor. You don't have to be good enough to play for national side...just a simple contract in IPL can make you rich. I used to be a mystery spinner as a child with brilliant doosra...so maybe there was a potential :P

Hi :)

As usual, you don't have much of a clue about what you're talking about.

Have you ever played fun cricket with even a state cricketer?

You should.

It will show you the huge gap that exists between reality and what you think you can figure out from watching TV.

I've played tennis-ball cricket with Javagal Srinath who was one of the worst batsmen to ever be a proud tailender. I was an average batsman in my school team who just about managed to hold onto my place. My school teams were pretty decent with the occasional spectacular player who went on to represent India - Dravid, Uthappa, Mayank and recently Padikkal. My point is, the two schools I played for used to clean up any available tournament in my city between themselves. So the standard was well above average. But playing street cricket with Srinath showed me the massive gulf that exists. And I'm talking about his batting skills. I've also played a fun match where the best bowler of our times who still plays clubs, bowled to Uthappa when he had already played for India and the level he'd gone to was something to behold.

To the answer the OP, always felt I'd become a director. For some reason I thought it was just about having a story and getting people to act. But once I started doing some work related to films and began to see the work they do and the skills they need, I realized I was better off watching movies :)

Duh...what a poor post as always :91:

OP asked what you dreamt of as a teenager. I wanted to become a cricketer...just like one poster said he wanted to play for Liverpool. So what is wrong? No one sees dreams thinking about technicalities you mentioned.

Not sure about J Srinath but I can still own you in cricket field..anyday...everyday. Next time I come to Bengaluru, lets have a match :P

Wanted to be a journalist in early teen age. By late teen age wanted to be a mathematician. But during my graduation found maths to be too tough. So ended up being in computer science.

im trying to learn how to code to complement my skillset since there seems to be growing core requirement for coding skills in so many finance fields, i did a few simple python projects like games, i signed on to cs50, half way thorugh it and finding it quite tough, lol, but glad im learning abot C too.

any tips or tricks for someone looking to learn coiding, not as a career, but as a complimentary skill to their core competencies?

I think I wanted to be a writer, make it to Team GB boxing team or play professional cricket, but at the same time I had the boyhood dream to be a rocket scientist which I fulfilled thanks to God

A reluctance to comprehend and diversion. Your political habits are spilling over.

The point wasn't about dreaming big or fanciful. The point was about your casual statement of making it into an IPL team on a life-changing contract. And the suggestion that this doesn't require much talent.

Not sure about J Srinath but I can still own you in cricket field..anyday...everyday.

More of the same of-political-origin blind confidence :warner
