Truth be told, as expected, we lost the ODI series. Every time, I watch ex cricketers analysis, it is confusing, misleading and lacks analysis, which they are doing. Its a pattern. We have entered in a state where analysts , ex-cricketers discuss numbers, make bias based on that. Why this is keep on happening that we lose games against challenging scenarios or against challenging oppositions[Please do not include CT win for the sake of counter point, this post is for root cause analysis]

Scenario : I am Mike Hesson, coach of NZ armed with best team analysts, a team of professional athletes, and a great support staff. I have to beat Pakistan, what shall I be doing.

a) Asking curators / NZC to give us helpful conditions

b) Sitting with video analysts , statisticians to find out who are the players to target, what are their weaknesses. How they performed recently. By performance, does not mean going by numbers, get out those videos. Ok, so Hafeez struggled against moving ball, wow, in his innings of 78 against Bangladesh, he offered chances at slips, 2 went down by slip fielder. He struggled against bouncer, but Bangladesh didn't use bouncers to make him. uncomfortable. He is the same guy 15 years ago, same old weaknesses, reduced reflexes. We will make him earn each and every single run. Attack him around the rib-cage.

.. and so on finding the weaknesses of players, expose them to humiliate them.

Scenario : Mickey Arthur.

While I was away on holidays, I demanded 5 genuine pacers, but selector has given me 3, in addition, he gave me few passengers as well. Tough task is to make good out of nothing. I lost interest in my job.

Also, there is no point telling Hafeez, Malik how to tackle bouncers. They have been around in this team for almost 2 decades, even before I started my coaching career. If they are good enough they will handle it; if they are not, no body can't teach 38 years oldies how to bat. They have toured NZ 10-15 times in their career, their scope is defined, I can't do much.

Over and above, someone from PCB ranged me last night and ordered me to not disturb the losing formula i.e, I can't make changes or try anything new.

I shall ask Grant Flower, why we are failing as a batting unit:

Mickey : Again, we failed , you bad old teacher
Grant : That was expected
Mickey : And you went to the pressers and said that nonsense
Grant : I told you, we need young legs, you keep bringing these non doers back and again. what should I do with them. They have not learnt playing bouncers in last 20 years, what you want from me miracle! I can't turn donkey to a horse.
Mickey : Hell you! Do I have to tell you what you should do
Grant : I asked senior citizens that we can discuss, why we are having problems, and they told me that they have enough experience and can handle on their own. Plus they skipped the net session, and went to buy some fruits for themselves.
Mickey : What about captain cool
Grant : He was busy practicing English with team manager!

We lose when we become predictable

Most great modern teams, NZ/AUS/IND/SAF/ENG are methodical in their approach to each and every game they play. They find weaknesses of players and expose their weaknesses to humiliate and defeat us.

"After beating India, Indian team manager said, we didn't know much about Fakhar, Hassan, Shadab, Babar, and even Amir at that time (as he was coming back from lay off, and he thought he wasn't even half of what he was earlier), although, we had plans against Hafeez, Malik, Sarfaraz, etc."

Point is ..Best way to win important series or multi national tournaments:

Throw in good , skillful , courageous youngsters until they fail or become seniors. That is what we did in

1992 : Inzi, Moin, Mushy, etc.
2007 : Tanvir made an impact, emergence of Umar Gul, as death bowler
2009 : comeback of razzaq, Amir, introduction of Ajmal
2011 : Umar Akmal, Shafiq
2012 India series : Nasir Jamshed, Junaid Khan, Md. Irfan
2013 Sa series : Ahmed Shehzad, Bhatti, Anwer Ali
2017 CT : Zaman, Shadab Khan, Hassan Ali,etc.

It's clear that youth is the way forward. Need some young guns such as Talat and Farhan to have a good PSL.

Mickey Arthur's lack of comments regarding this series have been disappointing.

Seems this time he was given a team and he can't do much, unlike, CT where he has taken all the good, bad and ugly decisions.
