PCB Chairman speaking to the press:

"There will be a ceremony for Misbah's farewell and he will be given honours but fact is his services for Pakistan cricket are tremendous "

"His behavior with players and the manner in which he dealt with them was crucial (to his success)"

"He recieved praise from all quarters even after tour of Australia where we lost, their chairman wrote to me to say that regardless of the result the behavior of your team was impeccable"

"It is from Misbah's leadership that his team take inspiration for such behaviour and it is due to him that the team feels they are true ambassadors of Pakistan"

Wow, those are some big words from the Australian chairman.

This goes on to show the affect Misbah had that many don't realize.

Also this Farewell will be a slap on the faces of Shoaib Akhtar, Mohammad Yousuf, Abdul Razzaq and Afridi. All these guys talk about how they did an ehsan for playing for Pakistan, but yet they never managed to behave. ANd some of them sit on tv and criticize the national team captain all the time. They all cry that they were not given due respect or farewells, but for what for should they be given farewells? All Afridi and Akhtar did was bring bad name for our country, and Yousuf And Razzaq had such big egos that they wouldn't even play first class cricket, but yet they sit on tv and criticize those guys who are actually committed to the game.

Misbah is a true ambassador of the game. The guy even went on to play Grade 2 cricket just to get his region qualified for first Class and he actually ended up doing it.
This shows his commitment to cricket. I believe that if you give this much commitment to something with a pure heart, then Allah will obviously help you out, and Misbah has always had Gods blessing with him.

Alot of our players and even greats never valued or bothered to play first class cricket once they ended up with the national cap. Many of the fans would feel proud about this, but is this really something to be proud of?

Fans should know that Misbah's playing of domestic cricket was the reason why Shadab got selected to Islamabad United then to Pakistan Cricket.
Misbah's playing of a grade 2 tournament is the reason why Abbas is in the test team now.

For those who do not know
Grade 2 is the lowest standard cricket for professional cricketers. Its a tournament where amateurs and struggling first class players play just to get into first class cricket.

People say that Younis has a very big heart, but to me Younis is all talks, Misbah is way ahead of him.

Misbah would probably even play club cricket if he wanted. Thats how down to earth this guy was, no ego what so ever.
Our first class cricketers who only play 10 matches end up developing big egos.

Misbah's biggest commitment for Pakistan cricket was that he became the punching bag and took in the criticism, but he NEVER responded back because he knew that even though his response would had made him feel better, but it would had bring a negative attention over his team. Thus this guy actually led this team like a true captain, as if the team was very personal to him, the captaincy was personal to him.

you should read the ops 3rd bullet

Actually it is quite embarrassing to read, and just shows how bad our reputation is in spite of 7 controversy-free years. It seems like no one expects good behaviour from our players and have to send letters of appreciation when our players do what they are supposed to do, i.e act decently.

POTW. POTW. POTW. A huge part of me still wants Misbah in the team because I know he's still better than most guys we have but I guess, he must retire now to "secure" his legacy.. His void will only be felt once he's gone.

Not a Misbah fan, but I can't deny whatever you [Major] just said there. Misbah was top class from a personality, behavior, ego point of view... Very Non-Pakistani when compared to the Afridis, Shahzads, Etc.

Just for this bit you deserve POTW. Truly describes the man. Feel proud calling him Kaptaan. He put the team before himself and became the punching bag for the progress of the team. He is one of the greatest captains to have played the game, if not the greatest. And an equally good player. Hundreds of rescue missions by him and maintaining an average of close to 50 throughout his career. Backing him to get a triple ton in the WI and get the final hurrah!

You seriously don't remember the infamous 2009-2010 series?

THe last time Pakistan toured Australia for a full series was in 2009-2010 and the following controversies happened

1)Shahid Afridi ball tempering by biting the ball
2)Speculations regarding a power struggle between Mohammad Yousuf, Younis Khan and Shoaib Malik.
3)Rana Naved was also banned for his involvement.
4) Umar Akmal saab faking an injury

though i don.t like some of his decisons but after all he is the pure professional crickter we have ..he plays all sort of domestic cricket and 100% comitted to his job..his services to pakistan cricket are huge and yess a clear lesson for AFRIDI to learn.!

anyone else having great difficulty taking the word 'tremendous' seriously anymore?

back to the OP, there can be no doubting what Misbah give to Pakistan test cricket. His legacy overall is soured by limited over performances, but taken as a whole he did have a positive affect on Pak cricket, which cant be said of most in the recent past.

He has been a brilliant Test captain for Pakistan and brought calmness to the team when it mattered the most.

So getting a bunch of men to behave is a tremendous achievement?

"There will be a ceremony for Misbah's farewell and he will be given honours but fact is his services for Pakistan cricket are tremendous "

Lol, Afridi will be furious.

if you have sat with these cricketers you would know.

The thinking of an uneducated person in Pakistan is way different then the thinking of some Canadian or Australian athlete.

Atleast Australia grooms the players properly who come from the country side. Read Mcgrath story of how he was groomed. But in Pakistan its much different. The young adults that arn't educated but end up playing cricket arn't well groomed. I play in the same club as the current Pakistan u19 captain, and trust me, the guy needs alot of grooming. But they won't get the required grooming, they will perform, and they would be thrown in to national teams in no time, and when these guys mess up then everyone asks where did everything went wrong.

I play club cricket with the rawalpindi lads, and met some of the youngsters like Shadab and others, and they really do need grooming in understanding the proper way of behaving in different situations.

So getting a bunch of men to behave is a tremendous achievement?

If they play for the Pakistan Cricket team, it is a big achievement. Anyone who has followed Pakistan cricket since the early 90's should know this.

I don't consider it a tremendous achievement. I'm confident he wouldn't be able to control the 90s and 2000s bunch. He was basically captaining handpicked clones of himself.

Well ofcourse, if we are just blindly speculating. I would say Pakistan would have won a lot more in the 90s-2000s if they had a leader like Misbah and not the sell outs.
