Probables for Sri Lanka series announced

Lahore, 16 September 2019:

Head coach and chief selector Misbah-ul-Haq has named 20 probables for the training camp, which will commence at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore from Wednesday, 18 September.

The camp is being set-up to prepare the side for the upcoming ODI and T20I series against Sri Lanka, which will be held from 27 September to 9 October.

On Saturday, 21 September, at 11.30am at the Far End, Gaddafi Stadium, Misbah-ul-Haq will announce the two squads. The ODI side will move to Karachi on 24 September, where the first ODI will be played on 27 September.

Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik have not been named in the probables as they have been granted NOC until 12 October to participate in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

Probables (in alphabetical order, domestic teams in brackets):

Sarfaraz Ahmed (captain) (Sindh), Babar Azam (vice-captain) (Central Punjab), Abid Ali (Sindh), Ahmed Shehzad (Central Punjab), Asif Ali (Northern), Faheem Ashraf (Central Punjab), Fakhar Zaman (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), Haris Sohail (Balochistan), Hasan Ali (Central Punjab), Iftikhar Ahmed (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), Imad Wasim (Northern), Imam-ul-Haq (Balochistan), Mohammad Amir (Northern), Mohammad Hasnain (Sindh), Mohammad Nawaz (Northern), Mohammad Rizwan (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), Shadab Khan (Northern), Umar Akmal (Central Punjab), Usman Shinwari (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) and Wahab Riaz (Southern Punjab).

Meanwhile, the PCB has appointed team management for the Sri Lanka and Australia series, which is:

Misbah-ul-Haq (Head Coach and Chief Selector); Mansoor Rana (Team Operations, Logistics & Administrative Manager), Waqar Younis (Bowling Coach), Grant Bradburn (Fielding Coach), Shahid Aslam (Assistant to Head coach on cricket), Cliffe Deacon (Physiotherapist), Yasir Malik (Trainer), Maj (retd) Azhar Arif (Security Manager - for Sri Lanka series), Col (retd) Usman Anwari (Security Manager - for Australia tour), Raza Kitchlew (Team Media Manager), Talha Butt (Team Analyst) and Malang Ali (Masseur).

Don't mind Umar Akmal but Ahmed Shehzad needs to stay away
 
Why is Iftikhar there. Also what is the need to persist with Shehzad and Akmal when we have found better alternatives. How has Hasan Ali managed to stay despite a rubbish world cup.

I would rather have Yamin in place of Faheem.

Can't wait to see the likes of Rahat, Sohail Khan and Imran Khan opening the bowling in Australia.
 
Iftikhar ahmed ,ahmed shehzad and umar akmal ,fahim ashraf is pathetic selection.
 
I told you guys on here doing bhangra when Inzi didn't get renewed that it was a bad blow. I was saying at the time the next selector would be 100x worse than him and surprise surprise, I was correct again. Some people never learn.

Inzamam made 1 or 2 questionable selections but other than that he was one of the better selectors we had - gave youth a chance
 
Iftikhar Ahmed is an excellent selection

Umar Akmal will be selected for T20, which I believe is a good choice. He is a good batsman for 20 to 25 balls. I'm not too sure about Ahmed Shehzad

He is better for Odi,Can be a good back up option,fit young,who knows may be he is improved crckter now.
 
Good to see Shehzad back. A fit and motivated Shehzad is better than than the fluke hack Fakhar.
 
Iftikhar's selection is justified as he performed well in domestic recently.

Umar Akmal's selection is pure nepotism.

I expected Haris Rauf and Khusdil Shah against this Srilanka B team.

Kamran Akmal deserve a place in t20 based on this PSL performance.
 
Shehzad was not too bad, and he is still young so can make a comeback. hopefully the time on the sidelines showed he was not as well revered as he first thought and he will apply himself much better this time around.
 
Usual TTF selections, no real planning for future. Some should tell misbah this is not 2013! :facepalm:
 
Ahmed Shezhad is looking fitter than ever, he is the only Pakistani cricketer who has an atheltes body.
Let's not forget he has 6 Odi centuries opening the innings and has Pakistan's only t20 hundred.
 
Shameless misbah is well on it's way to destory our cricket. Nawaz, shehzad, umer, hasan ali, faheem. RIP our cricket.

Lets also not forget a strike rate of 70 odd and average of 30 odd. Also the amount of chances he's been given.
 
So this is our Misbah. So no new players for next 36 months. Appointing Misbah will cost Wasim Khan's job in future. Any failure of Misbah will be pointed out to Wasim Khan by people like Miandad, Sarfraz.... due to his dual Citizenship.

How on earth he select Nawaz, Umar Akmal, Iftikhar and Fahim? Same goes with Sarfraz Ahmed. This guy was a failure for 2 years but keep getting selected as a captain.
 
Best part of Faheem selection is it will allow both naseem and Bashir to play remaining 3 games for CP and stake claim for Aus tour.
 
Expecting him to select Anwar Ali,Rahat Ali etc for the next series


Asad Shafiq will be tried in Odis too
 
What an absolute bomb this squad is.So excited for new beginnings.
Cant wait for all these players to cement their places by bashing SriLanka's C team and torment us for the years to come.

Couple of big blunders in there for sure..Shezad and Ifti defo shouldnt be there..but what are the ALTERNATIVES lets be honest
 
Lucky for Misbah because we may get way with SL D team. Otherwise SL would whitewash us and give Misbah some reality check. This guy is just too crook. Instead of giving new players opportunity he is helping his loyal friends.

Positives are Mohammad Hasnain and Abid Ali has been picked. Overall not a bad probable.
 
Good to see Misbah giving chances to youngsters like Iftikhar, he is 26 right, baby of the team. :dw
 
Shouldn't Shaheen be fit for the series. He already seems to have recovered decently. Usually dnegue lasts 1-2 weeks.

The camp starts in a couple of days and Shaheen didn't play in the first round of the QeA Trophy, he may not be in optimum condition just yet.

Misbah has appointed for 3 years with lots of support from former players which will bring his inner dictatorship and will select same old failures for longer time. He can get away with any failure in the name of rebuilding team for next 2 years without have any issue. He is not a foreigner and both media and former players have blind support on him.

This was expected from Misbah.
Not debuting couple of youngsters against Sri Lanka B
 
It would have been perfect time to test some youngsters like Haris Rauf, Umar Khan, Zafar Gohar and Amir Yameen instead of Nawaz, Hasan Ali, Faheem Ashraf and Imad Wasim. Even though Imad has been performing good especially with the bat they could have rested him just to test bench strength.
 
Typical Pak selection..these guys are unbelieavably predictable.
No issues with bringing the likes of Ahmed Shehzad, Iftikhar and Umar etc...they're not good enough at this level so they'll be discarded soon enough.
Hasan Ali needs a break...and Aamer Yamin should have come in for extended run, not Faheem Ashraf.
 
Just as expected Umar Akmal and Shehzad are back.

I hate Misbah with a passion now.

Look, as far as I’m concerned, Iftikhar is 28 and fit. He’s also scoring runs and performing. What’s the problem in selecting him?

Shehzad is more sound technically, has a mental block in high pressure situations. Not sure if he has made any improvement or done well in domestics, maybe he can come good this time
 
Solid squad. Cant think of better names except one or two which will come in with time.

Posters saying pathetic squad should atleast name the players which are missing and should have been there in place of whom. The pace at which some people want players discarded and new players will be given chances, i think we will keep on playing musical chairs forever.

I also want to see Haris Rauf, Umer Khan etc but they will come in with time but I am pretty sure both will be hyped and then will be criticized like no tnw after a poor season and people will start calling for their replacements. Players which needed to be removed Hafeez and Malik have been removed.

Also I think people should make peace with the fact that Iftikhar Ahmed, Asif Ali and Umar Akmal are only power players we have in the middle orders. Would love to hear names of replacements and better power hitters in Pakistan.

Very harsh on Hussain Talat to be dropped. Yes he didn’t manage to finish off those games out in SAbut you have to give a player some time to grow and learn. Nothing to gain by going back to shehzad and Umar

These are probables and final squad will be of 15 most likely. We like it or not Nawaz is the best spin bowling all rounder we have after Imad while Faheem is arguable however he is rated highly by Misbah and Waqar from IU, its its not like much better replacements are available. I would have liked to have a look at Amad Butt.

Discarding Hassan Ali after 1 or two poor seasons at the age of 25 is not something which needs to be done in my opinion however if he keeps on performing poorly it will be inevitable.

Again the question is which players should have been there instead of these 3 according to you?

Saud Sahkil for Odi,Ammad butt and Haris Rauf for t20s,Iftikhar is a hack,Khushdil was better option and he has performed,he is young with no hidden age like Ifti chacha.
 
Got to hand it to Misbah, finally bringing some drama and entertainment back into this overtly boring squad of yes men and zero personality outside of cricket.

Umar Akmal circus is the best thing ever to happen for Pakistan cricket brand since Afridi and Akhtar retired.

Certain players needed to be dropped after the WC. These players have more or less been around the squad for a while. We needed change in captaincy and players. It hasn't happened.

Saud Shakeel is no way a better spinner than Nawaz and he cant hit the ball big. He is a pretty classy batsman and I like the look of him but he doesnt have all the gears and not good enough with the ball to be called an all rounder. He can only replace Haris Sohail and if required of Babar but both are fit and in form so there is no room for him as LOI teams are formed based upon combinations. He is another consolidator which we dont need at the moment in LOIs.

Amad Butt, I agree with as I have mentioned in previous post but it isnt like he is gonna star winning matches from the word go and I am afraid he will be criticized two after 5-10 games. But, yes could have been given a go.

Haris is excellent prospect but I dont mind him playing 4 day cricket in the mean time to gain very valuable experience and become better at the skills he has. As more cricket he plays the better he will get, at the moment he is pretty new to the game. Yes could have been selected earlier this year over Hasnain but he will come in eventually.

I cant assume about the age but Iftikhar Ahmed was the best stroke maker in 2019 PSL (Anybody can see the highlights of his 2,3 innings) further he has been performing for sometime now but previously he wasnt handling the pressure well but he overcame that in this year’s PSL. Khushdil is definitely an impressive hitter but I dont mind going with Ifti, Asif and Umar at he moment.

Glad we haven't picked any tried and tested failures.

I think Haris Rauf defo should be considered in white bowl cricket after seeing Jofra Archer blossom that was a no brainer..too early fro hasnain

There is no point complain here. Because all of us except few blind people are against these selection. Why cannot you ask Misbah about this so he may feel little bit pressure to do right thing?
 
Glad to see Umar Akmal back !

Liking Misbah so far. Just need to see his strategy in ODIs.
 
When TTFs are called in SENA countries there is not much doubt coz its genuine but in South Asia we always believe its coz of bias lol, Rohit’s selection in tests is similar even more pathetic.
 
No offense but seeing so many new posters on this thread supporting UA and Shehzad , almost feels like PR posters being implanted.
 
Misbah bringing his old mates back.
Iftikhar will have free ride for at least one year.
