"Misbah bhai always says to go for 180-200 runs, he never says to make 120" : Iftikhar Ahmed

Iftikhar Ahmed at a presser:

"I was just thinking about playing positively because here in Australia, that's what you have to do"

"We have other players in the squad who can hit the ball hard as well"

"Wicket wasn't easy but I always try to be positive, I wanted to play on a ball by ball basis and whenever I could, I attacked and tried to hit boundaries. That improved my SR and helped me to make some runs"

"We were 10-15 runs short but our bowling had the ability to defend that... But this happens in cricket. Smith is a world class player, he took the match away from us"

"Misbah bhai always says to go for 180-200 runs, he never says to make 120. Misbah bhai himself is a positive person and was a positive cricketer. He always tells us to be positive and that's what we're trying to do"

"I will play according to the team's requirements and try to perform whenever I get the chance to do so"

"150 runs was enough I feel, but Smith was outstanding"

"Asian players generally play spinners quite well so we did want to attack the spinners"

"It's up to the captain and coach whether they want to make any changes, we'll try our best to level the series"

"We didn't score runs at the top, if we scored 180-200 we could have defended it"

Someone is feeling the heat if the players have to come out and say this

bhai kehna kya chahte ho?
at one point he says they wer 10 to 15 runs short.
then he says 150 was enough if not for smith.
& then "if we wouldve scored 180-200 we couldve defended".

Sharjeel Khan
Iftikhar

Hand-picked by Misbah.

Will pay dividends. More new players will also be introduced by Misbah - stay tuned.

I hope to see Bilawal Bhatti and Anwar Ali combo back. Pakistan needs fire power in the lower middle order.

I understand he was responding to questions, but I found this baffling.

As opposed to elsewhere where you have to?

"We have other players in the squad who can hit the ball hard as well"

Pity they don't seem to have other players who can, you know, score...

"Misbah bhai always says to go for 180-200 runs, he never says to make 120.

Whoever in the world accused Misbah of telling his team " Right lads let's make 120 today"?

We wanted to score 180-200...

We were 10-15 short.....

150 was enough....

Why Misbhai bhai not Misbah Sir? He is only 25 and Misbah is well over 40+... He should be fined for not respecting his elders.

Look the players who didn’t perform in the last two matches - Fakhar and Asif - are the same players who never performed during Mickey’s regime.

So, nothing new has happened.

Iftikhar has been good post-comeback and I hope he carries on batting like this.

Although I’m hugely disappointed by Haris.

He is such a classy batsman to play today’s kind of shot, it doesn’t suit him.

Irfan bowled okay today, whilst Amir was bowling like a champ. Wahab, well he was disastrous...

However I’d like to see Musa and Hasnain instead of Wahab and Irfan. There is no point in investing in these two ‘experienced” bowlers.

Pakistan really needs to find an attacking spin-bowler instead of Imad who can bowl in tandem with Shadab.

Only positive of today’s match were the fielding, running between the wickets and Ifhikhar

Our players have no communication skills and they are generally not intelligent enough to be articulate in any language. They have memorized a few buzzwords like positive cricket etc., which they plug in at different points without context.

It is not advisable to look too much into their statements. They doesn’t mean anything.

I think Misbah should realize that scoring 180-200 in T20 is not possible with Haris and Rizwan at no 3 and 4 unless Fakhar or Babar play an absolute blinder.

I dont rememeber Haris getting his team to 200 even in domestic T20s so I highly doubt he can do that at international level against Starc and Cummins.

Yeah thats why we ended up at 150. Pathetic oldie lover Misbah will drive our cricket in the ground.

Misbah can say all he wants but if he doesn't play the teams to back it up, all he will be doing is saying. It's like when he tells the team to "play aggressive cricket". Like go out there and scream and throw stuff? Can he actually tell them what it means? As opposed to what? How?

England was a good example of a complete mindset change post 2015 World Cup. They showed what they meant by an intent change on the field right after. Pakistan seems to be regressing despite saying all the right things.

Iftikhar scored runs. The articulate one's didn't score runs. Therefore they were not asked to come to the presser.

You think he decided to make that statement without being asked?

If he has been asked that, then it’s even worse. Seems like the questioner assesses Pakistan’s batting as effort to score 120 or thereabouts

with Wahab and Irfan in the bowling attack, 200 won't be enough either - if in some fictional world Misbah's Pakistan can ever reach that target

Fakhar Riwan and haris are a problem in batting. In t20 you can't carry them and expect team to win. 50 over cricket may be. Fielding was shocking. Too many camels in the field. Easy pickings for aussies. Asif on paper badshah hay...in reality he's a headless chicken...he has not won pak a single game...ugly slogger. Wahab irfan in bowling omg Misbah open your eyes mate..induct new blood..dont bench youngsters

It was indeed a Pakistani journalist who was asking him whether Misbah instructs the team to aim for 120.

Hahahahaha

Pakistan has'nt scored more than 6.5 run rate average since Misbah took over, who is this 29 year old [after removing weekends from his age] trying to fool

It’s international cricket: the Head Coach is the captain’s servant and needs to be disciplined if he is speaking about tactical matters without the captain’s permission.

It was obvious that this blurring of boundaries would happen with the stupid dual role, and it needs to be managed exactly how New Zealand managed it with Hesson and McCullum.

Misbah needs to know that his Chief Selector role ends the second that the squad is selected.

The Captain then picks his starting eleven, and can ask his servant the Head Coach for his suggestions.

The Head Coach has authority only during net sessions, in terms of who does what when and for how long.

Then, in the dressing room, the Captain enjoys total power over selection of the starting eleven, strategy and performance. And the Head Coach is his subordinate, who talks only at the captain’s invitation.

If Misbah continues this insubordination he will need to be first performance managed and then, if he doesn’t learn to accept that Babar is his boss, he needs to be terminated.

Babar Azam is pretty much carrying this batting unit on his shoulders. Fakhar Zaman not firing is a big issue because he's one of those guys who can go at a good strike rate.

I think it's high time this fauji backed hack needs to be discarded. I swear I've seen hacks who have done more be discarded permanently. Some of his dismissals make him look like a club cricketer who has no idea how to bat.

Fakhar has been poor for a while, but i think alot of it is because he is put under pressure to give pak a good start in the power play. He doesn't have a power hitting partner like shajeel who can help carry that burden. If you see australia, they have finch and warner or england they have bairstow and roy.
Either partner fakhar with q big hitter at the top of the innings, to take some of the pressure off him, or try fakhar as alower order hitter at 5 or 6.
I wouldn't want to drop fakhar without trying these two tactics, as i believe if fakhar clicks, he can be a match winner.

Obviously, its unlikely babar will be shifted to one drop, so try fakhar at 5/6 for a few games(3/4) and if he still fails, then drop him.

Moving Fakhar down the order to a powerhitting-only role could be interesting. Would Asif be in the same team then?
