If there is one way to play against Australia in Australia, then the one way to play with patience, the kind of patience we have seen from Sami Aslam uptill now.

Misbah pushed his bat away from his body against the ball and gave an easy dolly to the slips, which was very un-misbah like. A standard Misbah would had left that one and waited for the bad balls, like how Sami has been doing.

Sami has got a few bouncers, hit on the head, but he hasnt made it necessary to play it. He has waited been patient, frusturated Starc and is still standing their.

I'm surprised with what Misbah did today. He clearly played that shot without thinking of the extra bounce you get from an Australian pitch compared to a UAE which would had been a good drive their.

Even the commentators have been saying that this isnt usually what you see from Misbah ul haq, thus it was ridiculous.

Hope Misbah gets his head sorted out as this tour still has 5 more innings waiting

Misbah is 42 and his away record is iffy. Its too much to expect a lot out of him at this stage.

He wasn't beaten by the bounce, it was the outswing that did him in but yeah he shouldn't have been fishing at that.

The same ball would had been gone for a 4 in UAE, but here the extra bounce gets generated even by small margin

This has nothing to do with age or away record.

Its about taking unnecessary risks

42 means he doesnt have the reflexes to adapt. His Away record says he isnt that great a player of fast bowling. Its too much to ask for him to do all this at 42.If he was given regular chances at 24 he might have been a Pakistani ATG.

Since 2011, amongst Asian batsmen playing outside Asia, only Rahane and Sangakkara have a better average than Misbah's 46.

Should retire this test, let Sarfaraz captain and send Saud Shakeel over.

Misbah will prove his worth in the second test if not the second innings. He is the best bet we have.

He looks out of sorts, his heart doesn't seem to be in the game.

That I would agree on. Has looked so for quite some time now. Ever since the Eng Series ended. I think he's probably lost the will to play anymore? After all, he is being forced to play by PCB..

this is very Misbah like. Misbah has never done well on bouncy or tracks that are seaming a bit or when there is swing. In England we got flatter tracks and he did well. Misbahs achilles heel is bounce which shows in his poor record in S.A and AUS. i think Misbah will score one gritty fifty in this series but thats it. He's been a great servant for Pakistan cricket and is a Pakistani legend but after this series he should step down he has nothing left to prove got us to Number one after the shambles of 2010. He should ride off into the sunset and enjoy his retirement.

Lords 100.....

Misbah rarely gets caught in the slips cordon, so yes, in a way, you are right. But it has more to do with his timid body language. Had he played it confidently, it would not have been an edge.

Major Lords is traditionally one of the flatter tracks in England its not as flat as UAE but by english standards its flat. It was a low bounce track and Misbah did well. Misbah struggles on bouncy tracks.

and the other batsmen couldn't perform there? i wonder why?

Stop using excuses to downplay others

Misbah did well there he was our best batsman at Lords when did i deny that. Lords was a flat track as were most of the tracks in England which is why we as a team performed well in the series. We didnt get any greentops or seamers. Misbah did well but these tracks are a whole different kettle of fish against bounce Misbah and tbh our whole batting line up struggles. Misbahs technique isnt made for bouncy tracks.

Is Misbah mentally up to it?

Since the English summer Misbah does not look the same calm figure.I have a feeling he is burned out and wanted to leave byt stayed on at Sharyar insistance. Its sad his 6 years of stability will end at such a low note.

Biological clock is a reality, no one stays young for ever. If players like Lara, Ponting, Dravid and Kallis could not go beyond 40, Misbah is no match to them.

If Lara ponting and dravid were Pakistani they would still be playing and keeping themselves in the team through pretty 40's

Misbah was never really THAT good, and has regressed quite dramatically recently due to age.

Time to hang up the boots.

I am a Misbah fan but his time is up after this series. There is no need for him to carry on after this tour.

2010-2016 will always be remembered as a golden era for Pakistan test team. Sk needs to let him retire in peace.

You need to be proactive in Australia

Out of his depth. He's never done well on lively pitches. And he never will with his backlift.
