Shoaib Akhtar's 'analysis' on his YouTube channel about Misbah's appointment:

"Big news that Misbah has been made Chief Selector and Head Coach, I'm shocked they didn't make him the PCB Chairman also"

"Jokes aside, this is a good move and it was required. Misbah is a seasoned man and he knows about the Pakistan team and selection"

"Misbah also has an idea after being captain of where the Pakistan team needs to be"

"People ask me whether he will be a defensive coach like he used to be a defensive captain, I don't think he will be... he shouldn't be"

"It's a good idea and the benefit of keeping him there is that he knows the team and the players well"

"Results that will be produced, we will see. But the long discussion we always have about giving time - We can't give time because Pakistan is in a bad situation. They are at the bottom in Tests, they shouldn't go down more. So we don't have time now. Misbah will have to provide results in the next 4-6 months. He will need to make aggressive selections so that people know we are serious"

"The new system will have lots of flaws and we'll have to give a margin of error to the board and we'll have to give Misbah 1 or 2 series"

"Pakistan cricket has to become aggressive, we can't play with another mindset and that was never our forte"

"The cricket we have played in the last 5-10 years was never our forte and Pakistan should avoid this type of cricket so we need to see what Misbah will do"

"If Misbah isn't strong then he won't leave a legacy so he needs to make strong decisions and be firm in his decision making, and explain decisions to the media logically"

"People come and go but only those ones make a name who are strong and leave a legacy behind"

I dont think many players have issues with Misbah so not surprising.

this is where the catch is. at one side you have a brand new domestic set up, than on the other side you want results in 4-6 months,

I think the main goal should be to get the UAE record back. During the first year, we should make sure we stay undefeated. Azhar and Shafiq are great players in UAE, so there isn't need to fix that. Just need to get the right combination of spinners, thats all.
Draw is ok, but losing a series in UAE shouldnt be allowed.

I wouldnt mind losses on away series during the first year though, but it depends upon the way we perform.

THe real game isn't test here, everyone knows we will improve in that. Real game is the ODI format. We have a great top 3 batsmen, but no lower order batsmen.

It would be interesting to see who will join the middle order and whether Iftikhar will perform as a no.6 or not.

I dont see ourselves winning the first series because experimentation will be going on.

He is correct and we'll find out straight away if the likes of Hafeez and Malik remain in the side

Or the likes of shafiq and azhar return to ODI format

Them 2 were misbah golden boys and they failed for last few years

1 decent innings here and now
Both should depart

Pakistan's Test team is a shambles. It's going to take at least 12 months to start heading in the right direction.

It will take much longer than that.

Misbah is going to need 2-3 years putting everything together.

Yes agree if Misbah doesn’t deliver in a few months, then it highlights the need of the hour to have someone experienced as coach , maybe Intikhab Alam or Mushtaq Mohammed would be worth considering.

It is unrealistic to expect Misbah can fix everything in six months. The old system couldn't produce any good player or may be the good players were not selected due to nepotism. In theory the new system should produce good players provided the selectors are bold enough to give chances to young players who have the talent but need experience and support from PCB

All this dude talks about is legacy.....

someone should remind him of his...one of an underachiever

Results for me is who he selects in the squad and picks in the playing 11

I am Misbah fan, he resembles tolerance not proactiveness or aggressiveness. People might have different views, but, I would always cherish world trophy (such as CT/WC/T20 WC wins) than all these bilateral Tests in UAE.

For me seeing Mickeys back is not good. He wanted us to play in an un-pakistani way, and backed youngsters in team. With Waqar's return we will see 35+ oldie babas in team. I dont care if they win all the UAE tests in next 3 years, but they will dearly fail everything outside UAE

As much as Mickey did well in ODI's for us his obsession of playing bits and pieces players cost us.In Tests we need to comeback

The Test team is a shambles BECAUSE of Misbah. He's hardly going to fix it.

The whole model was "win in the UAE and lose overseas thanks to good spin bowling and patient flat track bullies. And it won't matter that Sarfraz and Shafiq bat with hard hands in the UAE".

Finally Mickey Arthur had worked out that there is no longer a half-decent second spinner, so the UAE model fails. And he had realized that outside Asia, Yasir Shah was a waste of space and he needed both Shadab at 7 and Faheem at 8, probably behind Rizwan as batsman-goalkeeper.

The last Test in South Africa and the first two Tests in Dublin and England proved he was right.

And now it's back to square one.

Azhar Ali was never going to play again under Mickey, and Shafiq was on his last chance. Now they will clog up the team until it is eliminated from the World Test Championship.

Sarfraz will be kept on as keeper even though his batting outside Asia is horrible.

Yasir Shah will be the first choice spinner outside Asia again, presumably to maintain his average in Australia and New Zealand of 90 runs per wicket.

Quotes from a new video of his:

"No respect to Umar Akmal and Ahmed Shehzad, what message does it give to the younger players when they are selected?"

"Imad Wasim has some issues with fitness and his knee also"

"Seems that PCB management is not happy with Imad as well (due to this)"

"Dont understand why SSA was taken to the WC, then removed and now Shinwari in his place":

"its saddening that a sword hangs on Shinwari's head all the time and Junaid Khan is not played"

"Its a huge responsibility on Misbah now - he needs to play youngsters - if not in ODIs then in T20Is as a tough tour of Australia is coming up"

"I hope that Waqar Younis will transfer the same spirit with which he played cricket into the younger players"

"A 130kph bowler playing under the coaching of Waqar Younis seems strange"

Looks like he's just talking for the sake of talking now.... making lesser sense than usual.

Not the most well-thought quotes from Akhtar.

Never really thought of him as much of an analyst.

Shoaib shld stop giving statements just for the sake of it ... he doesnt know cricket as well as he thinks he does ... there is a lot to cricket than aggressiveness

He is paid to give his opinions. It doesn't matter if you agree or disagree with them

By Misbah definition , the new means you have to be in your late 20s so I am not sure what will happen with Pak cricket.
