"Misbah will now be solely responsible and accountable for his side’s performances" : Wasim Khan

Didn't Misbah think before accepting dual roles? This requires scary levels of professionalism, education (regarding coaching courses and statistics) and dedication. I think he should give up one role.

We will be Whitewashed by Australia as well but this time even bigger margin. Australia will beat us by 100+ runs in T20s.
With new tuktuking mindset we will be lucky to reach 120 max if not less than 100.

Overreaction here.

Team selection is one thing but to accuse players of playing deliberately slow in a T20 is absurd.

We lost to a weaker side D team so easily at home and hoping to perform well against superior teams' best XI in their home soil. It will be a day dreaming

The future hasnt happened yet.

He's accepted the responsibility, he's got the salary he wanted, he's got the roles he wanted and he's got the players he wanted.....now it's over to Misbah to get things sorted out.

Misbah's is not capable to run one role, let alone multiple

Wasim Khan at a presser:

Misbah has a 3 year contract but every staff member of the PCB has an appraisal of their work after 1 year. That applies to me as well and it will apply to Misbah too. We have to give him time, but it's about results at the end of the day and he will also be judged on results. We're backing him, he's our Head Coach and we still believe he's the right man for the job.

So far instead of being accountable he is busy mocking the public alongside making excuses.

Greedy Misbah has taken all the positions, benefits and salaries and now he should be ready to get all the abuses as well.

Misbah fans are always looking to blame the players, pitches, biryani, domestic cricket etc etc. He is responsible for our recent performances and selection. If the No.1 T20 team loses the World Cup next year he will be getting plenty of well deserving gaaliyan for costing us yet another World cup.

Misbahs next job is to get rid of shan, imam and Azhar for the england tour.

Just another routine statement. No point to take it seriously. If Misbah has been appointed by PM then Wasim Khan cannot do anything.

Lol Misbah. Will he ever realize Azhar is done? Why even select Fawad?

A string of pathetic decisions.

"Cricketing mind"

Design gracefully Misbah or be thrown away!

Agree , they are going from bad to worse by selecting Fawad Alam.
He has been chosen only to satisfy the Karachites who always seems to think that their players are deprived of opportunity.
Just hoping that our PM realizes the blunder he has made in appointing Uncle Misbah ASAP before the damage goes even deeper.

Lets see how many heads roll if we lose test to SL here.

Nothing will happen!!! Misbah's excuse is ready: New team with no Wahab and Amir, Trundler Usman was injured, Bad luck, bad pitch, Micky is responsible, Babar played reckless, Azhar & Shan out of unplayable balls...................

...and he didn't make the left handed batsmen play right handed and vice versa.

I hope Misbah lovers are enjoying team's beautiful performance under their savior.

I dont think in Pakistan ever a single person got to hold the dual roles of Head Coach and Chief Selector at the same time. This meant not only one person holds more power, but no more complaining by the head coach that the selector was not selecting certain players.
The problem was solved by giving the job to one person who was Misbah. Now it was Misbah to do justice to that role.

When Misbah was captain, he did face interference from selectors, when it came to choosing squad. Even when choosing a playing 11, he had to face interference from the team manager Moin Khan. Thus, many of us believed that had no such interference existed we would had yielded better results

Sadly, it does not look like Misbah has done justice to the role of dual charge. He was trusted with a charge and if he was able to deliver on it, could had inspired and revolutionized cricket.

At the end of the day, when we lose the series he will be responsible. Misbah seems to care too much about seniority and relationships, he needs to understand that he needs to save his job. If the team performs bad, Azhar Ali or Asad Shafiq are not gonna save him, infact there bad performance will not only lead to him being fired but not being able to get another coaching gig in future with some other team.

The reason why am i saying all this is because of the decisions he took today, very baffling decisions.
You have an Asad Shafiq who couldn't bat well in the first test and you have a Shadab Khan who batted well and came handy with the ball. Now you want to play another batsmen in the team who is technically making his debut. Everyone knows that debutents in cricket dont usually score runs in their first few games. The first game is infact to see if the guy has talent to survive in future and doesn't matter how much he scores in that game.

Misbah ends up removing Shadab and replacing him with Fawad.

Had Misbah replaced Asad with Fawad, no one would had complained. Asad was out of form, and he got replaced by a player who didn't perform so no bid deal. The other guy shadab who performed in last game will probably score runs.

But Misbah removed Shadab. So now not only do you have an out of form Asad, but a kind off debut batsmen also playing. To top it off we have a captain who is severely out of form but cannot be replaced as he is captain. Now Sarfraz was removed due to bad form as a batsmen. If misbah doesn't do the same with Azhar, he will come out as a hypocrite.

Sometimes you need to act smart to save yourself from criticism, Misbah hasn't acted smart here.

I am a fan of his, and always trust his decisions as he has good reasons to back them. But sometimes, even you can see how dumb some decisions could be. Azhar and Asad are playing due to seniority, nothing else. ANd we might see similar things in One Day when Shoaib Malik gets to play.

I gave a pass to Misbah when he play Shezad and Umar Akmal, as i thought it was a move to get them out of the way

I gave a pass to Misbah when we were whitewash in Australia as no one from Pakistan has ever won there

I gave a pass to Misbah when he did not play Fawad in Pakistan, as maybe Asad and Azhar needed to regain form by playing in Pakistan

But, now we are about to bottle the series here and the guy is destroying his career as a coach by some dumb decisions

I will still back him though as a fan, but he needs to realize that he cant be right every time. Needs someone over him

yess jee, todays decision was bad really really really bad.

Coach and selector dual role was the be thing for Pakistan. Problem is if Misbah doesn't perform well as a selector or as a coach, the whole dual role gets jeopardize and we might not see this thing again in Pakistan ever again. and Misbah was the right man to lead this experiment. But todays mistake and other mistakes in the past is bringing us really bad results now.

Is that you typing from your own account?

I am surprised too. He actually makes sense with this post. Pretty out of character.
If Even misbah's most diehard fan can see it, then you know how bad things have become.

Respect - it takes great courage to accept mistake or overcome own ego.

Very well written context - yes, absolutely no way this squad or playing XI can be justified.

I'm going to join in and agree with Major. I'm a huge Misbah fan (not nearly as big as him, but still) and I am getting rather fed up. When Misbah came, I was hoping to see all the domestic players I've been wishing to get selected to be picked, given Misbahs vast knowledge of the domestic setup. But unfortunately, he has planned things out very poorly, with limited balance in the team. He's stuffed the squad with oldies and teenagers - nothing in balance. I may have mocked Junaids in the past, and still don't agree with his choices of players but his general point is so, so true and Misbah has really failed in making a balanced squad, with the right positions and ages.

I never expected him to go and recycle old players to this extent, I was expecting some of it but also thought he'd pick a lot new players. Sadly, that hasn't been the case.

Getting very frustrated with his team selection and strategy.

Glad to see you realise Misbah’s deficiencies. He has to take some strong decisions if he wants to stay - no more loyalty to the seniors, select guys in the correct age bracket, and I am sure we can do better.

All I can say is that if Misbah lurks around on PakPassion then he will surely realize that he has messed up massively after reading this from his biggest fan.

I will agree that the coach+selector model is a good one for Pakistan cricket. In this manner blame cannot be deflected around. I too want to see this model succeed.

But unlike you I had little faith in Misbah to begin with. I was willing to give him a chance and will still back him if he makes the right decisions but it was clear from the get go he has no clear idea on how to put together a squad. He starts of by bringing back Imran Khan Snr for absolutely no justifiable reason. Gives a go to two hopeless losers in Shehzad and Akmal. Sacks Sarfraz, which he deserved on the basis of his performance, but then replaces him with a man who has been failing for about 2 years, nearing the end of his career and has demonstrated no leadership qualities.

Misbah seems to think that experience is the solution to every problem in the world. I wouldn't be surprised if he thinks the way to turn Pakistan's economy around is to find a 90 year old finance minister. He needs to set aside his biases and realize that there is such a thing as too old. Most cricketers decline after age 33-34 and many are no longer good enough after this period. He cannot seem to entertain such a thought because if that was the case he would never have had an international career.

Misbah needs to do some serious soul searching if he wants to turn around his career as a coach. The PCB on the other hand needs to think whether it's worth putting up with Misbah any longer.

Some very honest posts above.

Misbah is alienating even those sympathetic to his cause. I know it's difficult given they were a part of his #1 ranked Test team, and were teammates for many years, but either he gets tough with Azhar and Asad and puts the country first over personal relationships, or he faces the sack.

Respect to you bro for your honest and well thought out reflections. However, hang in there, Asad and Azhar won't save us or Misbah, but Babar just might.

This series was rightfully billed as Babar or bust but even those expectations are too high to shoulder the burden of a whole series on one man.

As others have said, respect to you for calling Misbah out despite being his biggest supporter on this site. It is possible to be someone’s fan and still give them some tough love rather than blindly support everything they do, very cool to see you do the former.

If he remains in charge, forget about Babar becoming Captain. If Azhar steps down after English tour, I am afraid Asad will be given the responsibility...... or Hafeez will unretire to save the country.

Oh gosh that's a real nightmare.

Respect to you bro for your honest and well thought out reflections. However, hang in there, Asad and Azhar won't save us or Misbah, but Babar just might.

This series was rightfully billed as Babar or bust but even those expectations are too high to shoulder the burden of a whole series on one man.

Babar and Haris are the only batsmen I like to watch in our team. Its gonna be very tough to comeback in this situation. For me a 100 from him is victory over this defeat. It gives us fans something to cheer for.

Misbah is here to stay for 2 more years.

What ever PP posters discuss Misbah will play his buddies for 2 more years.

But if his removing is possible after this series then we all should pray for 3-0 whitewash in test and 3-0 whitewash is T20s, so all media will go against Misbah Mafia

Like some have expressed above, i was a big Misbah fan. Used to have his picture as my avatar for a number of years on this forum. Always believed he was wrongly criticized by many here for his slow SR all those years as that was majorly the result of his batting colleagues being back in the Pavillion before 15-20 overs.

I still stick by those views now but the way hes gained complete control of the cricket team in the last 2 years is simply beyond defense. I can go on and on but just the fact that he is hell bent on justifying holding two positions that are both full time jobs in their own right tells you where his priorities are these days. Power, power and more power.

The only thing that can justify continued trust in Azhar and Asad is intellectual dishonesty, putting personal preferences above objective performances. And this cycle will not stop.

Its about time he was held accountable for the teams performances.

"Misbah will now be solely responsible and accountable for his side’s performances" : Wasim Khan"

Seriously, what does this even mean?

Will Misbah pay a monetary penalty for the team's poor performance?
Will he be fired (but still enjoy his hefty salary as per his contract terms)?

I am totally lost here.

What are the repercussions for Misbah if he fails to deliver, and how will PCB get ANY return on investment?

Misbah is responsible, so what he will do now? Will he put the team in the prison? He is a selfish person. He doesn't have any self-respect.
Wasim Khan is responsible for appointing this selfish person.

Both these useless people are getting 70 lakh Rupees per month + foreign tours.

Why should Misbah finish his term?

Misbah should finish his term because of accountability. Misbah and the executive team that hired him should be held responsible for his performances.

Why should Misbah not finish his term?

Misbah shouldn't finish his term because the writing is on the wall. But before moving on, the PCB needs to figure out what works. What qualities should a Head Coach possess? What qualities should a selector possess? Within what structure should these two principles interact? If both roles are given to one person then what qualities should that person possess? If so, is there a person qualified to be both Head Coach and Chief Selector of the Pakistani Team?

Probably this is the first time in history of Pakistan cricket, that a coaching/selection staff is appointed, and pretty much the same group of players are now being played that were played under previous staff, only for them to perform much worse than before.

It is a clear picture who is responsible for the poor performance of Pakistan team post Mickey Arthur days.

"accountable"? Presumably this is all lip service.

Some would say that those who have given Misbah this free hand and power should also be accountable.

So what will be the accountability of the horror show in Aus and now Eng? Yes these are tough tours for most teams but performances on the field were so pathetic that even 2-0 loss in Aus potential 2-0 loss in Eng wont Be reflective or what went on the field. First test was decently competitive atleast for some period.

Loosing is not an issue, we have lost many times especially in Aus like most teams but the lack of competitiveness in these tours except the first two innings of 1st test against Eng cant be justified.

The way Wasim Khan was quick to bring in new coaches, he needs to be quick to pay some attention to the national team as well or atleast give some sort of performance review and ultimatum that this isn’t acceptable.

From the Hindustan times : Pakistan head coach Misbah-ul-Haq could be asked to relinquish his role as chief selector after the team returns from England as the cricket authorities are considering appointing a new person for the job. According to a PCB source, a high-profile former fast bowler is under consideration to replace Misbah as the chief selector.

“The PCB now feels that it is best if the burden was reduced on Misbah and allow him to focus on his job as head coach as there are a number of important ICC events coming up in the next three years,” the source told PTI.

The source said the board had closely watched the selection process for the tests in England and felt that Misbah had not handled the pressure well. “The feeling is that in the third Test where a fifth bowler should have been played and also one pacer rotated, Misbah came under pressure from the social media and media and retained Fawad Alam in the playing eleven,” the source added.

During the series selections are done by head coach and captain so not sure how having a new chief selector can prevent the poor selections during the series. Is it that they are expecting with lack of responsibility as chief selector, he will start thinking better on tour?

Most probably he is 90s ex player, probably appearing on TV, surely he is criticising the team. It is so repetitive and done by PCB mafia again and again under various administrations starting with Ijaz Butt, its so normal now.

Not sure what good that will do.

And high profile former fast bowler? I doubt they mean Wasim, he won't be interested. Doubt they would appoint Shoaib. Hopefully not Aqib Javed. Any other high profile names that come to mind?

Waqar Younis relinquishing his cutting-edge role as bowling coach and starting as Chief Selector 🤣🤣🤣

Never been a fan of Misbah since he started playing. This guy puts on an innocent face which fools our public. He solely ruined our LOI team where he would score a useless 50 from 90 balls. What qualifications does he have to be a head coach and a chief selector? This guy is a genius at milking money out of PCB. He has done nothing useful for Pak cricket.

I think Misbah is IK's sifarish. IK only watches high profile tournaments like world cup and most probably, he was not impressed by Mickey's tactics in 2019 WC. Mickey's large paycheck also went against Imran's austerity drive at the time so Misbah was given multiple designations to save money. Problem is that IK isn't aware that cricket has changed a lot since his playing days.

This is just a theory to understand reasons behind loser Misbah's appointment in the first place. Otherwise, if it was solely WK who wanted Misbah in charge then WK should be sacked just for this.
