Just watched Rogue Nation and Fallout back to back and was blown away by the action scenes and story. Screenplay was brilliant with wonderful cinematography as well as the acting by all the leads as well as supporting cast.

Easily the greatest action franchise of all time.

Ethan Hunt>Jason Bourne>James Bond

Only watched the first two MIs. Liked the first a lot, hated the second and stopped watching.

Two of the last four Bonds have been super, especially Skyfall, a really clever retelling of British mythology - though QoS was a turkey.

Not in the same class as Bourne. But agree, MI outstrips anything Bond has ever gone, including Casino Royale & Skyfall.

Bourne Supremacy/Bourne Ultimatum are imho greatest action thrillers ever. That car chase scene at the end of Surpemacy involving Karl Urban's character is immense

The last two MI movies are imo up there as one of the greatest action films ever made.
And I feel sorry for you if you liked Skyfall. What an awful movie it was.

Skyfall was perhaps one of the weak movies I've ever seen. It breaks the core of a franchise.

Casino royale aside, the Craig movies haven't really been great. Bourne trilogy is unbeaten as an action film series though :)

Yes but can they survive without Tom Cruise , Bond movies have..

In this logic Bourne was better than MI but then one without Matt Damon was meh

Skyfall is one of the most critically acclaimed bond movies in history by fans and critics, it was a beautiful movie and a fitting finale; really didn't think they would make another because there no topping that, while the action is always fantastic this was quiet the emotional roller coaster and character driven which made it so good.

The recent MI movie is one of the greatest action movies ever, but comparing both series is tough when the Bond franchise is so massive and spanned over decades featuring so many memorable characters who are a part of pop culture now. But if it's a comparison between Daniel Craig's incarnation as Bond and MI then it is close, but am going with MI due to Cruise; also biased as he is one of my favourite actors but his recent performance deserves an academy and Craig hasn't made me feel that way during his movies

You need to watch the last couple of MI movies they have been brilliant especially fall out. Skyfall was indeed incredible, watched in IMAX was quiet the experience.

And who can forget, Adele with the greatest song across all Bond movies:

I don't think could ever imagine MI without Tom Cruise, if we're comparing who the best lead actor is all these spy driven movies then Cruise is arguably the greatest ever; but if we judge the movies as a whole then the Bond series take the cake which is reflected by the longevity due to fantastic direction and writing.

While I love Cruise, the aura, stage presence and charisma of Sean Connery is unmatched

While Skyfall had it's moments, it dragged a bit in the middle thus ruining the experience for me. In comparison Fallout was a super entertaining roller coaster ride which had me on the edge of the seat during it's entire running hour.
Besides Cruise has a certain charm and charisma about him which Daniel Craig lacks.

Exactly, plus it's part of mainstream all the Bond jokes, looks everything else sadly has only been a catch-up with Bond.

They even tried a Bollywood one lol.was funny and I loved it as a kid Bond 303 :))
Has massive 4.9 on imdb :P

Maybe personally you didn't like it but on the whole it was in the top 2 or 3 most acclaimed Bond movies in history, think at the box office crossed a billion to not sure if any other Bond movie achieved that. Fallout was incredible no doubt, the action sequences were on another level; Cruise deserves an academy award for that performance, but Action genre is stereotyped so unlikely, not sure who the last actor was to win the gong for an Action movie

lol really, Ghajini was probably the best remake ever even though they turned Memento into an epic love story lmao

One thing about Fallout, as good as it was felt like there is room for another movie and Cruise is sure to return and one would also be concerned for his health. With Skyfall that was the finale for more, I still have not seen Spectree or whatever it is called. I regret not seeing Fallout in IMAX, never got the chance

Fall out has a rating of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes. That's insane for an action flick.

I generally prefer metacritic and the number isn't inflated, and on metacritic the movie has a score of 86 which is insane on their meter. I like metacritic because anything at 60 or above is generally worth a watch although you might settle for 55 when it comes to comedies. But action movies rarely cross the 55-60 barrier especially last 5 years or so outside a small group such as John Wick series, Mad Max Fury Road maybe a few more.

MI is definitely the better action movie but you do have to leave your brain behind when watching. For example, the much talked about last sequence of fallout, which truly is an action masterpiece, is supposed to take place in a 15 minute timeframe. Now I know it’s called Mission Impossible but that is like Bollywood level impossible. Also, almost all of Ethan’s strategies seem to depend on sheer luck.

Any ways, both Ethan Hunt and James Bond got nothing on John Wick :97:

I go by our very own pper ali Asad's review. Rarely he misses to make his mark.

Depends what floats one’s boat. Mission Impossible is better for smart and epic thrills, Bond has the superior iconography.

I thought it was a pretty good title sequence and it makes sense if you think of it as M’s song of lament instead of a long song from one of Bond’s conquests. Even Mrs Robert liked Skyfall and she hates Bond.

My favourite song is still Carly Simon’s The Spy Who Loved Me - the soaring vocal line, the strings and horns.

I like Chris Cornell’s You Know My Name too - still my favourite title sequence.

Set myself to watch the first Bourne on an airliner once, but it was a bit late and I fell asleep.

Or even on Jason Bourne for that matter :D

Different era different movies but i personally prefer bond series irrespective how devoid of any logic they are. Those old bond movies i think were slightly ahead of its time that is what makes them enjoyable to watch.

Bourne Series is better than both, but yes Mission Impossible is better than James Bond.

Bond series always better than MI....my preference will always be bond movies.

Both are rubbish.

Slightly harsh, but I get where you are coming from. Bond films were good in an earlier time, after Sean Connery left I lost interest. You can only rehash the same outdated nonsense so long. I watched the first MI film and it wasn't bad, but wasn't good enough to make me want to watch another one either.

Haven't you seen fallout ? give that a watch and you don't need to watch the past movies before you see that one

No I haven't even though I like Tom Cruise generally. The whole heroic spy genre started to bore me a bit, although I thought the Bourne series was a cut above. I will check out reviews of Fallout and see what it's about. Before reading this thread I thought it was a Bond film. :79:

Watch both Rogue Nation and Fallout.

Riddle bro, I do respect your views on tv shows generally, not everyone gets Mad Men, so I will make time to do so. I'll watch one, and if it is worth watching another I will do.

I understand where you are coming from and I might be biased here but I enjoyed the fast pacing and action scenes of both the films. The only downside here I would say is the lack of character development but I guess that could be sidelined esp when you have Tom Cruise pulling off some really mind-blowing stunts.
