There are 2 approaches towards ODIs & T20Is.

1- Consolidate early & explode after 35-40 overs. (outdated)
2- Maximize 1st PowerPlay, explode from start, score 340+. (modern)

Facts

1- Most LOI pitches are flat. (so, 'hacks' like Roy, Guptill, Zaman are necessity).

2- over#11--40, only 4 fielders on the boundary, murdering spinners is easy these days.

​

3- 350+ is winning score while 330 is competitive score.

​

4- next ODI WC is scheduled in india where pitches are flat. & 2 more years down the line, 370 would be the new winning score.​

Top 4 Teams' line-up

Eng: Baristow, Roy, Root, Morgan, Stokes, Buttler, Curran/Moeen, Jofra, ...​

Aus: Warner, Finch, Smith, Labuschange, Maxwell, Stoinis, Carey, ....​

NZ : Guptill, Munro/Allen/Phillips, Kane, Ross, Conway, Seifert, deGrandhomme, ...​

Ind : Rohit, Dhawan/Prithvi, Kohli, Pant, Rahul, Pandya, ...​

All players except are power-hitters. Even Smith & Kohli can accelerate once set.


Pak line-up

Fakhar, Imam, Babar, Rizwan, Sarfaraz, Faheem, Nawaz, Hasan Ali, ...

Our batting line-up is stacked with consolidators/anchors. We have only ONE or two power-hitters. Even Faheem Ashraf requires time to settle in (as proved in Tests), so he is a waste at no.7 (just like Stokes is a waste in Eng T20I line-up batting at 5. They might replace Malan with Stokes @3 after IPL).

Pak has won only 26 matches out of 93 they played vs SENA+Ind. Win-loss ratio = 0.4

Recommendations

1- Pair Fakhar with Haider Ali or with M Rizwan at the Top.​

2- Haider Ali is an opener. Don't waste him at no.6 in ODIs. Misbah & Waqar have already wasted a talented top-order player 'Umar Akmal" by making him bat @6 in ODIs.
Haider Ali "the ODI opener" can bat @4 in T20I just like Eng uses Baristow.​

3- Rizwan should only play if he plays as an opener. At no.4 , we don't need another anchor/consolidator. Rohail Nazir / Qasim Akram / anyother List-A player with avg=40+ & SR=100+​

4- We don't need bits & pieces players. (Nawaz is a better bowler than Imad bcz he is actually a spinner "Imad is darter" & can bowl outside first powerplay & much fitter than Imad)​

5- Faheem & Nawaz/Imad are waste at no. 7/8/9. They can power-hit but needs time to settle in. Nawaz FC/List-A record is good batting wise.​

6- Hasan Ali is not a new ball bowler. He is excellent with old ball. (We have seen this in recent Tests & ODIs). Mickey Arthur used him with old ball & gave new ball to Amir, Junaid, Raees, Faheem & Shaheen. But WAQAR & Misbah & Babar has still not understood this thing.​

7- Give atleast 7-10 games to new players. Don't discard them after just 2 games.
Next WC is in India on Flat & Low pitches. Instead of giving more chances to new Finisher "Danish Aziz", Management discarded him after just 2 failuers on bouncy tracks of SA. He is better bet in SC than Sarfaraz & Asif Ali.​

8- Develop Young Pacers & Manage their workload. Don't overbowl them. Try guys like Naseem, Dhani, M Wasim & Imran Khan jr[SUP]2[/SUP] in series vs ZIM & Afg etc.

I think our Ideal ODI line-up should be something like this one

I agree that Pakistan’s approach is outdated, but it is outdated out of necessity. Pakistan does not have enough explosive players to adopt a modern approach.

We simply don’t have the talent at our disposal. I don’t think a middle-order of Rohail, Danish and Qasim is good enough.

People criticize Imam because of his slowish approach and it is indeed true that he will not get into any team ranked above Pakistan, but Imam has made Pakistan more resistant to collapses. More often than not, he scores runs and occupies the crease.

Fakhar is a maverick who looks good when he fires but he also gets out cheaply in the first 2-3 overs very often, and without Imam and with a middle-order of Rohail, Danish and Qasim, Pakistan will regularly finds itself 5 down for 100.


Haris Sohail is the only quality number 4-5 in Pakistan at the moment who is ready to perform against the top attacks in the world, but his career is coming to a premature end because of his fitness issues.

Imam because dispensable only if Pakistan can find a couple of Haris Sohail type players at 4-5 and and converts Rizwan into an opener.

Given our current middle-order woes, Imam is a necessity at the top of the order.

I am not saying Danish, Rohail & Qasim should be our middle order for next ODI series scheduled in England.
What I am trying to say is that TM can polish these type of Impact players so that they would be ready before WC 2023.

India lost WC 2019 SF vs NZ because they don't have a settled middle order going into WC. They droped Pant for Dhoni & Rahul. Played Karthik in SF. That SF was Pant's 1st match in that WC, as far as I remembers.

We may have better impact players than Rohail & Danish. But TM should scout them, develop them in NHPC & play them vs the likes of Zim, Ban & Afg.

But Misbah & Waqar are genius. They will try hard to unsettle our MO by bringing back Sarfaraz, Akmal & Asif etc. They will also destroy Haider Ali by making him bat at 6 as a 'hack'. Head Coach Waqar & Captain Misbah did the same to Akmal in 2010.

Top 4 teams have 5-6 good ODI pacers. They rotate them & manage their workloads.

Aus: Starc, Hazlewood, Cummins, Jhy Richardson, Pattinson
Eng: Archer, Wood, Plunkett, Curran bros, Olly Stone, Saqib Mehmood etc
Ind: Bumrah, Shami, Siraj, Bhuvi, Natarajan, Prasidh Krishna, Thakur
NZ: Southee, Boult, Matt Henry, Jamieson, Ferguson
&
Pak: Shaheen & Hasan. Only TWO fast bowlers!

We lack quality fast bowlers. We play Shaheen & Hasan against every team & thus increasing their workloads. TM should develop Hasnain, Naseem, Dhani & then rotate them. Don't play them in every match.

20yo Shaheen has bowled about doule overs than 20yo Rabada. Rabad was injured in 2020 & nw he is not the same bowler anymore.

Right now pakistan arent well resourced in the power hitters department so i would like if proper and consistent batsmen such as saud shakeel and rohail nazir will be preferred over bits and peices cricketers. This will give a cushion to the haider fakhar opening partner ship. If either of them preforms pakistan will be well set for 300+. And if both fail rizwan babar saud/rohail are capable enough tovsteady the ship. Pakistan really needs to find a hard hitting allrounder who can bat at 7.

Good effort but again its just a fantasy. Only England play "modern" cricket and their average run rate per face is:
1-10: 6.20
10-40: 6.06
40-50: 8.50
India, Australia,New Zeland and South Africa all consolidate and keep wickets in hand. Nz got to wc final despite not scoring 300 even once. Pak scored 300+ thrice in 5 matches batting 1st.
Our main problem is our bowling unit

Good effort, but we don't simply have the personnel to play the 'modern way.'

Our middle order is brittle and even though it is a very small sample size, Danish does not look convincing at all. Haider Ali is naturally an opener, but he would be more useful as a middle order player - he played at 5 for PZ in PSL a few times and did well. I actually think there is less pressure placing at 5 or 6 because he doesn't have to score big, and face the new ball against the best.

Imam scores a bit slow for me (he should be scoring at 85), yet he helps us since our middle order is so weak. All the dynamic domestic players such as Asif, Khusdhil, Iftikhar have been tried out. The modern approach doesn't work for us, so stacking the team with the best batsmen, who can accumulate, is the way to go.
