He is a great find

He is a proper test bowler and can end up with 250+ wickets. for all the talk of him being to slow for asian conditions he has had a very impressive first innings

Unlike a certain golden boy and future all time great he really does know how to find wickets :amir3

He doesn't look good and doesn't thrill so he won't have many supporters but he is mighty effective

He may not be a genius like asif but he is the closest thing we have had since

Wahab Amir and others are all quicker but Abbas might show again pace doesn't matter as much as consistency.

Yes he is the pacer we are waiting for after being wicketless for the best part of 2 days and getting tail-enders out at the end.

All three pacers were rubbish in the 1st innings. Amir is a worry, Abbas is limited and Hasan is too raw. We need a 145+ kph bowler to shake things up, and it better not be Wahab Riaz.

Not just us, the whole world has been missing such a top skilled bowler. I have to say after McCgrath and Asif , Abbas has been the most skilled level bowler I have ever seen.

but it adds more value..he cant do greatagainst top quality bats with 125kph..

He bowls at the same pace as McGrath. It is not wrong to say he lacks pace but his average speed is as good as McGrath or Asif and his skills are also quite close. To dismiss three batsmen within two overs on such a dull dead pitch takes some efforts even if it is tailenders.

If anybody wants to see how skills are against main batsmen he should watch WI series. He was the best bowler of the series and bowled like a top class bowler.

i disagree with the point that he has the same pace as macgrath had..he is at least 5 kph slower and thats what i was talking about..

You can not expect him to refuse to bowl whenever the tailenders are on the field. In Test cricket you need all the 10 wickets which includes tailenders.

The guy is a newbie in the team, this is his third match, it's on a flat pitch of UAE. We should encourage him instead of downplaying his efforts.

typical ungrateful fans

the guy is averaging 19 in test cricket so far and he has been the best pacer in domestic cricket for yrs. he is clearly quality and can be our go to man in test cricket for yrs to come

people going over the top though i do agree with general sentiment that he is a breath of fresh air.

However we still have to wait a bit longer to past judgement, at the very least though its obvious he has a brain

when was the last time pakistani pacer took 250+ wickets. They dont last long nowadays.

you dont get good fast bowlers easily , one or two in a generations thats why I think Asif and Akhtar not crossing 200 is a big lose for Pak fast bowling.

A trundler is all that he is. Doesn't swing it enough to bowl in the UAE and lacks speed, doesn't have the height OR pace to bowl Australia or SA and doesn't have the seam to survive in places like India, BD or even Pakistan. Don't see what some posters rate him for. The only places he will ever be successful are probably England and NZ.

I don't back him to learn how to swing/seam or how to bowl quicker at 30 years old. Especially given his lack of professionalism which is evident through his atrocious fitness. I hope he does good but I'm not optimistic.

He's going to wreak HAVOC in England and New Zealand, although he may not be best suited for UAE conditions he should still remain in the squad whilst we look for more options in the subcontinent.

Indeed, but debuted 5 years later. He must be in his 30s now (I know his DoB listed in CI) - his learning curve is finished or at the lowest ebb. Also, one has to understand the role of this guy - he is not a tearaway fast bowler, who would do the job in flat out 17 overs in a day max.; his type of bowlers are the pacer version of Yasir Shah, should look for a full day of 23-29 overs at least - the best I have ever seen, Richard Hadlee - by 31, he was in his 2nd decade in Test cricket, so one should understand the odds for Abbas. At this age, I don't think he has that much left in tank; may be next UK tour should be his last big assignment - to give Poms few days practice before they take on Bhuvaneshwar Kumar for the series matter........

Poor fella, his golden days are eaten up by tried & tested buddies ........

What pace was he bowling at today?

From what i saw Muhammad "phaast bowler" amir was generally bowling between 127-131 kph with an occasional ball (hardly 1 in 5 overs) at 137 kph.

I would be surprised if Abbas was bowling much slower than this.

He will be really good in New Zealand and England, UAE will be a struggle for him until the ball starts reversing, like today, that's when he'll cash in.

People called him a medium pacer, 'trundler'. I guess doing all that he has proven his haters now. Maybe he was the strike bowler/spearhead we need since our main main is impotent in the longest format...

What fast bowler hasn't struggled in the UAE? This is his first time playing in the UAE give him a chance.

Not actually. He has been the best fast bowler for Pak in last two series without any doubt and he will be more successful bowler than Amir because he is more skilled. There is a reason why he is was a top fc bowler. The only thing he lacks is a bit of pace.

Fizz says hi. He is more skillful than anyone.

What??? hahahaha, Mcgrath and Asif in the same sentence together? hahahaha!!!!
TBH, Pakistani pacers have been quite a revelation though. They are all trundlers. Wonder how long people on this forum can keep defending these trundlers! hhahahaha

You are right Asif should not be in the same sentence as McGrath as Asif was more skilled bowler. McGrath moslt played on bowling friendly pitches while Asif bowled on roads yet he was successful.

McGrath, what are you talking McGrath was more a 130-137 kph bowler, this lad is lucky to play on such a slow track on pitches with more pace he will be dealt with utter disdain.

Not the one we have been waiting for, because we are eternally waiting for another Akthar, but certainly one we need, with Amir not quite proving to be the all conquering force he was once hailed as.
