What's new

Mohammad Amir has contracted chickenpox - Are his World Cup dreams over?

you dont get vaccinated against chickenpox..

Well its mandatory now in most part of the world and is available for adults too. chicken pox as an adult is much more serious and dangerous than as a kid. Also people who have had chicken pox in their life are also later at risk of shingles which is painful and can even be dangerous

In the UK, Chicken Pox vaccine is not encouraged. In fact, Google *Chicken Pox Parties*. If one kids gets it at school, the other kids are invited!

I’m a doctor.

Amir will be back to normal 6 weeks before the World Cup Final.

I wrote a fortnight ago that this strategy of treating the England series as a wake up call for him was fraught with risk, because if he got a brief injury he’d end up out of the main event.

Are you suggesting that if he had been part of the World Cup squad he wouldn't have contracted chickenpox? :sanga

He won't be match fit even when he recovers. Come on. Do you guys really think he is the superman who can just come with a bang the day he recovers mostly? Its an international tournament. Not a gully cup.

Well many over here think so that mere presence of Amir in playing eleven even if he is sick will do wonders.

Amir is currently cementing his place in the world cup squad for the comfort of his bed

Cant stress more on the importance of MUHAMMAD AAMIR In the World cup Squad!!! SIMPLE AS. I have seen enough garbage from our bowlers in the last few matches.

He can be match fit and fully fit by May 31st. This bowling unit needs a leader and that is Amir.

Amir, Junaid and Harris Rauf would have been ideal, but we can have Hasan Ali instead.

Doctor advised him 5 days rest. Its been 6 days now. Any update?

Amir to see a doctor tomorrow for an advise what to do. He has 10 days to recover if he doesn’t he wont be part of WC squad. Thats what i heard on the news channel.

Amir had to pick the most unfortunate and crucial of times to go get chickenpox

I'm no doctor but I thought you can only get chickenpox once in your life and overwhelming majority of people get it when they are kids.

Could be the best time to have ever got chicken pox :)

Correct - most people do get it when they are young but it can happen to adults too. According to my wife - who is a doctor and casual cricket follower - Amir should be advised atleast 4 weeks of rest without any cricket :(

Otherwise - he will suffer from nausea and fatigue...

Regarding being unfortunate - I would rather him being out of action now rather than missing a WC SF...

Saj sir what do you make of his chances of playing 5th Odi and also his chances of playing world cup.. i have a strong feeling if he is fit he will replace fahim in the squad.
And is he really suffering from chicken pox then why is pcb so hopeful of him being fit by 5th odi?
what about yasir shah is he out of the picture?

I guess he was timely diagnosed and properly treated.

I think they'll include him in the World Cup squad, maybe even without playing in any of the matches against England.

Has chickenpox proven to be blessing in disguise for Mohammad Amir?

When he was diagnosed with chicken pox and was out of all ODI against England, I am sure many felt so bad for him to miss his last chance to make the WC. But , had he not been sick, and was playing in ODI, considering his recent form, there was good possibility , he might had hammered away by brutal English batting and would have been on board first flight back home. Particularly as his stocks were really down.

While recovering from the illness, he watched other bowlers being crucified and making way for him and he walked into the WC squad and no one is questioning , for the right reason. Lucky guy.

Obviously. He would have been smacked around like everyone else if he had played.

Yes, there is no way he deserves to be in the team ahead of Shinwari. He also did not play against Australia. He is an extremely overrated bowler.

Biggest freeloader in world cricket today. Had he played the England series, he would have likely received the same thrashing like other bowlers. We were told that Aamir was supposed to prove his worth by performing in this series and now he’s making a comeback without bowling a single delivery.

He is incredibly lucky.
Even he wouldnt have anticipated this turnaround.Nobody has probably been grateful to God for chickenpox.

I dont know what he has done to be getting so many chances while others have to rightfully pay for their average performances.
If he doesnt deliver some magical performances in the worldcup he should be dropped after.

Its pretty fortunate tbh. The pitches were flat roads and even Amir who usually has a respectable economy rate would have been smashed most likely.

he wasn't fit even before chickenpox. was trundling at 135 kph.

I’ve been following cricket for a long time and even been watching Amir since the start my brother even use to tell me this guy will never be a wicket taker but will always bowl economically during the Asia cup in Sri Lanka and it was true even at that time he barely took wickets in Odis he had always been economical only idk why people were surprised when he completely stopped taking wickets lol he had always been an economical bowler never a wicket taker

"I've been following cricket for a long time" and then "Amir was never a wicket taker" HAHAHAAHA

If you watch the games Amir does seem to produce some real pearls fairly regularly that somehow never seem to catch the edge. The kid has it in him, but it's going to take something more than Azhar and Mickey for him to rediscover his best form.

No, he would not have been smacked. He is not in wicket-taking form but you don’t find many defensive bowlers like him. After getting hit for a few initially he would have stopped the run flow.

Wasim or Waqar should guide him then.

Exactly that’s what hes always been great at bowling economically and stoping the runs which we desperately need in these conditions

This will be hard on Amir, he will lose pace drastically. He shouldn’t have been selected. Still it’s not as bad as Jhye Richardson who dislocated his right shoulder, don’t think Jhye will make it even if he does his pace will drop by 10 to 15 kph.

Let him play a game first before making all kind of statements.
He will come good.

I'm not one to make conspiracies, but did he actually, 100% have chickenpox?

He looks way more skinnier than before. I’ve contracted chicken pox though at a younger age also I’ve dislocated my shoulder but pace will drop from both bowlers brother :amla

Skinnier Amir was more pacey. I hope this will help him regain that 150kph pace.

When you have Faheem Ashraf as the other option I'll gladly take an unfit Amir.

How has he recovered so quickly??
Adult chicken pox is a lot more severe that child chicken pox and even that takes 10+ days to cure.

LOL he always has been skinny.
Like I said let him bowl first.
This will most probably be his only WC . He will give it his all.

Chicken pox bowler strategy is good. Batters will give wickets to get away from field due to fears of getting it

All the best to Amir, will he finally pay his debts off to his country ?

He needs to find that length. We also need to protect him from the death overs.

Doesn't look like he had chicken pox 10 days ago.

Chickepox syptoms are not just face related. They can occur on other part of the body and face can remain un effected. I had chickepox 4 years ago and it did nt show on my face. It showed up on my chest just.

was just about to ask you the same thing? "Amir not a wicket taker?" HAHAHAAH april fools long gone buddy

2 wickets in last 10 matches and his average is above like 150 and strike rate over 80 lmao those be invincible stats if he was a batsman but yeah he’s not a wicket taker never has never will be

Ya Allah, is ki swing wapis ajaye, will lift the whole bowling unit then.

Will he be playing the warm up tomorrow ? MenInG

2 wickets in the last 10 matches is a fact...I agree. This stat does not define the man... Im arguing the point that "he WAS never a wicket taker" the youngest to 50 test wickets, a 5 for on test debut, the guy was destined for greatness, those 5 years were his prime and he wouldve ruled the world at the point, there is no one even close to the way he was bowling at the time. swinging it as much as he was at the pace and accuracy he had...he was unmatched... but yeah hes a different bowler now... but still economical, i think even in the last 2 years, although he hasnt taken many wickets, he has the 2nd lowest economy rate. Regardless, hes still the best bowler on our side and his selection over a toothless, paceless, swingless Junaid is beyond justified.

Nothing has changed. I have made peace with the fact that he cannot pick wickets. At best, he can play the container role.

He didnt get a 5 fer on test debut.

He says himself he is unfit and wants to be rested.

Maybe doesn't fancy himself against Gayle at Trent Bridge.

Don't believe in fake news.

What you hear in the media re. Pak cricket is 70-80% of the time fake.
