Mohammad Hafeez likely to be ready for World Cup 2019 fitness test [Update Post #65]

Idk how I feel about him going. People remember CT 17 final fondly but forget how he embarrassed the entire nation multiple times during CT13.

People are expecting too much from him.

He does his best when people have given up on him.

Good we need him their as a finisher like him or not Hafeez Sobers is the only one we have who has the capability to score a 50 at a SR of 125+

Malik can't hit anything other than spin and our other so called "power hitters" can't seem to hit more than one six. So if you like it or not Hafeez Sobers is rightfully going to be apart of the team. Ideally I would like him to play at 5/6 but if he plays at #4 the way he did against SA in the 1st and 3rd ODI I have no problem with it.

He will definitely start chucking again during the World Cup because he's retiring anyways, hope Umpires grow a spine and call the dead balls and prevent him from doing so

He should wait until the semis or when we are in a precarious situation before he starts chucking.
He should take it for the team, and I'm ok with it if he gets a couple of the dangerous lefties out early with his darts

Hafeez is a gun player and is needed for this side.

Could be, arguably - but for that, he has to remain fit. Even unfit Bradman couldn't save Aussies in 1938 Oval Test from an Innings & 579 runs defeat ..... may be semi fit Hafeez is still even better.

I simply dont understand how people are expecting him to score at a SR of 100 plus and be that power hitter for us in the middle overs when his career SR is 76!!
Hafeez is not all of a sudden going to transform in to a beast especially in ICC tournaments where he barely averages 25 after playing at least 5 of them.

We are expecting way to much from him.

People think he is the answer to our late order problems because of 1 innings in the CT final. :)))

Hafeez for me is no where near the hitter Pakistan cricket team needs right now.

If he can bowl 5 overs or so, then we need him as a batting all-rounder if other main bowlers get smashed.

Like it or not Hafeez is a much better option than Malik atm due to his bowling abilities.

Pakistan all-rounder Muhammad Hafeez cleared the fitness test on Monday, making him a top contender for a spot in the World Cup squad.

Pakistan Cricket Board confirmed that it conducted fitness tests of the 23 World Cup probables but didn't reveal the results.

However, insider told PTI that except for all-rounder Imad Wasim and in-form batsman Abid Ali, all the other players passed the tests by reaching or clearing the required 17.4 points base in the Yo-Yo test.

"Emad is hampered by a knee problem which has flared up again and is undergoing rehab at the NCA while Abid failed the test," the insider said.

He said Emad had taken an unofficial test but didn't clear it.

The other left-arm spin batting all-rounder in the list of probables, Muhammad Nawaz, however, cleared the fitness test.

Hafeez, who has had two surgeries in Manchester on his injured thumb and will only be back fully in action in two weeks time by passing the fitness test, laid a strong claim to be in the World Cup squad.

The national selectors didn't bother to call up either of the two batsmen, Umar Akmal and Ahmed Shehzad nor left-arm fast bowler Wahab Riaz for the tests despite their impressive performances in the just concluded Pakistan Cup national one-day tournament in Rawalpindi.

Wahab told a private TV channel that he was bitterly disappointed and upset at not being invited even for the fitness tests even though the selectors had not included him in the list of 23 probables.

"It is very disappointing for me to not be considered for the World Cup in which I have always come up with good performances. But I can only do my best and hope for the best," Wahab said.

In the 2011 World Cup, Wahab made an immediate impact when he was drafted into the semifinal against India at Mohali in place of Shoaib Akhtar.

Wahab took five wickets against India and even in the 2015 World Cup his pace earned Pakistan a place in the quarter-finals where his searing spell to Shane Watson became the headline of that tournament.

The selection committee headed by former test captain, Inzamam-ul-Haq, was left satisfied on Monday when another left arm pacer Muhammad Aamir cleared the fitness test even though there is a debate raging on whether he should be in the World Cup squad after taking just five wickets in his 14 ODIs since the 2017 Champions Trophy.

In his last nine ODIs, Aamir has just got three wickets.

I'm not surprised Wahab trying to cash in on his spell against Watson and the semi final to ram his place in the side. Despite being such a failure in ODIs since then.

I agree but why has he not been bowling lately?

Do you think he will be used as a bowler in the World Cup?

LOL Wahab says he has ALWAYS come up with good performances. The truth is, the two matches quoted in the artcle are the only time he bowled decently in a match and Pakistan still lost and were knocked out both times. Glad these three buffoons arent selected.

Wahab and Sami are the two modern day fast bowling enigmas for pakistan. So much potential and natural gift and yet could not cut it for us. Such a shame!

He was always going to be ready for the World Cup, after all he is renowned as being the Professor.

Prof seems all fit and ready to go - but how many experienced people do we need?

To be fair to him he batted pretty well today given it was his first match for a while, has bowled very well and given Sarfaraz some control from one end and also took an excellent catch.

I think given Pakistan's current squad and players available, Hafeez has to be in the starting XI.
