Mohammad Hafeez's bowling action found to be illegal [Update Post #117]

‘Actually, in the test, I bowled with the same action i have always had, but they cleared me’

He has support from Arthur as well. Arthur being an Englishman loves finger darters, who can bat a bit, so that he can put them at 7 for the “spin option” on 4th innngs.

Otherwise, despite knowing what this guy is doin and what he is capable of, there is no point repeating every time that a bowling (read darting) MoHa is an asset for PAK team. I understand being politically correct from Arthur’s part, but I would have totally ignored, rather being politically correct, unless I had a soft corner.

MoHa has no place in PAK team considering next 2 ICC events are in UK & AUS. Better he should focus on improving bowling with a legal action and PCB will take him to next CT & WC in India.

Wrong. Hafeez has never enjoyed the support from Arthur. If anything, Arthur is the reason Hafeez is out of team for now. But Hafeez's lobby is strong that he is still getting support. Even former cricketers including Shoaib Akhtar favor Hafeez despite his mediocre history in cricketing performance.

Certain lobby has invested in several cricketers cashing on Hafeez to replace Sarfraz Ahmad thus allowing those several cricketers to make comeback at the expense of current performing cricketers.

people hate me for saying this but such dishonest players, injury is the only thing that will keep them from the team

Arthur in general doesn't like senior players around - he bumped Pollock at <35. But, he likes MoHa as much as possible within that scope (for his darting), otherwise this guy would have been history in early 2017 - he ended up leading PAK in AUS!!!!!!

I am not much aware of MoHa's lobby in PAK cricket - please tell me something about it.

InshaAllah he fails, there were actually posters who were supporting this guy as a crucial member for 2019 WC; forget the fact that he is bang average, they didn't care about his bowling action and how it could derail team plans. Imagine this clown clears the test and is selected for the 2019 WC, then moments before the event he is reported for chucking ! I find it shocking that there are people who were willing to overlook this, it is better to invest in the future now they don't need to be the finished article either, because players need to be developed. Am trying my best not to miss Jumma henceforth, oh lord please make Hafeez fail the test on the 17th and please keep him away from Pakistan cricket for good, he has disgraced his country time and time again and he will never be forgiven.

Well said. He needs to be kept away.

The problem is if he gets cleared it's only a matter of time before he is reported again.

Hafeez's bowling was one of the major reasons Pakistan was still a force in ODIs during the dark ages of Misbah. Him, Ajmal and Afridi were the only positives from that team and Hafeez could really turn the screws on oppositions.

For me, if he can bat like how he did in the Champions Trophy final in the lower order and bowl like he did. He is probably a must in the side but I guess Pakistan. Those saying Haris Sohail, his bowling isnt even half as good as Hafeez's.

Time to move on, PCB should have stopped wasting their team with Hafeez at least 5 years ago.

PCB should and no doubt will spare no expense to get Hafeez's bowling action cleared and fight his case, send him to university of Western Australia to get assistance from world class biomechanics experts -- after all, match winning spin bowlers like Hafeez or Murali or Saqlain only come once in a while.. hopefully Hafeez can pass on the tricks of trade to young guns before he retires.

And then there is Hafeez the batsman, a master at work when in full flow, makes even edging the ball to first slip look so elegant - such is the artistry of this wonderful batsman.

Always thought his best position was 6-7 but too late now , Talat should get as many games as possible b4 the W/C

I assure you that he does not. That is why Mohammad Hafeez is immediately not selected when he could not justify his selection [ban] in the team anymore. As for the lobby, too long and very messy complicated.

Reports say that his test will happen at Loughborough university lab in England on April 17.

This gave me LOOOLs

Wouldn't be surprised if he's selected in the test squad. Squad is announced on the 18th, his test is on 17th. He will find a way to pass and will be selected before hand.

The Prof's test imminent (tomorrow). Can he pass to strengthen his case to keep playing in the ODI side?

Update:

Bowling action Test of Mohammad Hafeez is done in loughborough, UK in ICC Approved Lab on the 17th. Hafeez bowled 3 overs during test and is now awaiting the result of his re assessment. Hafeez's bowling is crucial as he plays as an all rounder in the Pakistan side in all 3 formats.

His bowling is honestly very very good.

If he is allowed to bowl, he can easily replace Imad in the team. Is a better bowler and a better batsman.

However he is not a specialist batsman, and definitely should not bat in the the top 5.

If he is not allowed to bowl, he should retire.

Arthur bumped Pollock because he was an absolute trundler by then and was barely able to bowl 130 kph and resorting to offspin. Pollock was the reason Steyn could not find a consistent place in their lineup . Im not sure age had much to do with it.

In his last 6 Tests, SP had figures of like 25/26 wickets for around 500 runs. And, he was ever miser in ODI. He played his last ODI in Jan 2008, at 34 - I think, may not be in Test, but Shaun could have easily played till next WC, at least next CT, hosted by SAF.

In Test also he was good enough batsman to share 5th bowlers' role with Kallis, bat at 7 and SAF still could have played 2 more pacers and a spinner.

Problem isn't if he'd pass the test, [I think he won't personally] but the problem is do we persist with playing him rather than giving others a chance?

Lol 3 overs isn't exactly a great sample size. If he passes the test then he can potentially play ahead of Imad somewhere around number 7.

Results for Hafeez test are expected in 2 weeks times as per Hafeez's remarks to PP.

Yes but those tests were in helpful conditions at home iirc. The last time he toured SL in 2006 he was brutally exposed. I think Mickey dropped Polly for the tour of Pakistan 2007 considering how ineffective he had become on subcontinental pitches and even in the 2007 World Cup, pollock was terrible on those pitches and SA missed a trick by not selecting Steyn for that World cup.

Just like others saying he 'll be cleared and included for important tournament, and 'll be called for chucking again.

That begs a question that if there is a flaw in this testing system. Bowlers bowl with perfect action in those tests and continue to bowl with their chucking action while playing actual game.

I am sure Mickey is smart enough to know that professor is not someone to bank on to win a major tournament.

the whole system is flawed and dubious. The way it was brought into the game was dubious and the constant harassing of players is also dubious. They should have a cut off point. If you can prove your action is illegal three times you cannot be called again. Having this sword over a players head for the rest of their career is unfair..

Step 1. Pass test
Step 2. Tell everyone how good you are
Step 3. Chuck in domestic cricket
Step 4. Have your mates engage in a media campaign
Step 5. Come back into the national team, bowl legitimately but have little to show for it.
Step 6. Start chucking when your spot is under pressure again
Step 7. Get called again
Step 8. Cry about conspiracies
Step 9. Start again at Step 1.

Update:

Hafeez's bowling action test report likely to be released on the 2nd of May.

Very low key from Hafeez this time - no big statements about doing well etc - not sure if he is expecting to pass!

Also not bowling in Pakistan Cup so guess PCB have got a little smarter.
