Mohammad Irfan bought the factory where he was once employed

These kind of things are often embarrassing to read. Some might call it a success story but more often than not it comes from a deep place of anger at the world. There might be the odd case where it's a worthy act of revenge. Like I know this guy whose dad was treated badly by the richest man in their village and the son made it big enough to go back and buy up land and eventually the rich man's house.

But many a time, people go back to their poor roots just to prove to everyone and more importantly themselves that they have made it. Irfan - when was the last time he was heard about. Seems like this is a way to convince himself and others that he is some kind of massive success.

Imagine if Jaiswal goes and buys the panipuri shop he used to work at. It would be embarrassing rather than a big deal lol

The way it was worded 'the labor from that time is still there' sounds more like - look where I reached and you, who were my colleagues, now work for me. Of course, it could be just bad translation or a line taken out of context.

well he made it.

Point wasnt to become a legend in cricket. Point was to earn enough to get yourself out of poverty.

Owning a factory gives you passive income.
 
That's a beautiful story. Congrats to Irfan. By playing a few matches of cricket he likely has raised the next few generations of his close family from poverty.
 
The Pakistani fast bowler trope is one of crickets best stories. The guy who comes from nowhere, never held a leather ball, bowls in chappals but can break stumps and heads and is fast tracked from mohalla to national team.

Waqar is the spiritual origin of the trope but Mohammed Irfan is the realest embodiment of it.

In India, there is Munaf Patel who is a similiar story from a literal shanty town.

I am sincerely glad for where Irfan has come and what he achieved. I hope he can bring some light to his village and help improve lives of some others around him with the blessings he has been given.
 
Irfan should hire some current over-hyped trundlers and batters in his factory because they are not good enough to be in the team anymore.

Anyway, this is an inspirational one. Best of luck to his factory.
 
Reminds me of Amitabh buying the building in deewar for his mum who use to lift stones when the building was being made.

But unfortunately the mother rejects the house he has made using money from illegal activities.

You also claimed Gilchrist was told by Australian management he has 2-3 games to perform or he is out forever…

Can you please back your claim with proof? I will not let you get away with this.
 
I remember the pakpassion story, and i remember the excitement that was going on around here on Irfan, and i also remember the anti Afridi narrative that also build up.

Even though i was a big critic of Afridi, but at the same time, i believe Afridi saved Irfans career to some extent.

The excitement was basically that a guy over 7 foot was bowling in Pakistan and everyone wanted info on him. This was back in the day when pakistani cricketers were not on social media, so these cricket forums would be our go to places to get info on players.

Alot of us came to pp cause of the irfan story.

Anyways, he was taking wickrts left and right and was amongst the top names in the wicket taker list.

His name was added initially for the world t20 2010. But at the last moment, Afridi had his name removed and had Sami added.

Uff the melt down that took place here. Alot of us were bashing afridi, even me. Than came the england one day series and while afridi was again reluctant with him being named, irfan got added.

It was than in that england series did alot of realize that how bad Irfan was innitially and was no where near ready for international cricket. He was sent back to domestic cricket.

But than after 2012, Irfan came out as a beast. In limited overs cricket, he was like Shaheen for us. He was picking wickets in the first spell, and helped us beat South Africa in South Africa. In death he was garbage though.

In hindsight, i realized that Afridi was a good talent spotter aswell. Sami was indeed a good bowler for t20 but never had the right captain, while Irfan in 2010 was not ready.

Afridi was right to take a chance with him because a bowler of his height was always going to cause problems, and once he improved his action and posture he became a handful with the new ball, and troubled some of the best openers in the game. However, his career was ruined when there was a media campaign to force him into Test cricket (even PP played a part) and PCB eventually succumbed to the pressure and selected him even though he never had the physique to play Test cricket.

To be honest, Afridi didnt want to play him, cause he was not a developed bowler at the time. I remember these were those days when alot of dumb selections were being made, Raza Hassan being picked for the test squad out of no where, Hammad Azam's name being thrown around and than they got this guy in.

Afridi was public enemy no.1 around here. Even i was bashing him I remember. But in hindsight Afridi turned out to be right, and just not on Irfan, but including Raza Hassan and Hammad Azam.

To be honest his test selection wasnt on the back of media, but Misbah wanted him. Pakistan had not prepared any pace lineup for the South Africa series, so they were in a situation where they needed to find bowlers. The first line up of pacers that played was Umar Gul, Tanvir Ahmad and Irfan, but Tanvir Ahmad had no pace at all and Umar Gul was just on his last legs and plus Gul really sucked in Test cricket. This is why, than Ehsan Adil and Rahat Ali were bought in the second test where i think Rahat ended up picking 6 wickets.

Misbah liked Irfan alot and wanted to use him in Test cricket.
