Mohammad Rizwan or Azam Khan: Who would you have as the wicket-keeper in the T20 side?

He looked like a bit of a bumbling fool out there today. Some shockingly bad wicket-keeping. I think even Akmal could have taken that second one. It was an absolute regulation sitter. The first one was not a difficult one either.

I don't get why we are bending over backwards to make this guy a thing. Regardless of what anyone may think about Rizwan's batting, he is a world-class wicket-keeper. Not only are we replacing an excellent wicketkeeper, but we're replacing him with someone who is not a good wicketkeeper, cannot be used anywhere else in the field and does absolutely nothing with the bat.
 
How is this even a question?!
Can we start a petition to send Azam back to the professional eating circuit?!

Correction: . It is time for him to work on his fitness then come back to the national side once he can actually keep and bat to the standards required for international cricket. He can continue his career as a B-grade leagues superstar!
 
Easily the worst cricketer I have seen to represent Pakistan, even the overweight bowler Ehtesham Uddin, who played one test matchin 1982 for Pakistan, picked up from English League due to injury to Pakistan bowler, was a better player.
 
It’s an extremely one sided conversation however I think Azam will be given his final chance at the World Cup. If he can’t deliver anything in conditions he’s thrived in it’s absolutely done if it isn’t already.

This whole squad is a sham that Ignores key performers in domestic and acc
 
Azam Khan cant even compare with Adnan Akmal these days so how can u compare with Rizwan, we can criticise rizwan's SR but his keeping abilities cant be compared with such useless babloo.
 
Rizwan should keep and then you bring in another specialist batsman.

Babar Azam (C)
Mohammad Rizwan (WK)
Fakhar Zaman
Usman Khan
Iftikhar Ahmed
Imad Wasim/Shadab Khan
Mohammad Amir
Shaheen Afridi
Naseem Shah
Haris Rauf

Some variation of this should be played from the selected squad. You can move a few batsmen around or even bring a specialist spinner (Abrar) in for Shadab depending on preference/form.

Yes, Saim Ayub is struggling. But so is Azam and he's a major liability as a keeper.

Just let Saim do his thing and at least get good fielding out of him. Having Azam Khan on the field is a disgrace to the sport at the international level, let him do his thing at the domestic level.
 
There is no doubt about this fact that Azam Khan is a blunder as a wicket keeper. He has failed badly and should be dropped now. Enough of him.

Bring imad in for him and let Rizwan keep the wickets.
 
I think it's time that someone starts a thread that documents chronological failures of Azam Khan behind the stumps.

If I remember correctly even in the very first series where he kept wickets against Afghanistan he was horrible behind the stumps and there was easy opportunities missed.

Can someone please list opportunities (catches, stumpings, byes, not running up to stumps to grab throws etc etc) that he has missed (which other keepers wouldn't have missed) in all the international games that he has played and post them here?
 
This is not looking good, heavy knees against spin bowlers will definitely test Azam Sack of veges Khan

just because he is wearing the gloves he is not a Wicket keeper. Our team has already become a joke for more than a decade and we are reaching new heights with Babar's captaincy and planning and Azam Khan in the team. The whole cricketing world in reality has lost respect for us and are only reluctant to say anything bad about Babar because our fans react like Indian fans when it comes to criticizing any of their brands.

At this point, it's about who can hurt the team less and I think almost anyone else that can at least field decently would be better.

I understand your concern. In fact a lot of you I genuinely sympathise with. You genuinely love this team like I once did too. A lot of you don’t have hate or dislikes for individual like I and others do. You want the best team possible to compete and not humiliate Pakistan in front of the world.


The only assurance I can give you now, is that if you have made a plan, it’s better to stick with it and not lose hope.

From a cricketing POV, if you just want someone to fill in numbers…then what’s the point of even trying to compete? You can put in Umar Akmal if that’s the case?

That aside, to answer your question, I think Pakistan's batting order could use some shuffling and we could do with better selections. It's ridiculous to make this look like we NEED Azam Khan, and that he's the only one we could use in the middle order. I'm sure it's gotten to the point where even you, an avid supporter of AK, realize just how poor he is.

Usman, Saim, Babar, Fakhar, Imad, Rizwan, Ifti. This would be a tough top 7.

This is partially true bro. I still have love/support for our Test side. Their defeat still hurts me as a cricket fan. I like ODI cricket besides one guy’s tantrums in wanting to bat in a position.

It’s the T20 side that I just cannot support when my conscience doesn’t allow me to accept two accumulators as openers when the world of cricket is taking a totally different approach to ours. There are still players who I hope do well, from the domestic circuit and some in the national side. I have always loved Fakhar Zaman the white ball batsman in this side. I really hope for the best for Muhammad Harris. I appreciate Shaheen’s skill. I like Imad Wasim and what he offers to the side. I like Rauf the death bowler. I like Abrar the spinner. Yes I want Amir to do well, too many happy Pakistan fan memories attached with this guy. I’m hoping for the best for Usman Khan. I believe in Saim Ayub. I wish Sharjeel comes back, opens with Fakhar just so I can see this happen once in my lifetime.

So yes, I do partially still have affection to this team. It just doesn’t feel the same anymore with those two selfish cricketers up top. This isn’t what I fell in love with 20+ years ago as a Pakistan cricket fan. Just feel betrayed now.

you should ask that question to Bobsy King and Wahab Riaz. On purpose playing someone like Azam Khan destorying Mohammad HAris confidence, not giving any game time to any other spin bowler, not announcing any reserves. They have bad intentions for the team, if you can't see that by now you are just like the majority of our enlightened bobsy king king fans. These are all either retarded decision or decision made with ill intentions.

I think azam khan forgot that he was playing cricket and he was meant to catch the ball and no just try to stop it and deflect it away. His batting is also very ordinary and it has been many games now, not just 1 or 2 that he looks like a tailender. Just drop him, let rizwan keep and bring Saim to play in his place.

If our selectors were like team Australia's or England's, AK would not have come close to the side. But not only has he played so much for Pakistan already, the selectors were actually impressed by his performances against Ireland to the point that they decided to take him to the WC based on that, despite his horrific record before the series. They really looked at his performances against Ireland and were like... "you know what, this guy can actually bat" after he got out for 0 in the first game and faced 16 balls in the next two. That was enough for them to forget about his performances up to that date. Playing with Azam Khan against a decent side is like playing with 10 players, except you might even do better with just 10

Azam is thought to be an experienced player in west Indian condition because of his CPL stint. This hoax is soon gonna be over as well. This guy is a league bully and we all know why.

Ireland should never have been the benchmark for WC selection. It should have been just a practice game that's it but PCB made the whole team based of those 3 games.

Azam Khan may have played his last game in this World Cup - Rizwan clearly making a huge impact.

Eh probs got overwhelmed. One thing about rizzu is his good keeping.

I always thought rizzu was some hasta baby and if he would captain pakistan cricket, he'd at the very least be better then Bobby since rizzu just laughs 24/7 and doesn't shout like Bobby.

But apparently not, he clearly took in pressure and got overwhelmed today.
 
Mohammad Rizwan completes his 50 catches as a wicket keeper in T20I format. Certainly a better choice than Azam Khan

Most pakistani captains have been selected via a parchi or nepotism based selection.

Pakistan's 3 most successful captains, Younis, Imran and Sarfaraz are the only ones with no nepo factor attached.

Inzimam is another however inzi was a part of the circuit and was favoured ahead of others same with yousaf however they did earn it.

Regardless

Misbah = Waqar nepotism factor

Rizwan = Misbah nepotism factor

Babar = Misbah Nepotism factor.

Every captain appointed via nepotism has never been successful.

Even Misbah fans desperately latch onto UAE to cover up Misbah’s horrific whiteball captaincy record.

Don't get me wrong test wins matter alot, however then you should just be a one format captain if you're being forced to retire from t20 and odi circuits.

It is one thing to say Rizwan or XYZ has limitations or has played bad innings. It is another to propose an overweight cricketer who failed fitness tests that averages 8 in T20I and 4 sans Ireland. At that point it's pure hate for one player, likely going beyond cricketing reasons. @Mamoon

It's definitely trolling at that point. I understand saying Rizwan Kaptaana needs to improve in some spects but actively hoping for your own team captain and team to fail is terrible, nd advocating a guy who averages 4 and who wouldn't pass a high school fitness test in all likelihood as his replacement is inexplicable.

A player who scores 50 off 40 balls in T20Is these days is more detrimental to the team's chances than someone who scores 8 runs per game. The latter isn’t consuming valuable deliveries, whereas wasting balls and dragging the game unnecessarily deep is a bigger liability in modern T20 cricket than attempting aggressive shots and getting out early.

Saim Ayub’s initial performances were poor, and even Mohammad Rizwan’s first 10 games saw an average of just 15 with a strike rate of 95. It takes time to adapt and establish oneself, especially in a high-risk role like that of a finisher. While Azam Khan needs to improve his fitness and game, it would be shortsighted to overlook the potential he possesses.

Criticizing a slow innings is fine but all credibility is lost when you push for an overweight player who averages 4 in international cricket T20 and 8 if you include Ireland.

I never advocated that Azam should be in this team. I said he a has potential now it’s on TM to get him fit and firing. Hes a proper T20 late middle order player, which is a hard gig.
There is no need for any keeper batter when we have likely the best keeper batter for T20Is, Mohd Haris.
 
Attrocious keeping by this guy.

He gave away soo many runs. He even missed a stumping. Batsman jogs out of his crease, he is sooo slow to get the ball that the batsman came back easily while Azam was still in the process of stumping.

He's a club level keeper. Usman Khan is far better keeper than him lol and that's says a lot.
 
Embarrassing would be an understatement here the way he kept throughout the game. Quite absurd from IU to have him keeping when they have a specialist keeper in Gous.
 
Its been years since Azam Khan appeared on the Cricket scene, his family had no shortage of money because he has not come from a poor or working class family.

By now, he has played leagues around the world and also International Cricket and knows well that his level of fitness is lacking and yet there has been no improvement in his fitness level. Weight loss at his age and availability of resources should not be a major issue and yet we see no improvement.

If he has medical issues which prevent the weight loss then he shouldn't be playing.

So at this time, I have zero sympathy for Azam Khan as the excuses have run out
 
Azam has more power in his shots which is important in T20. Weak Rizwan should stick to longer formats
 
Pathetic this is also a thread ,Azam Khan is not even an athelete. Diabolical to consider him as no. 1 contender for wicket keeping
 
Usmman edged the ball to this keeper, he didnt bother to appeal.

But for @Rana he is the next gilchrist......
