Mohammad Wasim Jr for the ICC T20 World Cup (2021/22)? A risk or the right choice?

This guy has been smashed to all parts lately.

Another who has been very poor recently.

An atrocious bowler. You might as well play a batsman and get him to bowl - he can’t do worse. Nobody can do worse.

He is absolute rubbish. Shaheen's injury have absolutely screwed us over and we have to put up with rubbish like Wasim Jr, Dahani.

Mohammad Wasim jr in the T20I series against England:

4-61-0
2.3-29-0
4-32-1
3.2-30-1
Average of 76
Economy-rate of 10.98

Get him gone and replace him with someone else. He’s an awful bowler.

It's easier for batters to play his pace when bowling with Hasnain and Rauf. Can't rely him on death and we don't need him to open the overs, really difficult to hide his overs in a 5 man attack.

He’s a very useful lower order batsman

Him and Hassan Ali at 8-9 can both play important cameos if the top order fail. I would take him over Rauf, Hasnain or Faheem

He is in the squad for his bowling not batting. He is a trash bowler

Another gem from an expert.

Trash bowler in this format. I like his bowling for ODIs in middle overs but shouldn’t be playing in this format at all

Hopefully Shaheen is fit enough for the WC

His career economy rate in T20Is is now 8.94

I'm sorry I really don't see what's so special in his bowling.

Hes bad

Bowls too many slots balls with his slingly full bowling and as we have seen cant bat or field

Why is he in the team?

Slingy bowlers generally have short careers and also go for more runs, which is the normally the reason for the short careers. I hope I am wrong but early signs worry me.

You called it.

The problem is our seam bowling AR depth is so poor. We cannot go back to Fahim Ashraf, he had a long run in WBC for scant returns. Aamer Jamal was hard done by, he earned a proper run after his death bowling the other day.

If Wasim jr's to stay, he must start contributing with the bat otherwise we're wasting the spot of a specialist pacer.

He is a utility cricketer the one Pakistan have in abundance over the years
Hafeez Malik Afridi Mahmood Fawad n so and so on

He's not ready for international cricket and im one of the few who have been saying this for ages now. His slower ball is easily picked and once under pressure, he completely loses his Yorker.

A few performances in PSL should not merit a WC spot. He needs a good long while in domestic cricket before he can be considered. Same for Dahani

Good ARs are rarer than a hen with teeth. Faheem is an awful bowler with the worse seam than 99% of club bowlers I have sewn or play with. Aamer jamal will have the same issues as Wasim but hopefully he has more brain cells

Since we don't have a pace bowling AR option, our selectors decided to make one out of Wasim. Whilst it should be clear to anyone who knows his domestic stats that he's not an all-rounder just like Hasan Ali isn't one, out selectors/babar continue to uphold this delusion.
His first class batting average is 14 with a HS of 29. List A T20 average is 21 with a HS of 34. His ODI and T20 averages are 14 and 11 respectively.

If our think-tank considers him an allrounder, then Faheem Ashraf must be the second coming of Jacques Kallis according to them.

One of the worst bowlers we have. He is run leaking machine.
Should be nowhere near Pakistan team and finding it hard to play for a PSL team.

3-24 off his 4 overs today. Bowled well at the death and was spot on with the yorkers

Can’t believe we’re not even trying to use Aamer Jamel after giving him 1-2 chances and keep investing in this bowling hack. Aamer is a proper allrounder, this guy came in today bowling wides and leg side pies, got a few tailenders out and that’s it, Vs Bangladesh.

Proper teams who are not minnows are going to bash him into the ground. Our board can’t spot talent or ability worth a damn.

Why is he called Wasim Jr ?

I hate these titles.

I mean why Jr?

So not to get confused with the chief selector - and I guess a good n effective way to curb our chief selector.

Otherwise, I won’t be surprised to see him taking a chance to play himself by creating all confusion under two identical names.

This was really magnificent!

He need to work on his batting to be considered as allrounder. Pakistan badly need a pace bowling allrounder. If he can improve his batting he can be the 4th pacer in the attack.
1. Shaheen
2. Rauf
3. Naseem
4. Waseem (bowling allrounder)
5. Shadab(allrounder)
6. Iftikhar (part-timer)
This is the complete bowling attack and can challenge any side .

He has shown good death bowling potential. Something we need he should be backed

He has been awful recently, but credit to the lad he's bounced back well in the 2 matches in New Zealand.

He has indeed bounced back well but NZ and Bangla are not England. He will get tortured against England like he did in the 7 game series. He is too slow and predictable. With his non existent batting, id rather have any other specialist bowler in the team ahead of him...

The death bowling has been quite accurate, it just looks so easy when he bowls those yorkers. And another thing I noticed is that he watches the batsmen and can adjust his line and legth at the last moment as well

Just needs to be consistent.

His stock ball length is consistently back of a length/short so I guess these type of pitches suit him better?

I’m still to be convinced we should persist with him long term as he’s gone for plenty in previous matches. Saying that, his death bowling today was brilliant.

Many people were upset that Waseem jnr was being preferred over Dahani.Waseem has performed better than Dahani. He can bat a bit too so he is ahead of Dahani.

Seems he’s improved a bit, he just needs to be more consistent. When he’s landing those Yorkers at the death, he’s incredible.

Shaheen Shah, Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf, and Wasim Jr. could be a hell of a fast bowling lineup

He proberly won't make the xi for the world cup xi but if an injury does happen then he should come into the fold.

The front line pacers are Shaheen,Rauf and Naseem.Waseem will not be needed unless the main bowlers have any injuries or niggles. Not sure if Hasnain should be preferred over Waseem.Hasnain has pace but Waseem has better control. He can bat a little bit too.

He is being utilized poorly as he should not be bowling during the powerboat but instead should be bowling 2 over in the middle of the innings n 2 over in death.

More of a risk tbh, but he has progressed significantly for someone that has been playing for Pakistan for just two years. I think he definitely has the makings of a very good bowler and he has the ability to nail those yorkers. But I wouldn't select him over any of the three frontline pacers: Shaheen, Haris, Naseem or Shadab and Nawaz.

He also has batting ability would rather slot him in than Asif
Riz
Bar
Fakhar
Nawaz
Haider
Ifti
Shadab
WasimJr
Rauf
Shaheen
Naseem

More cover as a bowling unit

Not ready for international outings yet. We already have death bowling quota sorted out with Shaheen, Rauf and Naseem. We need a good new ball bowler, something that Hasnain has managed very well in recent times.

Rauf Shaheen And Naseem should be our first choice 3

Keep Waseem with the squad and developing him as of yet

Takes the important wicket of Stokes in warmup

Husnain is a joke compared to Wasim. The latter has ability score quick on at the backend of the inning and contribute with good fielder. Husnain is a one trick pony who gets smashed around more often than not.

Hasnain has played in BBL so he should know what lengths to bowl on Australian pitches. He bowled too short.Ireland tried short pitch bowling against Zimbabwe and it didn’t work.

Gun barrell merchants will travel in Australia. Doesn't matter if you bowl at 200 kph. Seen it many times in all formats. You should bowl hard lengths here Not too short Not too full. Just a tad short of a length.

yeah, from what I have seen so far, this tournament will be for the seam bowlers who bowl the traditional back of length seamers, like Wasim does. Maybe it has to do with the fact that the temperatures are still pretty cold in Australia and at night, you can see its pretty chilly. The ball does do a lot when its cold.

Way better than Hasnain but still seems very hittable. Almost like a Hasan Ali.2
If he has a good tournament will play a big part in Pakistan going far.

4/24 For Wasim today. Seems to have inherited bowling the last over duties

Looks a very impressive bowler.

However can someone explain why he is classified as an allrounder?

I am looking at his domestic stats and he has 1 list A 50. His highest FC score is 29.

Can't put a bat on bowl on these fast bouncy pitches because of lack of experience in such conditions and surely not an allrounder at the moment but he does put a price on his wicket and he does have some hitting ability as well as ramp shot in his armory, with time he can develop into a decent bowling allrounder in the mold of Vass, Wasim Akram or even Vettori in terms of batting ability because he does have a basic technique of batting.

He was bowling very fast, I only watched highligths of the match but one delivery was 147 kph and another 143 kph.

Because has a 6hitting rate same as Asif and more than Khushdil and Haider

I knew he was a pretty mediocre batsman when I saw him struggling to bat against a 37-year-old Philander in the nets. He can improve his batting in the future but right now he and Shaheen are on the same level as far as batting is concerned. Can't call him an all-rounder right now. At most he is a bowler that can slog a few.

His bowling on the other hand is pretty good. He has the potential to be a Umar Gulesq bowler if he continues to improve. Just needs to work on his line. Sometimes he strays too far down the leg side when bowling to right-handers.

I think he is a decent allrounder in ASIAN CONDITIONS.

1st time playing in Australia he showed mediocre batting abilities but the batting talent and muscle power is really there.

If he works on his batting, he should be able to average 20-22 in LOI cricket at high strike rate.

His bowling is obviously good enough.

Another great over at death. Lands those yorkers at will

Two in two! Another Hat-trick chance for him

147k and 146k two reverse swinging Yorkers resulting in two wickets, shades of Umar Gul , he just need increase his pace by 4k on average then he will be Umar Gul ditto clone

Shame on the management for not picking him vs india.
Missed out on a sure shot victory due to that mistake.

Strike rate up with the best in this World Cup

Wow! Umar Gul must've been a 150k bowler and the speed guns must've been faulty back then if you think Waseem needs to add 4k to become like him.

he was infact..briefly between 2007 to 2009 I think. Also he was bowling 90MPH consistently in the 2011 wc.

BTW for a brief period of couple of years Umar Gul was consistently in the late 140s and although non frequently he was bowling in the early 150ks as well , not in every match but when on song, in terms of average speed currently M.Waseem is 4k slower than Peak Umar Gul who was consistently between 144-148k , Waseem is around 138-144k on average

Pretty funny that going into the WC, people were saying it should be beetween Dahani & Wasim Jr for the last pacer spot.

He can be expensive as he is so young & inexperienced but when he is on, he is absolutely lethal and really good at bowling wicket-to-wicket.

The most expensive bowler today, went for 38 in his 4 overs. Also 2nd match where he fails to land bat on ball when we need the big hits. We need a batting all rounder and he isn't proving to be one.

Afridi and Rauf better bats than him. Should never be send again before them.
Remember he was the main culprit against Zimbabwe with his brainless slogging.

Problem is not Wasim himself... Problem is the management who considers him as an allrounder...

Hasnain is infinitely superior as a bowler.

He's only in the side because he could bat a bit, but he looks worse than a no. 10 and that says something.

Not good enough as a bowler to be in the team.
