Mohammed Amir has picked no five-wicket haul in any format since his comeback after the ban

Its been over a year now and Mohammed Amir has represented Pakistan bowling unit as a premier bowler in most matches since the comeback.

Unfortunately, he has not picked even a single " Five Wicket Haul " in any of the formats ever since his comeback.

Meanwhile in the same period , other Pakistani bowlers have taken 5 Wicket Hauls on a Number of occasions.

In Tests,

Yasir Shah has picked 4 " Five Wicket Hauls " and 2 " Ten Wicket Hauls ".
Sohail Khan has picked 2 " Five Wicket Hauls " ( Both against England in England )
Wahab Riaz has picked 1 " Five Wicket Haul " ( Against West Indies in UAE )

In Odis,

Both Hasan Ali and Imad Wasim have picked 1 " Five Wicket Haul " each.

Imad Wasim has picked 1 " Five Wicket Haul "

Considering that Amir is hailed as the premier bowler of the team , more is expected from him . By picking a 5 Wicket haul , a bowler single-handedly turns the result of the game in the favor of his side.

Even after more than year since his comeback, Amir has failed to run through a side in all the matches that he has played. Expecting him to pick up more wickets and run through sides in the coming matches where he leads from the front instead of being an average performance bowler.

Amir is simply playing on past reputation. Never knew his numbers were so average.

But catches were dropped and the commentators praised him....
 
He needs to up his game by fair margins, Should bowl with some brains and stop giving rubbish balls.

In his first spell yesterday he had a nine balls over which sums up his struggles not being able to consistent in his bowling nor having impact, thought and shape to draw up the batsman into mistake.

Our death bowling has been rubbish as a whole but I feel things yesterday turned totally against us in the over where he gave away 16-18 runs and was hit for two sixes.

It's high-time that we accept the fact that Amir is not who he used to be, and more importantly, it's high-time we stop treating him as some golden child who "just needs more time" to get back the peak of his powers.

Five years away from the game is a long time, and its clear, to anyone objectively watching the game, that he is a very average bowler who does NOT deserve a reserved starting spot. Except for two overs against India, he has literally done nothing special since his return.

And please don't tell me that "Oh they keep dropping catches of his bowling," because when he was shinning in Eng and Aus before he cheated, we had the likes of such stars as Umar Amin, Umar Akmal, and Imran Farhat in the slip cordon.

We need to stop this fascination with Amir. He's simply a shell of his past and we need to proceed with Ruman, etc.

Never seen anything as over-hyped as Pakistan's Bowling.
 
Averages lsightly over 30 since his come back, has only gone wicketless twice I think and more importantly than the numbers, when you actually watch him ball, he gets some swing and still has that odd very good delivery. The consistency will take time but there aren't many bowlers who average better in a similar period in ODIs.
 
It ll be interesting to see this thread if and when he does grabs five wickets in his kitty.

One swallow doesn't make a summer, and one english tour where he performed aint gonna qualify as 'past'.

He certainly is being treated as golden kid who needs more time, the fact is he never was or never will be your spearhead of attack. Wahab has bowled much bettter then him and yet we keep declaring Wahab Rubbish.

He was completely useless in Aus and NZ where he should have atleast picked one 5Fifer....Selectors are just scared of the media if they drop him tbh
 
It will be funny if after the creation of this thread, Amir picks up a Fifer straight away or very shorty.
 
Misbah doesn't have a hundred in odi. That doesn't mean he was a poor performer. Wickets not necessarily reflects talent.

Misbah used to score tons in Tests, besides Misbah was never hailed as a Savior, Messiah or Future ATG by his countrymen and fans.

So among fast bowlers - he is 2nd best in Tests, ODIs, and T20s over the last 15 months.

But he is criticized as being the weekest link. I think most critics are expecting him to be Wasim Akram and are getting disapointed. Guys wake up - he is no Akram but he is certainly not our weekest link. There are bigger problems to solve in the fast bowling department than M Amir.

In Tests, Sohail and Wahab have better performance records than Amir.

In T20s, Hasan and Wahab have done better than Amir.

In Odis, Amir and Hasan are neck to neck and Wahab is lagging.

That's fine, when do you see him picking the next Fifer?
 
It's either ATG or rubbish for some fans here.

First you hail Amir as the best bowler, the next ATG, etc. and now that he doesn't perform to your expectations, he's poor and overhyped.

Any bowler that can consistently bowl over 145 ks is special and can be lethal. Amir and Wahab are still pretty raw though, despite all that experience. If they get consistent, you'd have 2 bowlers with serious pace and that can make your attack look pretty good.

However they seem too confused atm.

Amir has been disaster and is getting free ride in team i dont know why .. and poor sohail khan is thrown out

After 7 years of being at the top level and high level coaching.. if you're still RAW then only God can help us

He's also played the most matches, which others don't get the pleasure of playing...

A few wickets of tailenders here and there can make stats look better by a long way

See people keep saying that, but the main reason for this is not Amir doing great but the other bowlers being really inconsistent. Amir being average every single match is not going to win a single game for you. But Sohail, Wahab, Hasan might bowl really bad 2-3 matches but in the 4th match can (and have) take a 5-fer or a great spell and win you the game. Amir figures still would look good but his impact to the games would be zero

He takes two wickets and the fans will say he was one of our better ones and the ones mocking him will say he was 3 wickets short. But either way it's always about Amir while Wahab, Hasan got carted away in all their spells.

not really. 1. amir has been given a golden pass more than any other player including wahab 2. theres tonnes of threads (finally) panning wahab 3. Hassan is new, and is not the spearhead with experience that certainly wahab should have, and by extension of golden boy status, amir should have.
 
Wahab dropped, Amir retained, Junaid Khan brought back.

Amir never gets dropped, let's hope he makes a great contribution in coming matches.

The thing with Wahab etc. is that they get carted away while Amir remains ok like he took 2 wickets yesterday and did well in AUS ODI's. Ideally Amir shouldn't be picked for tests for the moment, but I guess it got to do with ability. The selectors keep hoping that it will return.

But time will run out for him as well.
 
Amir needs to start stepping it up now. He's had a year to acclimatise to Intl Cricket.
 
Young and talented players should be given a long run. It's not everyday that you find a bowler more talented than Wasim.
 
amir needs to do more but he should defo be on teamsheet ahead of wahab and juni. its a nobrainer
 
Definitely looked more lethal at the start of his comeback. Thought he was dangerous in early LOIs (spell against India comes to mind) and in the ODIs against New Zealand, also the first test of the English summer at Lords.

He's still great to watch, like Anderson has a very smooth repetitive action. Is he en route to greatness, or even being the best quick around? Not on this form.

Should he share the new red ball with a promising right-armer like Hassan Ali? Definitely, what an exciting new ball pair, would love to see them open together.
 
Looks like Amir has more haters than Nawaz and Zardari combine. Get a life!!!! He still a better bowler than Hasan Ali.
 
Amir was an Average bowler before ban, he is a poor man's Nuwan Joysa now
 
Amir has been ordinary no doubt since his comeback

But he is still at worst the 2nd best pacer is Pakistan. I can't think of anyone other than Hasan who can even make a case of being better

I think expectations just need to be corrected. Amir isn't a world beater - at least not right now
 
Cricket is a cruel game. Ive been watching him very closely since his return. There is no denying the fact that he is working hard and bowling good lines quite consistently. He just doesnt have enough wickets to back his cause.

And yes, he is still the best pace bowler in Pakistan and the only one who comes close is Hasan Ali
 
Zaheer khan should spent some time with him as the last best leftie to come out of Asia
He needs some pointers in picking up those scalps where's he's currently lacklustre

The prison system also needs to receive some money from the ECB to help players stuck in the same fix as Amir

2 T20 World Cups, Tours to Aus, NZ, and Eng, 1 Champions Trophy certainly qualifies as a past.
 
People were using this to defend pathetic record of Wahab Riaz who is yet to pick a 5fer in any format since that Mohali semi final.

Good to see, but he needs to build on this. Also needs a 5-fer or 6-fer in ODIs. He hasn't really struggled in friendly conditions so far so I am not keen on looking too much into this performance.
 
That's the nature of international cricket: everyone is due a few easy tours after tough ones. Hopefully he uses the confidence of bossing lesser sides this year to step up when we tour South Africa next year

Agreed, he has been beyond disappointing since his return but his talent was still evident. The dropped catches were not an excuse but a sign that he still has the capability to take wickets.
