As we move into the month of Moharam, the start of the Islamic new year, our thoughts turn to the events and characters which make this month so unique and blessed.

I create this thread to share knowledge, ideas and thoughts on the significance of this month. The objective is NOT to debate differences but to find common ground. So pls avoid talk of “you” and “us”, but rather let’s focus on the “we”.

The month of Moharram is intrinsically linked with the events of Karbala and the beloved grandson of the Prophet, Imam Hussain. However, to understand Hussain, you have to understand Prophet Mohammed and to understand Prophet Mohammed, you have to understand Prophet Ibrahim.

This old Urdu lecture is very special as it illuminates the special relationship between Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Mohammad as outlined in the Quran. And if you understand this relationship then the events of Karbala become self evident.

Whether you are a Sunni or a Shia, if you are Muslim you have to admit it was a painful tragedy which happened in Karbala.

Isn’t it funny how Allah swt. always gave his beloved ones “pain” and let them “suffer” to let us normal people know how severe it was but still Allah’s chosen ones sacrificed their lives for Allah.

Hum toh aam bandein hai, ya Allah humari kotaiyon ko maaf karde, ameen.

It’s a fundamental principal of all religions that man will be tested in accordance with his capabilities. The linkage between Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Mohammad is unique as the Quran framed the life of Prophet Ibrahim as a series of tests of character and faith.

The ultimate test was the sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim’s most beloved, his son Hazrat Ismael. However, this sacrifice was postponed for a test and sacrifice of an even greater magnitude, zibh e Azim

Allama Iqbal refers to this great sacrifice as:

Ghareeb-o-Sada-o-Rangeen He Daastan-e-Haram
Nihayat Us Ki HUSSAIN(a.s) Ibteda He ISMAIL(a.s)

It's is greatest sacrifice for me in the history of world for the the sake of principle. And the time proved that Imam Husaain won that battle even after losing it all in worldly terms and Yazid lost it. Haq always comes on top, you can delay it you can't deny it. And he could have avoided all this if he was materialistic or cared for personal interest, I would go as for as that if he Nauzbillah joined hands with Yazid don't know what kind of distorted version of Islam we would be left with and to think it happened on the hands of so called Muslims. Islamic history proves that we Muslim suffered most for our own misdoings than from enemy. Hussain is the ultimate proof that no matter the odds but you can never compromise on principles and never stand with oppressors.

Very well stated.

Imam Hussain’s mission would not have been successful without the bravery and eloquence of his younger sister, Hazrat Zainab.

Hazrat Zainab had all the attributes of her father, Imam Ali. In the packed court of Yazid, as the severed head of her brother presented, her words and bravery exposed Yazid as a coward.

I post a link to a documentary in English on the life of Hazrat Zainab.

I know the book very well as I believed so do you. Do you know if it is available online?

The way Hazrat Hussain RA was martyred along with family members will never be forgotten. We need to remember other martyrs also like Hazrat Hamza the leader of all the martyrs. How did the prophet saw act whenever it was the anniversary of the martyrdom of Hamza Ra? We need to follow the prophet Muhammad SAW the way he reacted to the martyrdom of Hamza Ra.

Also Hazrat Usman Ra was brutally murdered at the age of 82 and was deprived of water for 40 days. We should mention Hazrat Usman Ra whenever we mention Hazrat Hussain and Hazrat Hamza Ra.

Also i feel a drop of blood of a prophet is greater than all the blood combined of non prophets. The teeth of huzoor saw being martyred in battle of uhud is greater tragedy than Karbala.

What are ur opinions fellow pp'ers???

Love of Hussain is mandatory and the weight of this love is equated to the efforts of the Prophet in propagating the religion of Islam.

"(O Prophet) tell (people) I don’t ask you any wage (in return for my prophethood) except to love my near kin. And if anyone earns any good We shall give Him an increase of good (in return for it)”(Qur’an 42:23).

The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Husayn is part of me and I am part of him. May Allaah love those who love Husayn. Husayn is one of my grandsons.”

After the demise of our Lady of Light, Hazrat Fatima, Imam Ali expressed the desire to have a son who will be the protector and support for Imam Hasan and Hussain like he was the protector and support for the Prophet. Allah granted him another son, who was named Abbas and who was trained by Imam Ali himself. Abbas was a handsome and immensely brave member of the Bani Hashim.

Abbas even as a young boy was devoted to his elder half brother Imam Hussain and in Karbala we was the flag bearer of the army of Imam Hussain.

Many people were Martyred but Imam Hussain AS case is unique. That is because an angel who never came down before came to inform about that incident years back to Muhammad SAW.

Apart from that after this incident Muhammad SAW came to dreams of companions and said he was collecting blood of martyrs in Karbala .

Unfortunately there are nasbi mentality speakers who try to dilute the incident of Karbala , because the background of karbala if discussed will open a can of worms , and they do not have answers to that.

There is a very strong connection between Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Mohammed. And Quran attested to this. Prophet Mohammad ultimately fulfilled the sacrifice of Hazrat Ibrahim and Isma’il when his beloved grandson offered the blood of his entire family in the battlefield of Karbala to protect the purity of Islam.

The following verses of the Quran illustrate this linkage. Allama Iqbal also reflected upon this linkage.

Then we reveal to you O Muhammad follow the creed of Ibrahim a man of pure faith was not an idolater“ (Nahl: 120-23).

God Intervenes to Save Abraham and Ismail
[37:104] We called him: "O Abraham.

[37:105] "You have believed the dream." We thus reward the righteous.

[37:106] That was an exacting test indeed.

[37:107] We ransomed (Ismail) by substituting an animal sacrifice.

[37:108] And we preserved his history for subsequent generations.

[37:109] Peace be upon Abraham.

[37:110] We thus reward the righteous.

[37:111] He is one of our believing servants.

Alama Iqbal

Gharib-o-sāda-o-rangi’n hay dāstān-e-Haram

Nihāyat iski Hussain ibtida hay Ismāil

Iqbal says the narrative of Kaba is simple, straightforward, and interesting. It starts with Prophet Ismail, who laid the first stone and suffered great pains in its construction. He offered for sacrifice his own life but the sacrifice was not completed as he was replaced by a ram and according to the Holy Quran the great sacrifice or Zibh-e ‘Azim was to come later and be completed by one of his descendants, Hussain. In between we had a number of prophets till Prophet Mohammad rid it of idols and restored its purity. Then came Hussain, as the culmination of Zibh e Azim, who sacrificed his life and preserved the glory of the Religion of Allah.

Why do we have to discuss all the topics at once? No one prohibits remembering Hadrat Uthman(RA) on the day he was murdered. Problem is the tendency to remember all incidents of Islamic history on Muharram, which seems like an attempt to dilute what really transpired at karbala & to move the topic away from Imam Hussains martyrdom.

Also it seems there is a tendency to hide the historical incidents of early years. Hadrat Uthman (RA) was also murdered by the muslims. There were allegations of nepotism & corruption against hadrat Uthman(RA). The party that led the movement of usurpation of the Caliph included people like Ammar (RA)[I'm not so sure about it though. apologies if I'm wrong about the involvement of Ammar(RA)]
Son of Abu Bakr(RA) etc. There were companions of Prophet (PBUH) who were not happy how things changed under Hadrat Uthman(RA) with the Ummayas occupying major power positions, when even a couple of decades earlier this same Ummayad clan was the staunch enemy of the Prophet(PBUH) & muslims.

Hadrat Uthman's (RA) murder led to the first civil war of muslims in the battle of Jamal and things never became better after that.

Hazrat Imam Hussain is revered by all muslims, whether Shia or Sunni.

Katle Hussain asal mein marge Yazeed hai
Islam zinda hota hai har karbala ke baad

My beloved Prophet's (Sallalu alaihi wa'alahi wasalm) family was slained brutally and unjustly. The forehead that He (Sallalu alaihi wa'alahi wasalm) used to kiss was poked, desecrated, and mutilated.

My heart hurts thinking about the pain and suffering that was endured by some of the very best that walked this earth.

But, at the same time, I do know that those who suffered these atrocities are now in a much much better place and it is my job now to carry their honorable mission of standing with the truth no matter what the cost of that is.

May Allah subhanaho wa taala protect all the Muslims & Momineens of the current time. May our hearts be filled with the love of the Prophet (Sallalu alaihi wa'alahi wasalm), ahl-e-Bait and the Sahaba razi Allah taa'la anhoma and that we continue to carry their mission. And hopefully, one day we get to join them in the next world and reach our true potential. Ameen.

THE FULL STORY OF HUSSAIN

Just over 50 years of the death of Muhammad (the last Prophet of Islam), the Muslim rulership was sliding into corruption under the tyrant Yazid, from the Ummayad family.

Hussain the son of Ali and the grandson of Muhammad took a stand against Yazid’s evil rule. Whilst Yazid was feared and hated for his ruthlessness, Hussain was loved and respected by society. Yazid realised this, and understood that if he could convince Hussain to support him, the people would too.

Hussain had a choice. To support the tyrant and live a comfortable life full of luxury, or to refuse and likely be killed for his decision. What should he do? What would you or I do? For Hussain he could not live his life as a supporter of tyranny, and the choice for him was simple. Hussain refused. He said “I only desire to spread good values and prevent evil”.

In my opinion too many Sunnis brush aside the tragedy of the death of the prophets grandson just to distance themselves from Shias. As a Sunni, I feel it is one of the most tragic incidents in our history and should be treated as such. Early Islamic history right after the death of the prophet pbuh is much more complex than people would like to believe

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan urged his countrymen to pay tribute to Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) by supporting the truth and justice, besides thwarting every any falsehood tactics as the nation observes Youm-e-Ashura.

The prime minister, in his message to the nation on Ashura (Muharram 10), said that Iman Hussain (RA) had proved through his practice that one should always side with the truth and never hesitate to sacrifice their life for a cause.

He said Imam Hussain (RA), along with his companions, were martyred after they refused to accept the aggression of Yazid.

Imam Hussain preferred martyrdom to bowing before tyranny, the premier said.

The Prime Minister said Youm-e-Ashura had been a day of significance even before the advent of Islam but its importance increased manifold owing to the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA).

He said the martyrdom of Imam Hussain was a tragedy that had been saddening the Muslims despite the passage of centuries.

The PM said Iman Hussain (RA) had become a symbol of force against falsehood, besides becoming a source of strength for all movements fighting against tyranny in the times to come.

He said the battle between the truth and falsehood persisted forever and will also continue in the future, but that we should support truth and justice every time.

He also advised the countrymen to ensure the implementation of the anti-COVID-19 SOPs for the country’s protection against the pandemic.

I completely agree with this post. Unfortunately it has been sidelined by wahabis who seen any form of revolt against a ruler as haram ( just to protect their own position)

At least three people are dead and 50 others wounded after a bomb ripped through a Shia Muslim procession in central Pakistan, officials said.

Security was high on Thursday as the religious minority marked Ashura, the 10th day of the holy month of Muharram, a flashpoint for sectarian violence in previous years.

“We have confirmation of three dead and 50 injured from the blast at the procession site,” said a senior government official in the city of Bahawalnagar, in Punjab province.

Social media videos showed bleeding victims lying on a road being helped by members of the public.

A local police officer, Kashif Hussain, also confirmed the death toll to AFP.

“The nature of the explosion is not yet clear as a team is still collecting evidence from the scene,” he said.

Authorities have suspended mobile phone services in major cities as a security measure during Ashura processions. Residents in many urban centres were experiencing signal jams on Thursday. The streets leading to procession routes were also blocked.

Ashura commemorates the killing of the Prophet Mohammed’s grandson Hussein in the Battle of Karbala in 680 AD – a defining moment in the birth of Shia Islam.

The procession later resumed and people continued with the ceremonies, the officials said.

Sectarian violence – in particular by Sunni hardliners – against the Shia, who make up roughly 20 percent of Pakistan’s 220 million people, has erupted in fits and bursts for decades in Pakistan.

Anti-Shia armed groups have bombed shrines and targeted Ashura processions in attacks that have killed thousands.

Hussein is equally revered by Sunnis, but hardliners oppose the public mourning of his martyrdom.

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar has announced financial assistance for the families of those killed and injured in the Bahawalnagar blast during a procession on Muharram 10.

The CM said Rs1 million will be given to the families of those who lost their lives in the blast.

In a statement issued from Lahore, Buzdar said that those severely injured in the Bahawalnagar blast would get Rs550,000, while the 11 injured would get Rs100,000 each.

He said that financial assistance is not a substitute for any human life and that only those who have lost their loved ones in the world know their grief.

"The sympathies of the Punjab government are with the families of the deceased and the injured," the Punjab CM said.

He said that the incident was being investigated and the suspects would not be able to escape punishment.

A day earlier, two people were killed and 30 others were injured when a Muharram procession was targeted with a cracker.
Police said the incident took place when the Muharram procession was passing through the City Chowk area in Bahawalnagar.

An important part of the Muslim calendar.

Muharram 9 mourning processions are being taken out countrywide amid strict security arrangements, with mobile phone services suspended in some areas under a comprehensive security plan devised by law enforcement agencies to prevent any untoward incident.

The Sindh government last week imposed a ban on the use of helicams or drones for video recording by media channels during processions and majalis from Muharram 8 (Aug 7) to 10 (Aug 9).

Similarly, the administration in Islamabad has imposed an emergency in all hospitals of the capital whereas 2,200 police officials have been deployed during today’s procession.

Peshawar police have cited serious security threats to processions. However, they said all-out measures to ensure complete security cover to the procession have been taken.

Karachi

The main procession in the metropolis commenced from Nishtar Park this noon, will go through Mehfil-i-Shah-i-Khorasan and end at Hussainian Iranian Imambargah in Kharadar.

According to a Sindh police spokesperson, as many as 5,313 policemen have been deployed for security and monitoring of the main routes of the central procession.

Snipers of the Special Security Unit have also been deployed along procession routes.

The spokesperson added that 1,000 traffic policemen had been deputed to ensure the smooth flow of traffic on alternative routes/roads.

The Sindh Police also urged citizens to keep a strict vigil on suspicious people and inform the police through its helpline in case of any emergency.

Lahore

The main procession in Lahore commenced from Pando Street, Islampura, and will culminate at the same street after passing through the designated route.

The procession reached its first destination at Siraj Building Chowk via Alamgir Road where mourners performed Zuhr prayers.

Afterwards, the procession will pass through Islampura’s main market, Neli Bar Chowk and Civil Secretariat before reaching Old Anarkali in the evening where the mourners will make a brief stopover to perform Maghrib prayers.

The procession will culminate at Pando Street at around midnight after going through designated routes.

Quetta

The main procession of Muharram 9 in Quetta emerged from Imambargah Nasirul Aza after Zuhr prayer and will end at the same venue after passing through its traditional routes.

DIG Police Quetta Fida Hussain Shah told a press conference earlier in the day that there were a total of 57 imambargahs in the city, of which 24 were highly sensitive and 23 were sensitive.

More than 5,000 police and FC personnel have been deployed in the city, while business centers located along procession routes will remain shut on Muharram 9 and 10.

The senior officer said cellular services will also remain suspended from 6am to 12pm in various areas.

Peshawar

The main procession in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa capital emerged from Imambargah Hussainia Hall at 10am and the mourners briefly stopped in the Kali Bari area to perform Zuhr prayers.

The procession will pass through its traditional routes and culminate at Imambargah Hussainia.

SSP Operations Peshawar, Kashif Aftab Abbasi, said there were strong security threats at procession routes, adding that the police had adopted comprehensive measures to guard mourners.

More than 11,000 police officers have been deployed across the city, he said in a statement.

He said over 1,000 personnel had been stationed at the city’s Saddar area alone for the procession’s security today.

Islamabad

Islamabad Capital Police Chief Dr Akbar Nasir Khan said the central control room for monitoring processions had been established at the Safe City Islamabad.

He said cellular services will remain suspended in some areas due to security reasons.

Strict vigilance should be maintained to ensure that security measures are in place by the police and standard operating procedures issued by the government are being followed, the IGP said, adding that the bomb disposal squad would conduct checking of routes through robots and modern technology while entry of participants in the procession would be ensured only after complete checking.

PM’s message

In his message on Ashura, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Imam Hussain’s message of “resistance and defiance will continue to inspire humanity to aspire for a moralistic world order that is based on universal principles of equality and freedom”.

He said the “supreme sacrifice rendered by Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his family drew a distinct line between the forces of truth and falsehood, and the oppressor and the oppressed.

“The great Imam established a moral principle that has animated the struggles for the right to self-determination”.

The PM stressed the need for seeking guidance from the “exemplary character” of Imam Hussain and his companions as “humanity navigates multiple challenges and seeks to break the logjam it finds itself in”.

During the operation, authorities seized a cache of weapons and explosives, including: six rocket launchers, six RPG boosters, nine hand grenades, ammunition, fuses, electric detonators as well as an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) concealed in a ghee container.

The CTD has registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident. Officials believe that unknown terrorists were planning a large-scale attack during Muharram al-Haram, a significant religious month for Shia Muslims.

Governor Tessori announces special cell to facilitate people during Muharram

Governor Sindh Kamran Khan Tessori announced the establishment of a special cell for Muharram-ul-Haram to facilitate immediate response to complaints from anywhere in the province.

Addressing a press conference after a meeting with clerics, the governor emphasised his personal commitment to resolving issues related to road carpeting and other facilities during Muharram ul Haram.

He stated, “If the local government faces funding issues for road maintenance and other amenities during Muharram, I am prepared to take personal responsibility for their resolution. Special arrangements, including the installation of water coolers at various locations in the city, are planned to ensure comfort for Azadaran.’

Kamran Khan Tessori also acknowledged the role of law enforcement agencies in ensuring peace and security.

Responding to a question about participants from abroad, he assured that the federal government would be contacted to ensure maximum facilities for them amidst potential difficulties. The governor also directed the Karachi Water & Severage Coorporation (KWSC) to ensure that no water shortages occur during processions and Majalis.

The reason of this is because when you speak about Karbala incident a lot of questions will be asked and several big names revered by sunnis will be exposed.

You will find several Sunnis also being critical about Yazeed and many cursing him , but no one asks the question that when there were big companions alive how on earth can someone like Yazeed come to power? If you want to know about Karbala , start twenty years before , the rule of Yazeed father. Untill and unless you study the rule of Muawiyah through history books and checking the doctrine with hadeeth books , you will never understand Karbala.

No decision yet on internet services ban during Muharram: interior ministry

The federal government has not yet taken any decision to suspend internet services during the month of Muharram, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior said on Friday.

The provincial governments had sought the suspension of six social media applications for around a week during Muharram — which is expected to start on July 8 — due to security concerns.

In a statement today, the interior ministry spokesperson said no decision has been made on the provincial governments’ requests and advised against paying heed to rumours.

The statement also clarified that no direction has been issued by the Prime Minister's Office regarding suspending the internet during the holy month.

No mobile phone service in Peshawar on Muharram 9, 10

Peshawar's Capital City Police Peshawar (CCPO) has announced the suspension of mobile phone services in the provincial capital on Muharram 9 and 10, which falls on 17 and 18 July, as a part of a security plan to maintain law and order during the holy month.

"The decision is taken to avoid any unfortunate incident during Ashura," CCPO said.

Earlier on July 5, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government decided to suspend mobile phone services in the sensitive districts of the province during the Ashura.

A high-level meeting to review the arrangements for the holy month of Muharram was held under the chair of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sardar Ali Amin Khan Gandapur.

The meeting took a detailed review of the security plan and other arrangements to maintain law and order during the month.

While briefing the participants on the security plan and other arrangements for Muharram, it was told that Muharram processions and gatherings would be carried out in 14 districts of the province. Of which, eight districts have been reported as the most sensitive and the other six as sensitive in terms of law and order and security arrangements.

It was decided that about 40,000 security personnel would be deployed, whereas special contingents of FC and army would also be deployed for the security of processions and gatherings.

The CM directed for the provision of the financial resources to maintain the security. Moreover, he directed that religious leaders of different sects and elected public representatives should be approached to promote religious harmony and tolerance during Muharram.

On July 7, the district administration, police, 111 Brigade, and Civil Defence gave final approval to a comprehensive security plan for Muharramul Haram, which begins on Sunday.

Pakistan increases flight to Iraq and Iran during Moharram

In a major development aimed at facilitating religious pilgrims, the government of Pakistan has increased weekly flights to Iran from six to fifteen and announced 107 special flights to Iraq for Arbaeen, a significant religious event observed forty days after Ashura. These measures were finalised during an important meeting of the special task force established to streamline travel for pilgrims to Iran and Iraq.

The meeting was chaired by Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and attended by Federal Ministers Sardar Muhammad Yousuf, Chaudhry Salik Hussain, and Talal Chaudhry, as well as top officials from civil aviation and other relevant departments. During the briefing by Civil Aviation Authority officials, it was revealed that in addition to the increase in Iran-bound flights, elaborate arrangements have been made to operate 107 special flights for pilgrims travelling to Iraq for Arbaeen.

The task force also reviewed long-term facilitation plans, including the introduction of a ferry service in the near future. Key security and logistics decisions were made during the session to enhance safety and convenience for pilgrims. A proposal to further increase the number of flights to Iran and Iraq was discussed. The task force also agreed to reassess the ground travel arrangements for Arbaeen following Ashura to ensure updated security protocols are in place.

Significantly, the government has decided to overhaul the pilgrim management system. From January 1, 2026, the existing “Salar System” will be completely phased out, and only registered group organisers will be authorised to send pilgrims for religious visits abroad. As of now, 1,413 applications for group organiser registration have been received and are under scrutiny. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, while addressing the meeting, emphasised that the safety and well-being of pilgrims remain the government’s top priority.

He stressed that in light of the current regional and security situation, every effort must be made to ensure pilgrims are protected from all forms of hardship or illegal exploitation. The minister directed the FIA and relevant agencies to take robust action to prevent any misuse of pilgrimage arrangements for illegal travel to Iraq.

He underscored the importance of strict enforcement and real-time screening to deter unauthorised movements. The meeting also included participation from the secretaries of the interior, religious affairs, information, and foreign ministries, along with DG FIA, DG Civil Aviation, the Additional Chief Secretary of Balochistan, IG Balochistan, Commissioner Quetta, and other officials who joined the session via Zoom.

Muharram security tightened; Karachi faces mobile, internet shutdown

As part of heightened security arrangements for the 8th of Muharram, mobile phone and internet services have been partially suspended in various parts of Karachi, causing significant inconvenience to the city’s residents on Friday.

According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the disruptions began early Friday and are expected to continue throughout the day, especially in areas designated as sensitive during the Muharram procession by law enforcement.

Some areas of the city are also experiencing reduced connectivity and mobile and internet services, which are near the high-security zone in the city.

The suspension of internet and mobile phone connectivity is part of preemptive measures aimed at securing mourning processions and religious gatherings during the holy month of Muharram-ul-Haram.

In Karachi, police and Rangers have been deployed along procession routes, and their checkpoints have been set up to monitor movement and prevent any untoward incident.

Federal Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi formally issued a notification under Article 245 of the Constitution, authorising the deployment of the Pakistan Army across all provinces, including Islamabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), and Gilgit-Baltistan. The deployment is part of a comprehensive nationwide security strategy to ensure peace during Muharram.

The notification confirmed that the armed forces would operate in coordination with provincial governments and district administrations to assist civilian law enforcement in maintaining order and safeguarding public gatherings. The number of personnel deployed will be determined based on local needs and the security landscape.

In Punjab, over 25,000 police officers have been deployed across the province, with more than 2,600 specifically assigned to maintain law and order in Lahore alone, according to a Punjab Police spokesperson.

To facilitate public observance of Ashura, the federal government has declared Saturday, July 5, and Sunday, July 6, 2025 (9th and 10th of Muharram-ul-Haram 1447 AH), as public holidays.

Similarly, the Sindh government has also issued a notification announcing holidays across the province on both dates. All government and semi-government offices, including local councils and autonomous bodies, will remain closed.

7th April will remain a public holiday in Sanatani Hindustan in respect and honour of Shaheed Imam Hussain (RA) who sacrificed his life at Karbala fighting injustice. The day continues to inspire all mankind not just Muslims but also the Sons of Raam, Jesus, Siddhartha & Gobind

Like every year , two weeks now into Muharram , in the Jumma lecture , the speaker did not mention the incident of karbala even once. Well I know there will be two more Fridays , but I know this will not change. I am not giving any fatwa on anyone but when I see that every year the month of muharrum go away , and none of the Khatibs in my local masjid avoid this , what should I conclude about these kind of people.

They will be happy to say that all companions are like stars follow anyone you will succeed , despite this being a weak or fabricated hadeeth , but in this month they can find no authentic hadeeth to speak even once on Imam Hussain.

Regardless of whether you’re a Shia or Sunni or Ahmadi, all must show respect to the tragic incident at Karbala. This is even more important given the current geopolitical context.

Such guys are the hypocrites of the highest order... without commemorating what Hazrat Imam Hussain (blessings be upon him) stood for and what was the cause of this great sacrifice, Muslim can't move forward a zilch. End of the story

I agree with you but this is the sad reality today. Love for ahle bayat is not optional , it is compulsory. And sad thing is that we claim to be sunnis , and we have stooped to such a level that we do not feel it necessary to even mention Imam Hussain AS even in the month of Muharrum !

These people do not have any idea about the status and position of ahle bayat because if anyone spoke that person was labelled as shia. That is why I am against following all these scholars , I consider them as goal keepers of there sects. The amount of lie I hear these days I feel how these so called scholars will face Allah !

sad indeed. Either we see the ummah go to one extreme and over exaggerate like with Prophet Jesus peace be upon him and Christian’s, or stop acknowledging our history and the heroic sahaba like Hussain Ibn Ali RA and even Ali Ibn Abu Talib RA altogether.

They are afraid of being labeled Shia or this and that, but as long as you are saying the truth and not deviating from the Quran and Sunnah, such labels should not scare us.

What’s scary and sad is what the Ummah did with their own hands to the beloved grandsons of Prophet Muhammad PBUH.

Yes, the shia label thing is true...but if one is true to himself then it doesn't matter to which sect he belongs...he will be guided to the Truth

Also, Allah SWT had sent Jibreel AS to Prophet Muhammad PBUH to let him know that this would happen waaay back before the actual Karbala incident when Prophet Muhammad PBUH was still alive. @Bhaijaan check this out:

`Ali (Allah be well pleased with him said), “I entered upon the Prophet (Allah bless him and grant him peace) one day and his eyes were pouring forth tears. I said, ‘Messenger of God! Has someone angered and upset you? What is the matter that your eyes weep?’ He (Allah bless him and grant him peace) replied, ‘Rather, Gibril stood with me before and informed me that Husayn would be killed by the banks of the Euphrates.'” [Ahmad, Musnad (with a sound chain as per Ahmad Shakir); Bazzar, Musnad; Abu Ya`ala, Musnad]

Yet another miracle in the life of Prophet Muhammad PBUH.

Imagine being him PBUH and seeing Hasan RA and Hussain RA as little toddlers at the time, running, playing, your own grandchildren, and every drop of blood, swear and tears you have given for the Ummah up to this point…

… And then you get told that that same Ummah will be the one to assassinate one of them (both, but this Hadith is for Hussain RA)

Rasul Ullah truly was a mercy sent to mankind, peace be upon him, and we love him, the Ahlul bayt, Ashar Ul Mubashara and all other sahaba from his life- may Allah be pleased with them all and reunite us with them all in Jannat Ul Firdaws. Ameen.

We should definitely make more of an effort to remember our heroes in the prophets and sahaba, in them those that gave their life up for the sake of Allah and died shuhada like Umar Ibn Al Khattab, Uthman Ibn Affan, Ali Ibn Abu Talib, Hassan and Hussain- may Allah be pleased with them all.

Also, let’s not forget the origin of the fasting of Muharram 10th as taught by Prophet Muhammad PBUH which is that today is the day Allah SWT split the sea for Prophet Musa PBUH and rescued him from the biggest tyrant the world has seen- Firawn. Who had been slaughtering and oppressing the men women and children of the Children of Israel senselessly.

The amount of tawakkul prophet Musa peace be upon him must have had to run straight towards the sea not knowing how the nusra of Allah will come, but having firm belief that it will come. Subhan Allah.

A serious study of the story of Karbala is essential for all Muslims. The noble family of the Prophet was butchered by cowardly leaders. His descendents were starved and beheaded, the survivors dragged in chains.

Unfortunately due to sectarian issues many so called Sunnis shy away from the incidents of Karbala and the incidents even before that where the noble family were mistreated. In fact they make excuses for the killers of the household.

Lanaat on those killers, those who enabled them, those who support them and those who bury the tragedy of Karbala to protect themselves in the modern era.

It does not matter what sect you are following , trying to dilute the incident in karbala is criminal . Its like saying that do not speak of virtues of Jesus from the Quran because it will help the Christians ! Does Jesus belong to Christians ? For Muslims believing in all prophets is matter of Iman.

My personal opinion is that there are two things which has harmed Islam the most is Caliphate becoming Kingship and sects made after the prophet.

The issue here is that if you speak about Karbala , a lot of questions will be asked . For example how yazeed came to power , despite there being early companions alive? These scholars want to hide things. If you really want to go deep into karbala , you have to go 20 years before , when khilafat E rashda ended with Imam Hassan .

We have been groomed from childhood a certain narrative , and we do think beyond that because we do not have the courage to speak against that. it has been ingrained in our brains not to question certain people or certain decisions.

Reading a hadeeth and comprehending a hadeeth are two different things.

For example Bukhari 120 says

Narrated Abu Huraira:
I have memorized two kinds of knowledge from Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) . I have propagated one of them to you and if I propagated the second, then my pharynx (throat) would be cut (i.e. killed).

Now if we look into this hadeeth and think about it , it will say that who is Abu huraira afraid of speaking what he knows? Who can cut someone ? It's the ruler , who else. Now ask your ulema who was the ruler at that time.

This is just an example , I can give so many of them. If you start looking at karbala from only yazeed , you will never understand why it happened. imam Hussain was not angry about yazeed having alcohol or doing adultery etc. Imam Hussain was against the system that brought in Yazeed.

I think rather than holding grudges if the past, the Ummah must bridge gaps and strive to move forward in the right direction of holistic growth where modern education is as important as history education and where the idea of unity in diversity is genuinely respected and adhered to.

Let people be inspired by Islam rather than just blindly convert people who don’t even go that deep and don’t contribute much value to the religion. Honestly 1000 high quality good Muslims who can preserve the Islamic values and educate others are way better than 1 billion superficial muslims.

Hussain R.A. is not the property of Shias only. He belongs to the whole Muslim world. Those who do mine only and try to bring sect and firqa stuff here, those should be ashamed...

The million dollar question is how to get rid of the sect mentality. That has penetrated into everything in Islam. Why is it that we do not want to accept the fact as it is , whenever something goes against core beliefs of our sect we try to hide it , dilute that or make a blanket statement that we should not discuss this.

If we stop discussion on certain matters , others will also say the same about their weak spots. As Educated people of this generation we need to stand up against these kind of narrative and have the guts to call spade a spade.
