Oh yes. How could Bhaijaan miss that one. Dav has a wonderful run with both Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. He became a specialist in uplifting small teams. Strange why it didnt work with Pakistan.
Personality traits and working methods. Dav was a fantastic coach to develop the basics of young, talented cricketers. Even in his 2nd stint with SRL, he developed Sanga, Mahela & Dilshan into world class players, whereas in BD, he almost hand picked Ashraful, Mash, Tamim, Shakib, Mushi, Mahmudullah from school cricket - these players are still delivering because of their initial grooming under Dav. He was head coach at NCA Bangalore as well between BD & PAK assignments, where some of his trainees were Kohli, Sharma, Dhawan, Rahne, Vijay....
But, he is extremely ruthless, autaocratic dictator type coach who demanded full control. I can recall him breaking glasses & furniture in dressing room more than once when in charge of BD (during game). He used to pick his own team (for selectors to read out names) & his way of dealing was my way or high way. But, guy was a fantastic coach - one of the best ever to develop young batsmen and his understanding of Asian cricket is probably best in business along with Gary Kristen.
These worked fantastically for cricket administration who allowed him his space, because guy was a champion coach with dedication & work ethics (he hardly left BD even during off season, working with junior players, back up teams & on individual skill development). BCB & SLCB in their early days gave Dav enough authority to implement his ideas, methods unconditionally & it worked; just like at NCA, with junior players. But, guy was failure at Lancashire, at KKR, 2nd time in SRL (by that time SLCB had their own status co), at PCB and at ZIM, when he had to work with mature (or volatile) boards/players. Also, he was past 60 in his last 2 jobs - probably more into earning pensions rather than developing a team & individual skills.
When he was appointed, I categorically wrote here in PP that Dav will be a disaster- just not the guy to work with PCB. He was like a bottle of Nitro & PCB will shake that bottle every day. Mickey has been successful in PAK because of his tolerance (thick skin probably is an insulting word to use for such a Coach), just like Bob - recently, he has digested the Donkey comment quite comfortably also. Don't even think of that with Dav - he inherited lots of the Aussie fighting (& sledging) spirits & he applied those in management as well.
