What's new

Most wickets by Asian bowlers outside Asia since 2014 - Guess the bowler?

Amir gets bashed and quite rightfully so for not taking enough wickets in the longer formats but he has a much heavier workload than that of Sharma.

Someone can correct me if I’m wrong but the last time Sharma represented India before this series was against SA in January.

What you fail to factor in is that test specialists play domestic cricket throughout the year when they are not playing international matches.

Ishant last bowled for India in January. Correct. But he bowled over 200 overs in English county in April-May. He also plays Ranji matches every season if he is not on national duty.

He was also captain of the the Delhi team for 2 seasons, which means even more workload. Amir has hardly played any FC matches since his return to international cricket.

So the difference in workload between Amir and Ishant is a lot smaller than you think.

Lakmal I feel is quite underrated.

Shami is easily best Asian pacer over last 2 seasons and stats confirm that.

Shami: 60 wickets @ 25;
Ishant: 40 wickets @ 27;
Lakmal: 57 wickets @ 31;
Aamir: 44 wickets @ 31;
Umesh: 48 wickets @ 33;

Bhuvi and Abbas have played only half the test matches above mentioned bowlers have played and hence do not qualify. Bumrah is only 4-tests old.

Do not qualify for what?

Lots of people have only played half the number of Tests of other people.

Many batsman have played only half the Tests of Sachin.

Many bowlers have played only half the Tests of Courtney Walsh.

Stats only confirm what they are actually about.

Your stats are not about the best Asian bowler.

They are about the best bowler who has played an arbitrary number of Tests.

In terms of talent and natural skills, aamir is significantly superior to Ishant. He's not the same bowler as he was 5 years back but it's a testament to his talent that he is able to play and create impact even after 5 years in wildernesses. That being said he is also a victim of the hype created around him by his fan boys.

Kohli being the agressive person he is, has been focusing on building a good fast bowling attack for India and Ishant Sharma through this new team's approach and his own hard work has become a much better bowler than he was in past.

Amir has far more depth and gravitas in his bowling but he does get tired too soon, while Ishant is quite strongly mentally and never gives up. If I have to pick one player for 2 test matches, then I will pick amir. If I have to pick one for a 5 test series, then I ll pick Ishant.

What I meant was that these 2 (BK & Abbas) need to play a lot more than what what others have done over that period. My stats were indeed about best Asian pacer!

And stats do prove its Shami! Not only has he taken most no. of wickets but also at the best average.

What I feel about Aamir is that he doesn't seem to be too bothered about tests especially when the tests so sparsely strewn in Pakistan's test calendar. He brings his 'A' game for knockout LoI games, but that's about it.

Pakistan has to play more tests, surely far more than they are playing at the moment. These 2-tests series won't give you too many test stars, certainly not many ranking points and test landmarks.

Remove minnows - WI, Ireland, Zim and Amir's average becomes 38....Ishant remains at 28.80

You made me log back in during a tight schedule for this. :asif....K bye

I guess Inzi and Arthur saw these stats. However I would have loved to see Aamir toil in the UAE heat. Can't allow him to get away when honest triers such as Wahab are asked to run into the ground.
