MS Dhoni is an ATG ODI player but is now fast becoming a burden for India

Last time a commentator showed guts and criticized few players, he got fired : Sanjay Manjrekar.
Really. its tiresome to hear english commentary. Tired of commentators falsely hyping players. Its cricket not wwe.

Sanjay didn't get fired for criticizing him, nor did he really criticize him

Sanjay got fired for attacking another fellow commentator and questioning his credential because he didn't like point they made

I remember so many were saying his world cup innings were to make sure Pakistan didn't qualify. Unfortunately, that's the only way he can play nowadays

His been a burden for a while now for someone who was so talented his powers waned so early.

Dhoni reminds me of Arsene Wenger - both were pioneering visionaries who did so much for their respective sides however both should have retired a number of years before they actually did. And both ended up souring their legacies somewhat because of this.

When you make 15 mil a year, you don't know when to sign off. The money has to stop before he does.

112 runs in 6 innings so far.

He's doing what many Pakistani cricketers do - and that is taking the place of a young cricketer and not stepping aside.

It's okay, he has retired from international cricket now. He is pretty much done but still good enough to play in IPL by all measures.

Thankfully it's just the IPL.

Taking pity on those who are criticising Mahendra Singh Dhoni for his not-so-inspiring performance in the ongoing IPL, former India wicketkeeper Syed Kirmani says age and long sabbatical from the game has impacted the stalwart’s performance.

Dhoni is in the eye of the storm for his own and Chennai Super Kings’ below par show. They are languishing at the sixth spot in the eight-team competition with two wins and five defeats.

Dhoni is yet to come up with match-wining knock and his ability as a finisher has came under the scanner.

“There is a time in the career of every player to escalate, similarly there is also a time to come down. Things change with time, I take pity on those who are criticising Dhoni for his performance,” Kirmani told PTI.

“We must not forget that Dhoni had been one of the best finishers of the game at one point of time. He is returning to cricket after a long sabbatical and it has impacted Mahi’s (Dhoni) performance in this IPL season.”

Dhoni took a break from cricket after India’s semifinal exit from the ODI World Cup last year in July and in August this year, the World Cup-winning India captain announced his retirement from international cricket, just before the IPL.

In IPL 2020, Dhoni, 39, has failed to force the pace in chases as he had done many a times in the past. He has so far managed just 112 runs from seven innings with unbeaten 47 being the highest.

“At this age people don’t have that much agility left, compared to youngsters. Besides, a player has lots of tension regarding his future endeavours. It’s natural and obvious and we must accept it,” Kirmani said.

Yes, indians have always been a WC winning team, and without dhoni they would have won 15 and 19 wc.

So because we don't win world cups, we should make our team the retirement home for cricketers. And then you have the audacity to talk about sachins selfishness. Hypocrisy

Tendulkar went on playing for his 100 hundred. It was befitting that the hundred he so coveted ended up losing india the match. That will always be tendulkar's legacy, that he played for himself.

Dhoni, despite being less talented, gave india a world cup. Despite being a mediocre batsman, dhoni didn't choke in finals, while tendulkar was a known choker in finals.

tendulkar was struggling for form right through that innings. Amd imagine thinkig not being able to defend 290 against Bangladesh is sachins fault. Any other team would have defended 290 against Bangladesh. Here your beloved dhoni doesn't get blamed for not being able to defend?

His legacy because you say so? He is in the list of almost every world XI made by evrery current or past player. He is in every record books, every praise. Whenever cricket is mentioned his name invariably comes. Commentarors, legends, all respect him. But his legacy because one poster said so? Sure

Sachin has one of the best records in all finals and better than Dhoni so now you are straight up lying too. Let me guess, you are going to change the goalposts on this soon

Also if sachin had not played the match winning knock in 2011 semi finals, india would have gone home with the same lota they did in 1992, 1996, 2015 and 2019. There was no one to carry the team in 2015 and 2019 amd dhoni didn't win anything

Imagine blaming sachin for being selfish and overstaying while defending Dhoni. Even Ponting over stayed way more than sachin.

Yeah you are arguing in good faith all right

I have not defended dhoni. have called him a mediocre batsman ( and when he was supposedly at his peak). If he over stayed then the whiners should target their outrage against the selectors.

sachin, a far more superior batsman, easily among the top 5 of his generation, had too many loser moments. I would call it manhoosiyat, kind of panauti. Just a look at his face and you knew he was going to get out cheaply and let the country down. Btw, not his fault that the whole country expected a lot from him, but this expectation was too heavy for him. His best test knock was a losing side, which was not his fault, but too many failures are attached with his memory. with dhoni, despite his mediocre talent, he still won 3 icc tournaments as a captain, which defines his legacy.

WC winning teams don't have all eleven firing, but they win because they are a champion team. only loser teams and their loser fans blame one player for not winning the WC.

Yes, indians have always been a WC winning team, and without dhoni they would have won 15 and 19 wc.

We had a real chance of winning 2019. We were also the second best team in 2015. So yes technically we could have won. Dhoni cost us a WC by picking his wastrel buddies like Karthik and jhadav. Dhoni himself was useless and past his prime. anyway what's done is done.

Of course we could have won 2019. We topped the ladder for God sake.

We also din't even pick our best middle order and were without Dhawan. Would have been a carnage otherwise.

Chennai Super Kings have been a powerhouse in the Indian Premier League over the years, having won the title on three occasions and made it to the final on five more instances. They are the only team to have qualified for the play-offs in every season of the IPL that they have been a part of.

But things have been tough this season as CSK are near the bottom of the points table, having won just two out of seven matches. Their peerless record is under threat and captain MS Dhoni and his team is under a lot of stress and pressure.

Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Chennai Super Kings - Live Score

One of CSK’s biggest strength has been its loyal fan base and it seems the fans are right behind their ‘Thala’ and team. To lift the mood of the players, CSK shared photographs of a super fan on their Twitter handle.

This fan from Tamil Nadu’s Arangur has painted his house in CSK colours and also has the CSK logo painted on one of the exterior walls. He calls his house ‘Home of Dhoni Fan’.

“Super Fan Gopi Krishnan and his family in Arangur, Tamil Nadu call their residence Home of Dhoni Fan and rightly so. A super duper tribute that fills our hearts with #yellove. #WhistlePodu #WhistleFromHome,” CSK wrote on Twitter along with the photographs.

CSK take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in a crucial clash on Tuesday and all eyes will be on how MS Dhoni marshals his troops.

CSK’s batting has been very suspect this season with Dhoni himself in patchy form after making a comeback to competitive cricket in over a year.

But the CSK players will be happy to know that their loyal fan base has full faith in them and that can spur them on to change their destiny in this season of the Indian Premier League.

I am surprised the fans did not build a Temple and pray to Dhoni. Its Tamilnadu after all.

Another failure today - 3 off 5 balls batting at number 5.

136 runs in 8 innings at a strike rate of 132.

Kris Srikkanth, the former India captain and selection committee chief, has slammed Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s “ridiculous” calls for Chennai Super Kings in the ongoing IPL and asked what “spark” did he see in the under-performing Kedar Jadhav.

Srikkanth was referring to Dhoni’s remark that the youngsters in the Chennai Super Kings squad did not show the spark needed to challenge the seniors and break into the playing XI.

“I will never accept what Dhoni is saying about this process,” Srikkanth told ‘Star Sports Tamil.

“This process he keeps talking about is meaningless. You keep talking about process, process... but the process of selection itself is wrong. “What is Dhoni’s deal? He says (N) Jagadeesan (uncapped wicketkeeper-batsman) doesn’t have spark, but does ‘scooter’ Jadhav have that spark? This is ridiculous. I will not accept this answer today. All this talk of process, and Chennai’s tournament itself is over,” he added.

Jagadeesan has played just one match so far

CSK currently lie bottom of the heap and succumbed to a seven-wicket loss against Rajasthan Royals here on Monday for their seventh defeat in the 13th edition of the lucrative league.

Srikkanth, who was the team mentor and brand ambassador of CSK in the inaugural edition of the IPL, also questioned Piyush Chawla’s selection.

“Dhoni now says that since the pressure is off, he’ll give the youngsters a chance. Come on, yaar. I don’t understand this rubbish about the process at all.

“Karn Sharma at least took wickets. Chawla simply goes through the motions of bowling, coming on when the game is already lost. There is no doubt Dhoni is great, but I cannot agree with him or accept this.” Dhoni’s remarks, after the game, were met with severe criticism on the social media.

“Fair enough, this season we weren’t really there,” Dhoni said at the presentation ceremony.

“Also the youngsters, we didn’t see the spark to push the guys. But what this result has done is give those youngsters a chance in the rest of the tournament.

“Maybe going forward we bring them in and they play without pressure.”

“ Could this be your last game in yellow ever?": Morrison

Dhoni: "Definitely not!"..

Not surprising - he's the Javed Miandad type, needs to be crowbared out rather than expecting him to leave on his own terms.

Sunil Gavaskar Suggests MS Dhoni Should Play Domestic Cricket Before Next IPL Season.

He is playing the next IPL. It has been confirmed. I hope him and Fleming select a good squad now.

Except MS Dhoni, all legends of Indian cricket retired after playing Test matches: Pakistan's Kamran Akmal

Out-of-favour Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal pointed out that except former Team India captain MS Dhoni, all legends of Indian cricket retired after playing Test matches.

Out-of-favour Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal feels that two-time 50-over World Cup winners India have not compromised on their red-ball cricket. The former Pakistani-wicket keeper-batsman also gave a special mention to legendary cricketer and former Indian skipper MS Dhoni to promote India’s vision of building a competitive team and roping in world-class players into the international setup.

Akmal, who has had a bitter-sweet career for the Green Army on in the international circuit praised Indian selectors and upper echelons of the Board of Control for Cricket in India for creating a robust talent identification system in India. Akmal also praised Dhoni for taking a bold step and calling time on his illustrious Test career before bowing out of white-ball cricket.

Regarded as India's most successful captain, Dhoni retired from Test cricket in 2014. The two-time World Cup-winning captain bid farewell to international cricket in 2020 - 6 years after his Test retirement. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Akmal said that except Dhoni, all legends of Indian cricket retired after playing Test matches.

“India have not compromised on their red-ball cricket. At school level, India have two-day, three-day cricket. Today, they have a pool of 50 players because Indian cricket has given a lot of importance to Test cricket," Akmal said.

Among all the legends of Indian cricket, except MS Dhoni, no one has retired after playing white-ball cricket. All the others played a Test match as their last one. That gives us a great idea of their vision: how to build a team, how to bring in players into the Indian set-up,” the 39-year-old added.

Talking about Akmal's recent remarks about Indian legends, former captains Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, and Anil Kumble all bid farewell to their legendary international careers after playing Test matches. Former skipper Dhoni on the other hand played his final international match in the 2019 World Cup semi-final against New Zealand.

I think it’s safe to say Dhoni was a remarkable captain for Indian cricket esp in LOI.

This is the lowest India has been LOI since 2012 Aane do?After that series we won CT 2013.. so hoping we can rebuild again.

Dhoni should make a comeback, use him as a specialist captain, bit like how Vaughan was used towards end of his career

No, I think we should move forward.. Dhoni groomed Kohli and Rohit, it’s unfortunate this happened but no going back..

What happened to Rohit as he missed the series and who will be the next captain? are you going for one captain across all forms?

Rohit in LOIs, test is open for now.. let’s see who gets it, although reports suggest it will be Rohit.

Dhoni was doing more of mind-game with opposition in LOIs, that's why he was so successful! He was always in the mind and very calculative which opposition couldn't guess (or even his own teammates! He was making the best use of whatever players/resources he had!) He was some what similar to Mohan Lal/George Kutty of Dhrushyam Movie!

Dhoni had to retire only because he was finished as a batsman (or rather couldn't reach to his own standards which he set!) He was still good in wicket-keeping and captaincy or ghost captaincy whatever!

But he couldn't fetch more results in tests because it was more to do with technique, skills and intensity (where Kohli succeeded)

He is an ATG LOI captain and arguably one of the best ever in the said format.

I think he is an ATG when it comes to ODI format. He has won 2007 World T20, 2011 ODI World Cup, and 2013 CT.

He probably shouldn't have played in 2019 World Cup. He was a liability in that tournament.

May be he became a burden only when he got old which is natural but there are many players who are not even in their 30s yet and are already looking like a burden on this team. :inti

The blame of semi final loss was only put on Dhoni by fans here, even though both Pant and Pandya were equally responsible alongwith the top order in that match. :inti
