Mudassar Nazar not to seek extension as Director – Academies

Lahore, 8 December 2019:

Former Test cricketer Mudassar Nazar has confirmed he will not be seeking an extension to his contract when it expires on 31 May 2020.

Mudassar joined the PCB as Director – Academies on 1 June 2016 on a three-year contract, which was extended to another one year earlier this year.

Mudassar Nazar said: “It has been an exciting and satisfying time with the PCB as Director – Academies. When I had joined from the ICC Academy in Dubai in June 2016, I was clear in my mind that it will be a three-year period, but I extended to another year after being requested and convinced by my colleagues.

“However, it is now time for me to return to the United Kingdom, spend time with my family and explore other opportunities.

“I can reflect on my tenure at the National Cricket Academy with satisfaction as we have been able to identify and produce a number of quality cricketers, some of whom have already represented Pakistan while others are knocking on the doorsteps of international cricket.

“We took the game to every nook and corner of the country through aggressive and proactive academy programmes and our U13, U16 and U19 talent hunt, coaching and event programmes provided opportunities to budding youngsters to express themselves.

“I still have some time remaining in my contract, which I look forward to. This will also provide the PCB with a chance to find my replacement so that there is a smooth transition.

“I would like to thank all my colleagues, friends and peers for their support, backing and guidance. It has been a collective achievement and I am delighted I will leave the NCA with my head high.”

PCB Chief Executive Wasim Khan said: “We all respect Mudassar’s decision.

“Mudassar has been an integral part of the PCB, looking after one of the most critical areas, which deals with players’ and coaches’ development. As Director – Academies, Mudassar’s contributions and efforts are acknowledged and we thank him for giving his very best.

“Mudassar has always kept Pakistan cricket at the forefront of everything. The PCB has benefitted from Mudassar’s experience and knowledge in other areas. Change is inevitable and we will move forward in a different direction.

“On behalf of myself and everyone at PCB we thank him for his service and wish him well”.

The PCB will start the process of finding Mudassar’s replacement in due course.

Could anyone list out all the youngsters groomed/mentored thru the academy while he was in charge ?...... a lot of the former players have not been complimentary ontheir youtube channels about the academies these past few months

Hope he stays. Thanks to him Pak yet again started producing exciting fast bowling talents. He also said we should see some batting talent in 2-3 years with the reforms at the u-16 u-17 level.

Rashid Latif has been so critical of NCA, says even Afghanistan have a better set up than us He is right seeing the track record of doctors creating a mess of players injury, no real player development.

Looks like an overhaul incoming at NCA. shah_1

Overhaul meant resignation or fast exit. Nazar still going to cling onto director post till next year.

Haroon Rasheed is still there, a lot of these characters have only destroyed Pakistan cricket.

Academy concept was introduced by Gen. Tauqir Zia in early 2000s and players trained from there few of them were able to break into Pakistan team. After he left, it went into disarray. The most wasteful project
as players again only came from departmental cricket. Just providing food and training facilities, instead of preparing new players. NCA under Mudassar Nazar only became Nothing Cricket Academy. Now he has had a long joyride of 10+ years and ate many funds like a parasite alongwith Shakeel Sheikh, Haroon Rasheed and Subhan Ahmed, he has made enough to retire in UK. Pretty sure he'll be replaced by another mafia and continue to enjoy NCA paycheck.

Is Latif any better? All our ex-cricketers are money hungry leeches

He's developed a lot of the talent coming through and that has come through over the years.

Never been short of a word or two for the likes of Umar Akmal too.

The likes of Naseem Shah and Hasnain have spent time working with Mudassar at the NCA. In fact Hasnain's recent changes in his run-up have been done after working with Mudassar.

A key man at the PCB and one of the guys who will be missed.

Pakistani cricketers who have spent more time abroad, have developed more professionalism and their work ethics and the way they talk about others even when criticizing them do in a better way than just picking up fights as our "home gowns" do. Mudassar, Mushi, Azhar belong to first category and people like Rashid, Basit, Razzaq, Shoaib Akhtar belong to the later.

If he is good then what is Waseem Khan upto?

To destroy Pakistan cricket

I don't understand your question.

He is either sacked or resigned due to some reason. You don't issue press release so early before contract ending date unless there is something behind the scene we don't know

If he is good as you say then it is a loss for Pakistan cricket. All the blame should go to Wasim Khan for this

He left for personal reasons, not everything is malicious.

Apparently Andy Flower is being lined up to replace him. Wasim Khan's connections are now bearing fruit
