Multan Sultan (126/3) defeat Karachi Kings (124/5) by 7 wickets to win Match 1 of PSL 7

So sad to see quality of players... Foreign players name are so unknown... Look at KK? Except shakeel and may be babar, they have zero appeal to watch out for... Sultan is better but foreign players quality is not so attractive there also.. National t20 has far better sides than KK really.. Shame on the way we are portraying and selling our so called best event...

Friday’s Fixture – Quetta Gladiators v Peshawar Zalmi

Karachi, 27 January 2022: Multan Sultans began their title defence with a dominating seven-wicket win over Karachi Kings in the HBL Pakistan Super League 2022 opener thanks to Imran Tahir’s brilliant three for 16 and Mohammad Rizwan’s breezy 52 not out off 47.

Imran’s crucial wickets of Sharjeel Khan in his first spell, and of Mohammad Nabi and Tom Lammonby in one over restricted Karachi to 124, which Multan overhauled with 10 balls spare.

Karachi’s Sharjeel hammered 43 off 31, clubbing three sixes and as many fours, in the 66-run opening stand with Babar Azam.

Multan opener Shan Masood scored 26 off 18 to provide a solid start with a partnership worth 38 runs, before Rizwan and Sohaib Maqsood (30 off 31) added 63 for the second wicket.

Quotes:

Imran Tahir – It is a special feeling. I cannot put it in words. I am very happy I delivered what the team demanded of me and I hope my team and I continue to do what we did today. It is always good to be back in Pakistan. I am from here and my family is here. Hopefully, I will see all of my lovely friends after the tournament. We had a lovely crowd today, so I want to thank them for coming out to support us and the game of cricket, which is really nice to see in this sad time we are living in. I am looking forward to the next three weeks.

Scores in brief:

Karachi Kings 124-5, 20 overs (Sharjeel Khan 43, Joe Clarke 26, Babar Azam 23; Imran Tahir 3-16)

Multan Sultans 126-3, 18.2 overs, (Mohammad Rizwan 52 not out, Sohaib Maqsood 30, Shan Masood 26; Mohammad Nabi 2-17)

Shocking captaincy by Babar!

What was he holding Nabi back for? Everyone knows Rizwan is more comfortable against pace, with his legside heavy game. Why wouldn't you start with Nabi and put some pressure on from the first ball?

The 5'5 height medium pacers are exactly what Rizwan would want to face.

people are acting like sharjeel blasted a quick fire 50 or 100, he made 40 odd of 30 odd balls at a strike rate of 138, which is just 4 runs more than rizwan strike rate. Yet one is labeled test match player and one is labeled t20 best opener ever for pak :))

bonus point for anyone who knows sharjeels international t20 strike rate vs rizwan or anyone who can name a meaningful game where sharjeel has made a contribution on the international stage:))

Exactly it's actually quite funny.

Regarding the captaincy battle today - Rizwan made the braver and better decisions, especially regarding bowling changes and which bowlers to use and when.

So, you’re telling me you don’t once feel that Babar and Rizwan were dragging their innings and were holding team back during the WT20?

Batting for 15 overs and scoring at a run a ball whilst we have players like Fakhar, Asif, Malik and Hafeez waiting to come in. Two selfish players that don’t take enough risks for the team.

The difference between Sharjeel and the two golden boys are that one plays for the team and the other play for their 50’s.

People also call Sharjeel a hack, as if it’s a bad thing in t20’s, I’d rather have a hack than someone who tuktuks after the PP overs.

Can you tell me the strike rates of the other batesman baring Warner and Fakhar for that match?

Rizwan also made good fielding placements when Sharjeel was on strike and also having khushdil bowl to Babar azam.

I dont know why Babar has to have a hack in T20. He's a good enough batsman to play proper cricketing shots. Just looks ugly when he's playing T20.
