What's new

Multan Sultans (163/2) beat Lahore Qalandars (135/9) by 28 runs

Superb Dahani.

Just when it was needed.

Great pace too.

So in the end Rizwan played a good inning to set up a good total for the pitch. Surprised to see much better performance from Dhani today. Looks like everyone croticising him for ho OTT celebrations and lack of focua on the game has made him serious again toward his actual role.

Both can still play but change the batting order.

Rizwan
Umar
Fakhar
Babar

If the team is 100-2 after 12 then another hitter can come in place of Babar basically Babars influence should be limited as he’s even slower than Rizwan and currently struggling to hit boundaries.

Umar Akmal will go well in what these days they have so called legend tournaments. He will get in well with Sehwag, Lara, Tendulkar, Akhtar because his fitness level is pretty close to those guys who are close to touching 50s and hardly play any cricket.

good match for Pak fans...all international calibre players (existing and upcoming) have done well regardless of the results...

Dhani will bowl the last over. Will only be fitting for him to take the glory after changing the game with his wickets

No he didn’t if all batsmen played at his strike rate the team would’ve made about 120 other batsmen did the main job.

If Tim David isn’t saving them, the bowlers are

Rizwan is one lucky captain

Rizwan is such a good captain,he didnot panic qith Fakhar's onslaught and made the change required in good time. Often when Rizwan had been bringing in changes in bowling or fielding it had been bringing him wickets.

What if his role was to anchor the innings and allow everyone else to play around him. If fakhar had similar support maybe lq would have gotten closer

Rilie Rossouw was the match winner 65 of 42 was the crucial innings which won the match for Multan.

Yeah should be selected on luck alone...nothing to do with how hard a worker he is and a great thinker of the game...

Kohli is a great player Rizwan is in good form long way to go before he’s anywhere near the best wrong comparison.

I did not compare kohli and rizwan. My point was WC win is not the only criteria to rate someone as a player

Yes...he has been saved by someone in every match and therefore has the best winning record as a PSL kuptaan...should be selected on luck alone...

No point bro. These same fans want sharjeel over Babar. You can’t reason with then.

Will look forward of seeing Rizwan play the same innings against Australia. I am sure he will win us many games since there will be a batsmen or bowler who will save him due to his luck.

Each batsman has their role. Im sure you understand that. Rilee is in the team for his hitting.

This is so depressing

Why? All current Pakistan players (new and upcoming) did well...would personally open with Mo Riz and Fakhar and replace Hassan Ali with Dahani against the Aussies in the T20 matches next month...

Salt
Fakhar
Kamran
Hafeez
Brook
Sohail
Samit
Weise

Shafique needs to sit out mate

It’s depressing because I am supporting Lahore. I’m not supporting Pakistan right now

Yes but for Pakistan both Babar and Rizwan are doing the anchor and if Fakhar doesn’t fire there is little hope at the World Cup that’s what I’m saying.

Domestic is different Rizwan has other batsmen supporting him Babar hasn't looks ok when team mates support looks bad when they don’t as we saw with Karachi.

The main thing is both don’t score quickly enough in the first 10 overs for Pakistan to win the World Cup.

Ok I can get that...don't have any preference myself except having a good contest and seeing Pak international players do well...

Tactically MS were a few levels above LQ and this has always been a problem for LQ across all of the PSL tournaments.

Poor Inninjgs from Mohammad Rizwan. He does have flaws to his T20 game, struggles on the offside big time.

Defending champions Multan Sultans booked a place in the final of the HBL Pakistan Super League 2022 when they defeated Lahore Qalandars by 28 runs in front of a full and enthusiastic Gaddafi Stadium crowd on Wednesday.

Put into bat, Rilee Rossouw and Mohammad Rizwan stroked unbeaten half-centuries to help Multan Sultans collect 163 for two in 20 overs after they were 65 for two at the halfway stage. Lahore Qalandars were cruising nicely at 102 for three in the 14th over before they suffered a collapse and ultimately finished at 135 for nine.

While Sultans qualified for Sunday’s final, Lahore Qalandars have another opportunity to reach their second title match in three years when they will play the winner of Peshawar Zalmi-Islamabad United on Friday.

Rossouw struck seven fours and a six in his 42-ball 65 not out, while Mohammad Rizwan scored a 51-ball 53 not out with three fours. Rizwan added 47 runs for the second wicket with Aamer Azmat (33), while he put on 113 runs for the unfinished third wicket with Rossouw.

For Lahore Qalandars, Mohammad Hafeez and Samit Patel took a wicket each.

In turn, Lahore Qalandars lost their way following the departure of Harry Brook (13) as they lost six wickets for 33 in just over six overs to finish at 135 for nine.

Fakhar Zaman scored an entertaining 63 off 45 balls with two fours and four sixes, including three successive sixes off Imran Tahir. He added 54 runs for the fourth wicket with Harry Brook.

Shahnawaz Dahani was the star for Multan Sultans with the ball. He grabbed the crucial wickets of Brook (13), Phil Salt (1) and Shaheen Shah Afridi (1) to finish with figures three of 19.

David Willey bagged two for 23, while Asif Afridi and Khushdil Shah bagged a wicket each.

Scores in brief:

Multan Sultans 163-2, 20 overs (Rilee Rossouw 65 not out, Mohammad Rizwan 53 not out, Aamer Azmat 33)

Lahore Qalandars 135-9, 20 overs (Fakhar Zaman 63, Kamran Ghulam 20; Shahnawaz Dahani 3-19, David Willey 2-23)

Shaheen Shah Afridi "Haris Rauf and I conceded too many runs in the last 4 overs. We should not have conceded 40 or so runs at that time. We gave away 10 or 11 runs too many"

Shaheen Shah Afridi "Haris Rauf and I conceded too many runs in the last 4 overs. We should not have conceded 40 or so runs at that time. We gave away 10 or 11 runs too many"

Another bad sign for Pakistan at the World Cup as Afridi and Rauf are our 2 main pacers a lack of control against the best batsmen and too many runs will be conceded.

The Qalandars Bowling doesn't deserve to be blamed. It's their batting (apart from Fakhar) that failed.

Mohammad Rizwan "I had a feeling inside me that a total of 165 to 170 on this pitch will be a good target and a winning total"

Mohammad Rizwan "Every captain gets angry sometimes. I do get angry but nobody notices. I get angry when the plan isn't followed and it hurts the team"

Rizwan assessed the pitch very well and batted throw the Innings . Hopefully it's these two teams in the final.

The formula for victory so far in this PSL is to bowl cutters, slower deliveries and spin in the second innings.

Humility for what?

Rizwan is a poor T20 opener.

The fact that they keep winning, he keeps scoring, and yet you keep hammering away in the match threads calling him rubbish. Not credible.

Pakistan can win 5 T20 world cups in a row with the Babar+Rizwan combo and I still won’t change my argument. This argument will only die with my demise.

I mean in Australian conditions the team aren't likely to perform well anyway. For now Rauf is one of the best options we have and he will certainly recieve phainty. It just says it all about our current fast bowling options right now - aside from Shaheen the cupboard is bare.

Even if that was to happen we still must to whatever we can to perform to an optimum level selecting the right players for different positions and giving it our best shot not a meek surrender.

In T20s a game can be won even against the best team if the players are performing well and are playing with confidence and no fear.

Pakistan don't have a combo better then them your Sharjeel, Azam etc will not cut it at top level the only case is Fakhar opening and one of the two dropping down the order but even then I don't think this will massively change our fortunes for better or worse so why fix when it ain't broken

I think that Kamran Ghulam run out changed the game for LQ. Fakhar was in terrific form and did what he has been doing but, someone like Ghulam who I think is a temperamentally pretty strong player was needed for more overs at the crease in a pressure game with batting not as easy for some of the hitters LQ had. If had a longer partnership with Fakhar things could have been different or atleast much closer then they end up to be.

For MS, Dahani proved to be the match turner.

You seem so proud of the greatest opener of all time scoring 53 off 51

I am proud. Seeing how the entire LQ team struggled on the pitch his innings was great. Roussew very clearly stated that it was the a perfect anchor innings by Rizwan which allowed him to go hard at the other end, his words exactly to Erin Holland. I'll take a cricketers opinion seriously over yours any day of the week, month or year.

Before Fakhar was allowed hitting space he was 31 off 33 balls give or take.
