Multan Sultans Thread

So from the logo it seems the team kit will be mixture of black, green and yellow.

Must say that is an awesome logo!

Picking Tom Moody as coach was a good decision.

THIS IS HUGE

Tom Moody is a dream coach

Wish we had him for Pakistan national team

they have sort of a partnership with sydney sixers who have same kit

Need some variety in colors. Multan, Peshawar and Lahore have same color of trousers too i.e. black. Need some variety there too.

"Hi this is Tom Moody, I am looking forward to being involved with Multan Sultans and partnering with my old mate , Wasim Akram as the head mentor and Director of Cricket for the team

Great things ahead for a new side in the PSL; I am looking forward to working with all the local talent and pooling together a great team for success in the future"

Tom Moody's video message played today.

The trousers are pretty boring... could have done with some green or yellow on the sides.

I really like their logo, but if I am honest I dislike the kit. The dotted pattern looks odd, and there are far too many colours.

Multan have done well to sign Tom Moody. Looks like the owners are keen to make MS real contenders in PSL 3. Can't wait.

Wasim Akram stars as Multan Sultans unveil logo in Karachi

Cricketing greats converged in Karachi to add excitement to the third edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) as its sixth franchise — Multan Sultans — cruised into PSL circuit in style, unveiling its kit and logo on Friday in a ceremony.

The Sultan of Swing, Wasim Akram, will serve as the director of cricket operations of the new franchise, which aims to light up the cricket circuit in Pakistan with more untapped talent.

Akram, who has been an integral part of various T20 cricket franchises around the world, including past PSL champions Islamabad United, is excited on joining the Sultans and hopes to produce players "capable of competing and excelling."

Speaking about the success of PSL, Akram said: “The third season of PSL will be even more enthralling as it will feature Multan Sultans as the sixth team, and will be a treat for the crowd which will now get to see more home games after the successful return of international cricket in the country.”

The franchise also announced former Australian star Tom Moody as the head coach of the team. Moody brings with him experience of coaching in a varied set of roles in franchise T20 cricket, county cricket and the Sri Lankan cricket team, which he led to the final of the 2007 World Cup.

“I believe in Tom we have found the ideal man for this role. He possesses years of coaching experience with various franchises, which enables him to play a crucial role in nurturing young talent and player development,” Director of Multan Sultans, Asher Schon, said regarding Moody’s appointment.

It was earlier reported that "the two W's" of cricket — Wasim and Waqar — will unite under the Sultans banner as Waqar would serve as the team's head coach.

“It is great to see everyone welcoming Multan Sultans; the love and enthusiasm is surreal and makes us feel very proud on making the right choice of team. Our logo symbolises power and visually positions our determination to lead the way, be it on-field or off-field,” Schon said.

Multan Sultans enter the circuit at a time when cricket in Pakistan is experiencing a high, with a memorable Champions Trophy victory followed by the arrival of a World XI team in what was seen as a major step towards ending the long drought of international cricket in the country.

Dubai-based Schon Group acquired the Multan franchise for an eight year contract worth $41.6 million in a bid held earlier this year, surpassing Karachi Kings as the most expensive franchise.

The Logo actually looks really good!

I like the logo but the kit is so-so. TBH it sort of looks like the Jamaica Tallawah kit, same colour scheme.

KARACHI: Multan, the city of saints as they called it, is the latest inductee in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), as they entered the tournament with the Multan Sultans.

The franchise was sold for $5.2 million per year and became the tournaments’ most expensive team ahead of Karachi Kings.

The franchise will be making its debut in the tournament’s third edition, and even though they will be the new kids on the block, they will have an advantage over other franchises having learnt from the others in the first two editions.

While any franchises would aim for success from the word go, Asher Schon has other things in mind.

“Multan is an emerging brand that resonates with both the local and international markets,” said Schon while talking to The Express Tribune. “Our plan is bigger than just success in PSL. We are determined to extend our reach to the people of Pakistan, focus on domestic cricket on the later stages and bring to fruition plans to identify new talent.”

Multan hired former Pakistan captain and legendary left-arm pacer Wasim Akram as the operations director, and Schon believes he has a big role to play in the franchise’s long term plans. “In the long run, we are ideally looking at setting up a cricket academy under the supervision of Akram,” he said. “But in the short run, we are focused on developing and grooming players and preparing them to be successful cricketers both for Multan and Pakistan.”

Player development is a key aspect of any franchises’ success in the PSL, and Schon described that Multan have numerous steps in sight. “When we talk about player development, there are a lot of areas that need to be considered,” he said. “Our strategy is to get the right mentor and coach and empower them to develop our players. That is why our main emphasis is on getting the best international and local cricketers to join us as players, trainers and mentors.”

Schon further revealed that the trials would initially be held in Multan but the franchise is working on arrangements to hold trials across the country. “Our starting point for the trials would be Multan initially and across the country later. We have a plan in motion so it would be a little too early to comment on that, but yes, it is on the map,” he said.

After the first two editions, franchises faced criticism for having retired players as captains or are in their late 30’s but Schon believes that the future of cricket is in the hands of the youngsters and they should be given more opportunities.

“We strongly believe that promoting young talent is always a better idea as it motivates fresh talent to excel,” he said. “That is why having a young captain is top of our priority list and will more likely bring out hidden gems.”

While other franchises have expanded their involvement in different leagues all over the world, but Schon intends to keep Multan’s focus solely on the PSL. “As of now, all our focus is on PSL as we are a new team. With a fresh team and a new approach, we want to keep PSL as our primary focus but getting involved in foreign T20 leagues is an option that can be considered later,” he said.

Re- posting as it is well worth a read.

This passage is particularly interesting:

I am liking Multan's approach more and more- can't wait.

I think this will be my PSL team to support, love Moody, akram isnt half bad either.

Will pretty much depend on team combination though. If they make intelligent picks, and give youngsters a chance unlike oldies XI cough cough, then the team willl go a long way.

Go Multan warriors!

Off to a good start.

Ahmed Bashir, fast bowler from Vehari. Dude, I literally mention him in every thread. :))

There used to be a YouTube video of Bashir bowling but can't find it now. Do you have any footage?

Also I remember discussing Muhammad Umar with you (tape bowl bowler- can't find the thread now). Do you still rate him?

This upcoming PSL offers an excellent opportunity for LQ to achieve new heights, they have been coming fifth in the last two seasons. Now they can aim for the sixth position :))

#lohr lohr ai

No, that was the only one I knew of. Maybe Abdullah719 has some.

Height is the only problem with Umar. Otherwise, he has everything.

Same, don't know of another vid. Thought it might be on Dailymotion but nope...

Hopefully there will be some videos available from the upcoming season of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.

Thanks anyway. Here's hoping.

Last season there was a D/N match every round and it was telecast IIRC.

This year that doesn't seem to be the case. Footage won't be easy to come across.

Great minds think alike- I was literally just about to ask you.

That's really annoying- Sethi's "management" skills strike again. :najam

No doubt I will now be told it is in fact the responsibility of a sub-sub-committee to arrange this tournament and therefore Sethi is absolved of all responsibility. :))

Former Australian cricketer and Multan Sultans Head Coach Tom Moody has said that he would come to Pakistan if his team reaches the final stages of Pakistan Super League's (PSL) third edition.

"Yes, I'll be joining the team for the games in Pakistan," he said while talking to DawnNews. "Hopefully we will qualify for the finals and get the opportunity to play at both venues — Karachi and Lahore."

When asked whether Pakistani fans will get to see international stars in action in Pakistan, he said: "I think the trust level of the players to travel to Pakistan is going to improve over time. More and more players are getting comfortable with the idea [of playing in Pakistan] and I think it will only increase over time."

"The draft had a lot of high-quality players, not only local but also international, so all the teams had access to some star quality players,” said Moody, who coaches the Sunrisers Hyderabad in Indian Premier League (IPL) and Rangpur Riders in Bangladesh Premier League.

Hopeful that his team will reach the finals, Moody said: "I think we have a competitive side that has got a good balance between experienced international players and some exciting young talent, so I think we will be competitive throughout the tournament."

"I think the team that manages to adjust and gets its balance early on in the tournament will obviously find themselves ahead at the end of the tournament," said Moody.

On working for Sultans with the legendary Wasim Akram, he said: "I am obviously very excited about reuniting with Wasim Akram. We have been friends for a really long time and to have his experience with the group is going to be invaluable."

The third edition of PSL is set to begin in February 2018.

Forgot their squad, need to see the option. As far I can recall, they have one gap - Bravo, who is a foreign pick. If they can bring the pacer or pace all-rounder from Sup. quota, then they can drop Bravo and play Mukhtar as opener. However, new ball attack in PSL will be far better than NT20 - if he doesn't improve defense & shot selection, 13 (7), might end up as his range.
