A WOMAN was arrested on Friday for allegedly poisoning the food served at a programme held at Mahad village in Khalapur, resulting in the death of five persons, including four children below the age of 13. Police said the woman, Pragya alias Jyoti Suresh Survase (24), wanted to take revenge on her in-laws, who are relatives of the family that hosted the programme on Monday.

Over 100 people who had eaten at the housewarming hosted by villager Subhash Mane suffered from food poisoning. While Kalyani Shingude (7), Pragati Shinde (11) and Rishikesh Shinde (12) died before they could be admitted to the hospital, Vijay Shinde (11) and Gopinath Nakure (53) died on Thursday.

“The accused is the daughter-in-law of Subhash Mane’s brother-in-law. She has alleged that both Mane and Survase families used to ill-treat her and pass remarks on her complexion and her failed first marriage. We suspect she poisoned the food in an act of revenge,” said a senior officer in Khalapur. The police said Survase mixed a bottle of poison, usually used to kill snakes, with the food that was served to over 120 people on Monday.

“We started speaking to the people who had cooked and served the food. When we questioned Survase, she seemed jittery and broke down immediately… During interrogation, she said that while her in-laws had already eaten by the time she could poison the food, she still went on to poison the food and served it to people at the programme,” the officer said. S P Anil Paraskar said Survase has confessed to the crime.

“She even showed us the spot where she disposed the packet in which the bottle of poison was brought to the house,” he added.[/QUOTE]

Of course what she did taking the lives of people including children is a despicable act.

But

Why are Indians and Pakistani's obsessed with fair skin? If someone is dark, black , so what? These people allowed white nations to conquer them with a very very small army. To this day many in both nations see a white person superiour.

Why oh why?

Killed kids just because she was mocked for her complexion? This evil woman doesn't deserve to live.

Agree she should get what she deserves. This is obvious.

I posted this to discuss the wider issue of hatred of dark skin in your nation and neighbouring nations. Why is dark skinned not liked? Is bullying of those with such complexions normal in India?

It is not just India and Pakistan, skin lightening/whitening is big in Brazil and West Africa.

I think it could be something innate about disliking dark skin, I have noticed that in big Pakistani nuclear families and extended families (khandan), that the darkest members are literally the black sheep, thru no fault of their own though. Maybe they are not appreciated as much as their fairer-skinned siblings and cousins. Maybe.

I went to, not necessarily performed Umrah in 2003, the only people around the mosque with a hand chopped off were dark-skinned Arabs.

The Arabs mentioned in my previous posts were begging, sorry for the derail.

Back on topic. Maybe she just wanted them to be really sick, ruin the in-laws night and misjudged the doses.

What I dont understand is there are millions of dark skinned people in India and Pakistan, it's normal. Is it because they see white skinned nations as being superiour or they genuinely believe to be pretty or handsome you have to be fair skinned?

Dark skin is associated with poor people, having to work out in the skin, lighter skin could be seen as being upwardly mobile, I don't think it is anything to do with aping their colonial rulers.

This sounds like justifying or sympathising with the evil woman. Preference for lighter skin is a minor issue. How many people go on killing others because they were mocked for their color? This issue is this woman, nothing else.

I cant prevent you from thinking what you like but it's not if you bothered to read what I wrote.

You say preference for lighter skin is a minor issue in India? Why is the fair skin cream market in India worth over £200million? Do you think a lady with a lighter skin is more beautiful than one with darker skin?

I don't think he is trying to justify/sympathise, he more or less said that she deserves what coming her way. Plenty of health dangers involved in the constant use of skin lightening creams, from easily bruised skin all the way to cancer. Though it not limited to just India.

If indians liked to have a tan, would that be an issue? If indians like red over yellow, is that an issue?

If you had to buy fruits from two sellers, and you prefer someone who shares ethnicity or religion with you, is that an issue?

I prefer lighter skin on females and dark skin on males. How is that a problem for anyone?

No problem, I really didn't have a clue but you have made it clear Thanks :inti
