Update :

General (Retd) Pervez Musharaff wants to be head of MQM (Pakistan). He has assured MQM Pakistan that He will merge PSP back into MQM (Pakistan).

Izhar ul Hassan of MQM (Pakistan) has met Musharraf sahib in Dubai and has asked him to lead.

Karachiites how do you feel about it ?

Will it happen ?

Has Altaf Hussain sahib lost his grip over MQM followers & workers ?

I hope Musharraf can kick ppp's back and ask for fair share for karachi! Musharraf leading MQM and PSP is not only good for karachi but for whole pakistan.

Musharraf should retire and stay out of politics, there's so much more to do in life.

It's surprising to me because in my opinion, the muhajirs have probably the most "Pakistaniyat" among all the ethnicities of Pakistan and are the most patriotic and passionate of the lot.

The MQM probably messes it up for them.:altaf

Former president and chief of All Pakistan Muslim League Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf has expressed his wish to become the joint president of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP).

According to Express News, MQM leader Khawaja Izhar held a meeting with Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf where the latter told the former that MQM is not left with any prominent personality in the wake of the minus one formula and that the party needs one to foster its roots in the masses, presenting himself as a suitable personality for the purpose.

Musharraf said that if he were to become the leader of MQM it would greatly benefit the party since he was popular among the masses and could utilise this platform to make major contributions. During the meeting, the former president also expressed his idea of a merger between PSP and MQM and offered to take responsibility for getting PSP to accept MQM in its fold. According to reports, supporters of Musharraf tried to contact PSP chief Mustafa Kamal but he could not be reached.

PSP leaders, however, told Express News reporters, “Whosoever wants to join PSP can do so, however, neither do we need any Quaid-e-Tehreek nor do we need to merge with any party.”

Mustafa Kamal gifting PSP to Mush? can't see it happening although MQM Pakistan really need a new Quaid at the moment...

There are multiple news reports on different channels. They cannot be shared here due to the watermarks. You can search it on google. Furthermore Ahmed Raza Kasuri has confirmed it aswell and Musharaff hasn't denied it uptil now. Its been 4 days.

If Mush joins MQM as president, they will get every possible seat in Karachi plus all this non sense talk that Muhajirs wants to break Pakisatn will end at once. Best possible outcome for everyone involved.

Mush has lot of good repu in Karachi plus he is urdu speaking plus he has good repu with army and establishment.

I agree this can bring a positive change in our politics.

Haven't heard it on any news channels or talk shows yet . Got a link ?

PSP is gaining popularity in the city as it is, they shouldn't go with this misadventure of aligning themselves with MQM. It will only hurt their own progress.

I wish PTI had also focused on the city, it was theirs for the taking, but like PPP and PML-N, PTI also doesn't give a rat's behind about the biggest city and economic engine of Pakistan.

Before being allowed to set foot into politics, he should be punished for the NRO.

He is already in politics from last 5 years with his part APML. I agree with you NRO was one of his biggest sin.

It would be a bad thing for PTI aswell as Pakistan.

Karachi elections will be highly manipulated and once again there will be direct interference in Pakistan Politics by Establishment.

So once again there won't be pure politics.

MQM is not a national level political party. So if Altaf hussain does not mend his negativities than Farooq Sattar can be made president of MQM.

Mustafa Kamal did great for Khi as Mayor but than He was (free). Now he is no more (free/independent). He is planted by those who should have No role in Politics.

I do not see Nawaz or Zardari sahibaan giving space to Musharaff sahib. They won't want him to head either Mqm pakistan, london or Psp etc. But the big question is how will they stop E from causing it to happen. Furthermore since in our Country accountability of Sharif's & Zardari never happened so E won't allow Sharif's to do accountability of Musharaff sahib.

This is quite a " KHICRHEE "

Quite ugly how Mush is playing the "Muhajir" card.

Ask most "Muhajir" and they will tell you that they refer to themselves as Urdu speaking. Muhajir means someone who is on a temporary sojourn from his homeland which is not really the case for the Urdu speaking people. MQM has been using the "Muhajir" card for three decades and seemingly decent person like Mush is also using the same card.

Mush did a lot for Karachi ..... He has a very good repu in Karachi and has lot of respect among MQM and its leaders. Most people will accept him as a leader and it will mean end of PTI and PPP and any other party in Karachi.

Bhai jaan I used to live in Karachi while Mush was the prez. The only reason he has some semblance of support is because he let Mustafa Kamal have a free hand who transformed the city in 5 short years. Other than that Mush does not have a lot of support there.

This is a win-win for all involved, if true.

MQM (or whatever they're calling the "non-London" group) gets to have a former COAS as leader, with the patriotic credentials that come with being COAS, something that cannot be said of Altaf.

The "establishment" gets to have someone close to it keeping an eye on the recalcitrant MQM, and you don't get to be more establishment than an ex-COAS.

Musharraf gets to have a party to lead, instead of having to create one from scratch.

And everyone gets to keep the MQM vote in tact, and not have it eroded by the right-wing of various shades and hues encroaching on it. This is especially true if the rebels in PSP are on-board.

Early impression: this is great for MQM and bad for PTI.

Although PTI Karachi leadership isn't active and top leadership including IK is ignoring them from years but i will say this move can actually help them in case PSP don't join MQM. This move will divide the vote bank and that's what PTI need otherwise they stand no chance against huge MQM vote bank in Karachi.

It will be interesting to see how this develops. Never a dull moment in Pakistan politics.

This is MQM's chance of becoming a major player though.

Agree and i am also in favor of this move. MQM and those traitor slogans against them will finally come to an end. They will have a far better leader thn that clown sitting in london and a chance for them to finally become national party i can't see Mush playing Muhajir card.

Totally agree with this. Would be a huge bonus for MQM if Musharraf does indeed lead MQM. It might heal the wounds Altaf has inflicted on MQM.

I just hope this actually happens. Finally someone will ACTUALLY look after Karachi and its people.

Apart from that, this might be the chance for MQM to challenge PPP in interior Sindh.

Bhai nobody can challenge PPP in interior Sindh. Slaves will remain slaves. PPP have been ruling for 40 years and as someone who has traveled through interior Sindh I can personally attest to the fact that those regions are the poorest and most undeveloped regions of Pakistan.

If they haven't stopped voting for "Bhutto" in 40 years, they won't stop now.

Udaasi ki baat hai ke Sindhi khud tou dhobay hi hum Karachi walon ko bhi lay dhobay..

This is unfortunately very true.

Allah hidayat day humari qaum ko

That would be excellent news, he will sweep Karachi and break back of PPP in Sindh, an alliance with PTI and PMLQ and they could probably form gov.

Interesting development but it won't make much of a dent on the existing political setup. MQM and/or PSP won't suddenly become major contenders by Musharraf's inclusion. That said, this move does confirm the rumors that PSP is another establishment party that was envisioned and created in GHQ and Abpara. Ideally, if Mush steps foot on Pakistani soil he should be arrested and made an example of but realistically, that's just not going to happen. Disgraceful to see them using the 'Jag muhajir jag' slogan though the irony of their slogan being in Punjabi(teri pug nu lag gai aag) is clearly lost on these idiots, not to mention the lack of creativity, copying PML-N's "jag punjabi jag" slogan wholesale. Keep in mind that it's hard for me to be neutral on this since one of the involved parties is an ex Army Chief and in my book, anything short of dragging the army through the streets and holding them accountable for turning our country into an international joke is not enough.

Somewhere, in a dusty office deep inside the bowels of the Establishment division, there's a PR exec with a sense of humor.

Or, more realistically, the khaki PR machine was hard at work coming up with a successor to their multi platinum hit song "dushman kay bachon ko sikhana hay" and they delegated the task of coming up with a slogan for ISI.. sorry, PSP to some lazy new intern.

I wouldn't call the guy lazy. That banner literally oozes irony. It is like an NFP parody, or the Nasir Jamshed twitter account. Our people will fall for anything.

Say what you will about the PSP but it is gaining popularity day by day..

There was a void in Karachi. Urdu speaking people of Karachi are generally educated and would never vote for the dynastic and utterly corrupt PPP. The MQM was the go to party in Karachi even though they had a history of violence atleast they focused their energies on the uplift of the city and tried to solve it problems. However, with the recent statements by Altaf they have lost a major chunk of their supporters. Some segments of the Karachi population vote for ANP and Jammat-e-Islami but that hardly makes an impact on the electoral seats. PTI is able to garner one or two seats max. PML-N is non-existent and rightfully so, we do not vote for elected dictators who only focus on their home province.

This massive void needs to be filled and PSP seems like the one party that has positioned itself correctly to get the majority seats from the city.
