Ambulance being called for Rahim....

I hope he is fine.. looked real nasty..

Never imagined a hit to the helmet could be this devastating...

Thought today's helmets were good enough to protect the head from such head on blows...

Poor guy. I'm watching in Queenstown and everything just stood still. Too soon after Phillip Hughes.

The very slow ambulance ride is what you'd normally associate with a spinal injury.

Commentators say hospital is right next to the ground- 300 metres. You can see it on the cameras. One small piece of luck for him.

If Sabbir gets them to safety he will have played an atg Bangladeshi knock here- whether it's 50, 60, 70 or a a hundred. Huge job for a rookie batsman with so many seniors injured i would be really unjust for Bangladesh to lose this way. Hope he can do it!

The news is good and he might even bat again apparently!

As soon as Mushfiq came to bat with injured hand!! Nzl's pacers were targeting his body only!! So there plan worked!! Congratulations!!!!
Hope he will be ok!!!

As soon as he came on to bat there was a plan by NZ to exploit Mushfiqur's existing hand injury by peppering him with short balls and targeting his body. Not that I am saying that this was the result they wanted since they were all visibly concerned after Mushfiqur got hit. Not great sportsmanship but NZ within their rights to bowl however they want.

NZ should pepper him again with the short ball if he comes back to bat again.

Their pacers hit twice Tamim on fall of through!! Not that Tamim was intended to Run!! Nor Tamim was before the stumps but without hitting the stumps once!! They are to Hit Tamim twice!!!

It is very unfortunate that Mushfiq got hit on the head, but NZ are well within their rights to exploit each and every opportunity as they deem fit as long as they are doing so within the rules of the game. They are there to win the match for their nation, not to do charity for the opposition team.

This. Even when a player is injured, these Bengali fans find a way to make it as hard as possible for others to have sympathy or support. Neil Wagner got hit on the head three times in first NZ innings. No NZ fans complained. This is the difference between normal and Bengali fans no offense

Then there was nothing wrong in bodyline series or underarm ball bowled by chapel or Mankading!!! Because that were within thr rules!!!!

Comparing apples and oranges. Bowling at a batsman's body is not comparable to those situations. Learn to win matches fair and square. International cricket is not charity bazaar.

So because mushfiq decided to play with injury, nz shud go easy on him?? Stop blaming other people when it's no ones fault. This is not elementary school

Lol at some bengali fans, they expect to be feeded by spoon because their injured players are playing for their nation

You're joking, right? Wagner was hit 4 times in the helmet in one over, he even went down after the second, it didn't stop your bowlers from peppering him with bouncers. In fact , good on them.

Mushfiqur Rahim: Bangladesh captain hit by bouncer and taken to hospital

Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim was taken to hospital after being struck on the head by a bouncer during the final day of the first Test against New Zealand in Wellington.

Mushfiqur, 28, had scored 13 in the second innings when he was hit on the helmet by a Tim Southee delivery.

Batsman Tamim Iqbal told reporters his team-mate was "fine" and had been taken away by ambulance "as a precaution".

Mushfiqur scored 159 in the tourists' first innings at the Basin Reserve.

They were 114-5, with a lead of 170 over the Black Caps, when the incident happened.

Looks like they took him away as a precautionary thing.

I was surprised by his reaction as the blow was flush on the helmet. I guess he was already rattled with busted up fingers.

Disgusting. Wonder where the spirit of the game is? They should have bowled him underarm lollies and should've played with only 2 fielders.
Seriously, if Mushfiq was injured the chap should've sat back in the dug out rather than trying to be a hero on the field. Its as simple.

Boohooo.

This is how sports are played. That was a very smart tactic by new zealand and thats how you play. Just because one gets injured doesnt mean you just bowling him underarm volleys

Excellent planning and execution by the Kiwis. Kohli shld take a cue and adopt the same strategy against Mushi. He is a dud against short pitch bowling.

Hope all is well with him now. That didn't look good.

Add Ahmed Shehzad to that list too.

Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim is unlikely to play in the second test against New Zealand in Christchurch on Friday, denting the tourists' hopes of avoiding defeat in the two-test series.

New Zealand will overtake Pakistan and move to fifth in the world test team rankings should they complete a 2-0 test sweep following their dramatic victory earlier this week in Wellington's first test.

Mushfiqur was concussed after being hit on the head by a short-pitched delivery and rushed to hospital on Monday, but Bangladesh officials said Wednesday it was a hairline thumb fracture that would keep him sidelined.

"His finger injury is worse," team physiotherapist Dean Conway told reporters. "The hairline crack that has been found is new. He will need to give more time for this injury."

There was no confirmation that Mushfiqur would sit out, but he has been advised by doctors not to rush back after being hit on the back of the helmet by a Tim Southee bouncer.

Conway said that the Bangladesh skipper "may need three to four weeks to return."

His injury, which came with memories still fresh of Australian Phil Hughes being killed in Sydney just over two years ago, has again put the spotlight on the use of the short-pitched delivery as a fast-bowling tactic.

'BOUNCER FEARS'

Opinion is divided with two former New Zealand internationals, Warren Lees and Lance Cairns, joining the debate Wednesday on opposite sides.

Former wicketkeeper Lees said the use of the bouncer had gone too far and umpires needed to get tough.

"It is not just because the batsman was carted off to hospital. It has been concerning me for some time," Lees told the New Zealand Herald.

"The umpires are a wee bit lenient. The guy at square leg has to be more switched on. It is sort of getting out of control."

Cairns, who suffered a fractured skull when felled by Pakistan quick bowler Wasim Akram in 1985, said short-pitched deliveries were part of a bowler's armoury.

"When you think about... the number of deaths caused by this delivery, Hughes' tragic ending is the only one I've ever heard of," he told Fairfax Media.

"Do you hear people wanting to ban the use of cars, motorbikes, bikes because of fatalities? No you don't. But lessons must be learnt from these tragedies, and this is why they've got tougher on the design of the helmet."

While Bangladesh posted several batting records in the first test, including the unwelcome title of scoring the highest first innings total of 595 in a losing effort, they have had little success in their first overseas tour in more than two years.

Captain Kane Williamson guided the side home in Wellington with an undefeated 104.

His 15th century put him one behind Ross Taylor who in turn is one behind the New Zealand record of 17 held by the late Martin Crowe.

Coach Mike Hesson said the race between Williamson and Taylor to overtake Crowe can only be good for New Zealand.

"I hope they not only go past (Crowe's) record but they keep going toe-for-toe for a while." he said.

New Zealand swept Bangladesh 3-0 in both the preceding one-day and Twenty20 series
