Making a mountain out of a mole hill. Read the comments. As if Muslims have no bad press, idiots like him make things worse for other Muslims. If you find it not halal, move on another restaurant. Does he know the pizza cutter is not halal and cuts other pizzas too? I know many vegetarians stay away from places which also serve meat because they know very well there is a possibility of cross contamination of meat. So why go to a pizza parlor (that too to Little Ceasars which serves $5 pizza) and expect them to respect your religious beliefs? And sue them for $100million? my foot.

DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) -- A Muslim man who says Little Caesars served him a pizza with pepperoni made with pork has filed a lawsuit seeking $100 million.

The Detroit Free Press reports (http://on.freep.com/2qn8Vxm ) the lawsuit filed Thursday in Wayne County Circuit Court says the pizza sold in the Detroit suburb of Dearborn was labeled "halal," meaning it shouldn't contain pork and would be prepared in a way that follows Islamic law.

A Little Caesars statement says the chain "cherishes our customers from all religions and cultures" and believes the lawsuit is "without merit."

The lawsuit seeks class-action status. It says Mohamad Bazzi twice ordered "halal" pizza containing pork.

His attorney, Majed Moughni, says the lawsuit aims to deter others from accidentally ordering food containing pork from the restaurant. Dearborn has a large Muslim population.

As it is too much bad press for the brown people, if that's not enough we have more people making news for such futile issues.

how is this making a mountain out of a mole hill.

Some muslims take halal diet very seriously, (even i do aswell). The guy rightly sued and rightly won.

This is not about bad muslim press, what the guy did was not wrong.

If you want to sell halal, follow the rules, or else don't sell halal.

So why sell something with the label 'Halal' if you don't know what's Halal?

Got to give the guy props, he's learning the American way. Not only suing like a true yank, but going for the American dream of $100 million.

If you take halal seriously, then you wouldn't go to a restaurant, that also sells pork. The very fact you went to a restaurant that also serves pork suggests you don't take halal seriously.

lol. He didn't order pork but halal as described.

Hope he wins big.

Good luck to him. Hopefully he will use the money open up Halal meat restaurant.

? do you understand wha tyou are saying?

so what they sell pork and other meat..

as long as halal meat is being sold i will eat from there.

If they sell pork good for them why should i care.

What nonsense are you talking about ??

Me, my family and lot of other Muslims I know go to Mcdonalds. They sell haram stuff according to my beliefs but I will always order vegetarian burger, fries, milkshake etc that are entirely acceptable.

Now it's entirely up to the individual if he wanted to sue or not.

But stop trying to twist this into something else. Don't advertise Halal if you are not going to serve halal foods and mislead people.

ok. There are 2 Muslims in my group (both are Pakistanis). When we go out for lunch, they excuse themselves if the restaurant serves pork. To accommodate them, we always go to Shahiba (or Shabihah ?) restaurants that don't serve pork or to Indian restaurants. So I just assumed Muslims don't eat at such restaurants.

Good. False advertising(?) should be condemned and any Tom, Dick & Harry can put a little sticker saying 'halal' on anything without it being halal. Just more ways of people buying.

The lawsuit, filed in Wayne County Circuit Court, says the first incident happened March 20. Bazzi and his wife were midway through eating a pizza he had brought home from the shop when they realized it had pork pepperoni.

Bazzi knew it was pork because he used to work in a pizza place and knows the different types of pepperoni, Moughni said.

So Bazzi knew that it was Pork and still ate it. Looks like an ambulance chaser story...

To be fair, this is how you integrate into American society. You sue everything and anything. :yk

He has a legitimate case. It's false advertising.

BUT he's not going to get $100 million. He won't even get a penny. At most they'll ask them to stop and that's the end of that.

In South Africa we only buy food from restaurants that display a 'halaal' certificate

Is there any more American term than ambulance chaser? Mashallah this conscientious citizen has truly integrated with the culture of his new home. :14:

Turns out he ordered a pizza with Pepperoni on it then waited a couple of days and then launched his lawsuit.

Should go to jail.

That's really not how it works here in the US.

Companies are not allowed to perform false advertising for a number of reasons. Firstly is the obvious one-to do so is essentially theft.
The deeper reason is a breach of contract. By offering a "halal pepperoni pizza" you essentially tell the consumer "I am offering a pizza that uses pepperoni that is made of something other than pork". If the customer agrees to purchase that, they buy it, contract is fulfilled. By offering a pizza with pork pepperoni, the company is breaking their contractual offer for a pizza that uses non-pork pepperoni".
And it's not waiting a couple of days-it takes time to talk to a lawyer and make a determination if you have a case.

My mother is a religous woman and takes halal seriously.

She would never eat from a restaurant that serves pork even if it has halal food due to the fact that most of these places cook the halal meat on the same stove they cooked the bacon and pepperoni.

Also as OP mentioned same cutters and same mixing boards so you are definitely ingesting pork if there is no extra care taken at these places, which usually is the case unless they are personally muslim.

There was no false advertising, the guy is trying to blackmail the pizza shop.

He had ordered a halal pizza, came into the store, canceled that order and asked for a Hot and Ready instead,” said attorney J. Michael Huget, who represents Little Caesars. “That’s what he ordered.”

Huget said the company’s investigation into the May 24 incident concluded that Mohamad Bazzi, a 32-year-old Dearborn man, looked at his pizza at the restaurant and then changed his order to a Hot and Ready pizza, which contains pork pepperoni.

A conversation with a store employee, which Bazzi secretly recorded as he later confronted the worker, supports the company’s stance, Huget said.

This is like saying, if you take vegetarian seriously, you should not go to a shop that sells non veg products as well!
