What's new

"My favourite batsman is Rohit Sharma. I want to become one of Pakistan's best openers" : Ahsan Ali

Sharjeel’s stature seems to get bigger every year. If you hadn’t seen him play, you would think he was a combination of Warner and Rohit.

He can force the pace of the game atleast on flat wickets. A must up the order in white ball cricket. He's atleast better than the likes of fakhar, afhan etc.

Thing on PP is that ones who aren't in the team always look better than the ones playing. Usually it happens post defeats but now happening even when team is winning.

It's hard to understand how and why this guy was picked. Stats are bad, doesn't have much good technically, no brain with those shot selections, is not that young.

Australia tests had Musa Khan as the rediculous selection and Bangla series now has Ahsan Ali.

Maybe there is some sifarish making rounds for every series.

Not entirely untrue, but then useful for someone to pull out a stat that how many teams have chased 300+ in quarter finals, semi finals, and finals of world cup, champions trophy, Asia cup or any other multiple country championships?

pull the stats and lets take a look

My issue is with his age. If he was a teenager it wouldn’t be a problem. However, there has to be something seriously wrong to see a 26 year old with such terrible numbers, especially when he has been playing domestic cricket since 2013.

Stats can be misleading if you view them in the wrong context, but I am afraid I don’t see any context here to support his selection.

You got it right again :sarf2

Brother he is a good batsman. He can play shots all around the ground. But his issue is fitness. He runs out of breath after scoring 25 runs. He needs to lose atleast 15kg.

Any videos of his batting? I would like to see. I watched NZ vs PAk just to watch Haider Ali but he disappointed me. He looked unprepared to play at highest level and tried to slog everything over mid wicket.

This guy has no business in Pro cricket!

Thread is one year old.

He shouldn't be playing pro cricket with such an attitude. PCB worked so hard with him, he again looks like melon. He is not good enough talent anyway. Pakistan cap is cheap these days when you have such club level players make debut

Lahore, 12 November 2021: Ahsan Ali smashed his highest first-class score and was unbeaten on 284 at the close of day three of the pink ball affair between Sindh and Central Punjab at the Gaddafi Stadium. This is Ahsan’s first score of 100-plus for Sindh.

The right-handed opener was on 88 when play resumed today and continued to score at a brisk rate. He has, to date, smashed 35 fours and three sixes from the 364 balls he has faced.

The dead and flat pitches are going to bump up averages of average batsmen. The problem is when these batsmen tour SENA they will be found out.PCB needs to hire English curator if Pakistani curators can make decent pitches.

They need drop in pitches like Ramiz stated these pitches are not good for batters or bowlers.

Pitches have been thoroughly poor this entire season.

The batsmen with visible technical flaws are succeeding.

No reverse swing. Barely any spin.

Pathetic pitches made.

Highlights of his triple century:

No he should not be selected the pitches have been awful the curators need to be fined or sacked not good enough

QeA Round 6, Day1:

In reply, Khurram Manzoor and Ahsan took the Balochistan bowlers to the cleaners with a dashing 199-run first-wicket stand. Khurram hit 12 fours and three sixes in his 94 off 129 balls before falling to spinner Jalat Khan.

Ahsan who has already scored a triple-century this season, posted the fifth century of his first-class career. The 27-year-old was unbeaten on 119 off 131 balls (19 fours) when stumps were drawn for the day. Ahsan will resume his innings tomorrow in company of Omair Bin Yousuf who is batting on 15, Sindh have already accumulated a 133-run first innings lead.

Meanwhile, the blazing Khurram-Ahsan partnership has already ensured at least one batting point for Sindh.

Balochistan vs Sindh – UBL Sports Complex, Karachi

Balochistan 96 all out, 31.5 overs (Imran Butt 33; Abrar Ahmed 5-23, Sohail Khan 4-26)

Sindh 229 for 1, 50 overs (Ahsan Ali 119 not out, Khurram Manzoor 94; Jalat Khan 1-49)

He seems to be in brilliant form in the QeA for Sindh, another century today in the match against Balochistan at Karachi.

QeA Round 6, Day 2:

Sindh Opener Ahsan Ali who scored a century on Wednesday, fell six runs short of his double-century. The right-hander hit 28 fours in his 194 off 220 balls

Even though it's four-day cricket, the way he's been batting over the last month, I won't be surprised to see him given a chance in international white ball cricket again.

Now I am even more worried.

I thought this 26 year old youngster would have score a few triple-hundreds in his last few innings so that we could get excited over his untapped potential.

🙄 yes he hit a triple ton & a 194..

Not many players hit triple tons in Pakistani domestic scene.. not like Mamoon favourite Rajni trophy where every Tom Dick & Harry has a triple ton to their name lol

Shouldn't be anywhere near the national team with that kind of fitness.

Also, he looks very loose in technique and not compact enough. Highly doubt he can succeed at the international level

Sehwagesque Shots

Ahsan looked a beast in the previous televised game. He looks a little over weight but less than the tub of lard that he was when he played PSL

It'd be quite embarrassing for the PCB if no PSL side gives Ahsan a chance after the domestic season he's had.

He has been associated with QG on and off since the beginning. A couple of good innings also led him to Pakistan t20 debut.

He was selected to keep the Karachi Lobby quite, at that time Sarfraz wasn't in the squad
Ahsan didn't have any performances to back his call up

50 for Ahsan Ali in Quetta's tournament opener vs Zalmi

Given the nature of the wicket, most openers taking there chances. Good to see batsmen aren’t struggling to start with.

Do hope the balance between bat and ball gets better.

If Pakistan employed a squad rotation strategy then Ahsan Ali could have been properly tested at the international level. He could be a good back up player.

if he can become a reliable #4 or #5 - it will be great

no point in having him rotate in opening with bara, rizwan and fakhar as top 3

plus imam ul haq in odis

Can't take anything away from his performances. He has been brilliant for QG this season. But man another player with terrible fitness.

What I don't get is how a professional cricketer in this day and age and be so careless about how physically fit he is. And I know some people here love to talk about how fitness does not make that big of a difference to pErfoRmAncEs but it does. A fit cricketer will always be more effective than an unfit one whether its on the field or when it comes to running between the wickets.

And beyond that, it just shows how serious a person is towards their profession. Is making alot of money and representing your country not enough motivation for these guys? If I: a single guy with no job can find the motivation to go to gym everyday, why can't these guys?

He’s been playing well. Has got a good average in the PSL.

Don’t know how much he can challenge for spot in Pakistan XI tho.
