Usman Salahuddin speaking on TV during the high performance camp:

"We are focusing a lot on fitness during this high performance camp. Diet affects your fitness and you can't forget it once you leave the camp. Here we aren't having roti, rice, oily foods or sweets, we are having more protein and my focus is on continuing in that manner. I can already feel the improvement in my fitness and fielding. We are professionals and this is what we need to do to compete against other top teams"

"At the start it was difficult. We said to the trainers that it's very hard but as we're getting accustomed to it, it's becoming a lot easier. We don't find it difficult at all and are ennjoying it, some players are even doing extra. We wake up 5.30 AM and we work very hard at the camp."

"Younis and Misbah bhai have done a lot for Pakistan. Like Younis Khan has scored 10,000 runs for Pakistan, my goal is also to score 10,000 runs for Pakistan. He scored 30+ hundreds for Pakistan and I want to emulate him. For 8-9 years I've been waiting to make a spot in the middle order for myself in the Pakistan team but they played so well that I never got a chance. If I do get a chance now, I will look to make it count. I am established at the domestic level and I am hopeful I will perform well in Test cricket, given the opportunity."

"International cricket definitely brings pressure specially for a new player. But the team environment that I was a part of during WI tour is very encouraging and uplifting. Youngsters are given a lot of confidence and the new youngsters are performing very well due to that. International cricket has good standards so confidence is what you need which Mickey Arthur and the management has really done very well with."

"Domestic cricket pitches are not of a very good standard. They're seaming tracks with difficult conditions. International pitches have even bounce and are a little flatter. If I am selected for the next series which is in UAE then I hope I will perform well."

Great goal to set. He is 26, needs to play really well in order to reach those heights set my Younis Khan.

Definitely, has an opportunity to play and solidify his position in the middle order.

Given his age and the limited Number of tests we play this is impossible even if Usman is were Bradman

Pretty lofty goal considering he hasn't even played a Test match yet...

Still wish him the best of luck!

If the reports are true - YK was born in 1975 so he made his debut when he was 25 and then had a 15 year career.

Usman is 26 so it is not beyond the realms of possibility for him to have a similar type of career to YK. However . The big questions are that can he maintain the form, fitness and appetite for big runs that YK did? Can he sustain the same type of consistency?

cant fault someone for ambition but major LOLZ

This being the key, if he can maintain then I have no doubt that he will go on and get that 10K run mark.

He'll be almost 27 by the time Pakistan play their next test, I feel Pakistan play more now then they did when YK was playing. Let us hope that this kid does have an appeitite for runs like the great man himself did.

Yes agree - keep in mind YK did not play any Tests in 2008 and only played one test series in 2010.

Instead of caring for 10k runs i would prefer winning matches for my team & record will set itself!

Nothing wrong with him setting himself goals, as long as he is willing to put in the hard work.

Good to hear the message on diet, fielding and fitness is being drilled in to domestic players. Hopefully it spreads across all levels of domestic cricket.

I'd bump Asad Shafiq to 5 (series v SRL should be his last chance) and introduce Usman Salahuddin at 6.

Seems like a solid batsman who has found consistency in recent domestic seasons. Hopefully he can make the step up to internationals - the Sri Lanka series in UAE is a good place to start with relatively weak opposition bowling and flat pitches.
